This should put the Wii's kiddie image to rest - behold the Wii Dildo.

I shudder to think what the claw one is used for....
The new Metroid is out. Anyone picked it up?

I decided very last minute I was interested in new Metroid, so my copy hasn't arrived yet. I'm hoping it turns up tomorrow.

It actually took until today to arrive. Anyway...
Hmmm... ah...
Thing is I'll be enjoying it and then something will come a long to really annoy me. Well presented game and the story is interesting. Surprisingly good voice work. The game controls great in the default view with Samus auto targeting the nearest enermy. She won't run off ledges either so you can just focus on run-n-gun. Morph ball also works as expected.
The first-person view is what annoys me. Now it works fine enough but there's no reason for it to be there . Now I'd happily not use it but I have to because it's the only way to use missiles. I did know that already but it's still annoying.
First major annoyance came with the first boss. I was stuck in first person-mode as he was busy swiping at me - after a few swipes it was game over. Clearly I couldn't kill him before he finished me off but I couldn't avoid his attacks. I checked the instructions to see how you dodge out of the way and after a few more lost lives I managed it. To be honest I'm not sure what I did because it doesn't seem to match what it says to do. Luckily I only had to do it once and then I was allowed to be in third person view - a view that is easier to avoid attacks in.
It was annoying but I figured I'd realise what I was doing wrong later. Fun gaming followed until I encountered burrowing rolling creatures. Why? Because the game insists I must kill them using a "Lethal Strike". There are a number of special moves in the game and this one requires you to push the d-pad towards the enemy when they've fallen over whilst charging. Needless complication. There were some other instances where I had to do something like jump on a creature then fire but these were easier and if it wasn't possible they could be dispatched by simply shooting them a lot - with these things it seems like the special move is the only way.
Can't get past them at the moment. Hopefully I will soon but I hope there aren't too many annoying moments like this in the game.

It seems like Team Ninja added in these new features just for the sake of having something reasonably new. I haven't played it yet, but from what I understand; it's a mixed bag. I'd have been happy with another side-scroller. Games like Shadow Complex have shown that these kinds of games can be done well without resorting to such new gimmicks.
I picked up SNK Arcade Classics today. I'm a big fan of those old SNK/NEO-GEO numbers, so I look forward to running through Fatal Fury/Metal Slug etc. Only £7 so can't complain.

Good purchase. The SNK compilations are quite hard to find. I have the Metal Slug, KOF and Samurai Shodown ones too but I like some of the other games on Arcade Classics - as well as having a Metal Slug with classic controller support.

Metal Slug Anthology is immense. Not sure how you're meant to complete the games without using a continue though! Normally on a play through of one of the games it says I've used 30-50!!

I think it's mostly 'cause these games are designed for the arcade, so in turn they're designed to soak up your money. Some parts are impossible to get through without dying.
So looking forward to having a blast on Samurai Shodown.

Thanks for the info Dave. I was wavering on whether to get Metroid now or wait until Christmas. I've got plenty of other things to be getting on with.
212 stars in SMG2. Almost there! I watched a youtube video of someone doing the final star, and I'm not really looking forward to it.

Yeah I tend to use a lot of lives on Metal Slug games. Lot of fun though.
So I went back to Other M and got past the troublesome rolling creatures with ease. A bit more play and I'm now annoyed by another bit. Gahhh. Looking like a decent game ruined by some bad design decisions.

ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH... Star 242... Got to the last three boomerang throwing hammer bros of the level, killed two, knocked the third over and then got hit by his returning boomerang.

Got a bit distracted so had a few days without Metroid but have been playing again today. I should say that (having had to use it again a few times) I have got the hang of this lethal blow thing, so it's not causing any me trouble - though I maintain it's a pointless inclusion.
Anyway I've been enjoying the game but am now stuck on a boss. Like the first one I encountered this requires dodging whilst in first person mode - only this time you have to keep doing it. This shouldn't be a problem as mysteriously I can now do this without any trouble. However the point you have to shoot missiles at moves fast so you can't fire at will and often have to settle for just dodging. Fair enough, but this means it takes time to defeat and I'm finding I'm losing the battle because I'm getting cramp in my hand. I'm hoping I'm missing something obvious that will end things quicker but... Gah!

I'm at 241 now, but haven't unlocked the final star. I didn't realise I'd have to grind out to 9,999 star bits to unlock it. I'm at 7,500ish but don't know if I can be arsed. When I was playing through the first run, I could get to the section with the disappearing platforms without getting hit quite easily, but I don't know if I could cope after that. And the hammer brothers section is just insane. Seems like it's best just to avoid all but the last three.

John - Best place for star bit grinding I found was Star 2 on Melty Monster Galaxy (A Stroll Down Rolling Lane). You can easily rack up 999 star bits by just dieing at the end of each run as you should pick up the extra life early on.
Once you hit 999 star bits you'll have to get the star though as it maxes out.

Yeah I already figured that. But I've already died 3 thousands times on that level from the first two times I played it, and didn't feel like doing it again just get some star bits. It's a little crazy that I only got 75% of the way there after playing every galaxy in the game again 2 or 3 times, and was actively collecting them.

The Wii just doesn't do anything for me. I have a Gamecube and most of the games on that console didn't appeal to me at all. The same goes for the Wii. I've got no problem with the graphics but all of the games I've seen advertised are the same old 'bad port with motion controls tacked on' game. Furthermore, the adverts for all Wii games feature the Redknapps or those Geordie fellas to try and sell the games to me. All we get are B-list celebs that claim games to be 'family friendly' and that just annoys me. If they are family friendly why don't you actually show us real families instead of celebs and actors getting us to buy a game first and then find out afterwards that its just a bad game! At least XBox game adverts show good games. They know that their games aren't family orientated as Wii but do they care. Nope, they don't!
Another thing that irks me about the Nintendo consoles is that they always release extra peripherals for the console at a massive price tag and then, when sales start to slip they release another game that requires a different peripheral and then when sales slip even more they release another Mario game. I've known people before who have been compelled to buy every different peripheral as soon as they have come out because 'they have to play a certain game, and this new Wii-gunamobob is the latest must-have shooter' even though you could shoot with just the Wii remote and it does exactly the same things as 'basic setup'.

Also - Yeah, SMG2 - Finally got final star. A few tricks - After the cloud section, try to end with 3 spare clouds! To do this you need to set a cloud near the last fence so that it continues moving closer to the warp star. Then jump over through the cloud powerup to reload, land on cloud and jump to warp star.
On the section with the pull stars, instead of timing your movement through the moving barriers, just let yourself drop by releasing the pull star for a few seconds. You will then fall beneath the barriers! Quickly grab the next pull star and you proceed nice a safely.
So if you managed to save your clouds for the hammer bros section (just one should do) you can use it to jump over the gap instead of trying to use the spinning platforms whilst dodging the incoming hammers.

Is Wii Mario Kart really cheap or holding its value? I played for 5 minutes the other day and now quite fancy playing it again.

Mario Kart Wii is alright, but first party games don't tend to drop in price much. Still waiting no New Super Mario Bros Wii to go below £30. I tend to use gamestracker to find cheap prices. www.gamestracker.com/mario-kart-wii-wii.htm

Finished Metroid: Other M and I'd have to say that despite some frustrating moments it's bloody brilliant.
As I already said there's no reason to have the first person bits. I suppose it's a good feature if you want it, but I object to being forced to use it for certain moments. The worst ones are where you have to look for something before you can proceed.
Also: recharging. Should your energy meter get in the red and/or your missiles be depleted you can recharge by holding the Wiimote vertical and holding A. OK. Problem is, it has to be vertical, not vertical-ish, which can happen in the heat of battle and often cause you to just switch to morph ball mode.
There are a couple of bosses that are A LOT harder than the others in the game. I don't mind, but I think they could have steadily got tougher, rather than have a sudden huge spike in difficulty.
But overall I really liked the game.
Now perhaps I should get around to buying Mario Galaxy 2.

I think I'll stick Other M on my Christmas list after all! I got Blast Works: Build Trade Destroy just there, and it's a lot of fun. Definitely worth the 8 quid for the creation tools alone. A'like a 2d shooter mixed with Katamari Damacy. Just plugged in some Madworld after a 6 month hiatus, got to the boss I couldn't beat, got killed and turned the machine off. I'm rotten at Madworld, me.

Anyone picking up Batman: Brave And The Bold? I'm considering it as you can get it for less than £20. But I reckon give it a few months and it will be around the £12 mark...

So any upcoming games appeal? Goldeneye's out soon and Kirby's been getting good reviews. Bit closer to xmas there's the new Donkey Kong Country and Mario Allstars too.

I'll be getting Mario Allstars and Kirby. It remains to be seen if DK is going to impress, as I was never a huge fan of the originals. I recently bought Cursed Mountain, as I saw it very cheap in Gamestation. Still to play it, but apparently it's got a good atmosphere if little else.

Oooh, tempted by Mario All Stars, even if it is paying so much for a SNES collection of NES games and I already have them all on GB/GBA that I can play on my GB Player for GC.
Anyone know how it's modified from the SNES release?

I imagine it'll be a change to the menus, but not much else. The games'll be the same as their SNES counterparts I believe.
That said, the box, booklet and DVD make it a worthwhile purchase for me.
