BW Tramutate: Anyone else got one ? Have you got any difficulty getting yours to stand ?
I was all ready to sell mine on eBay and I discovered it didn't look quite straight when standing up....

There is one Optimus Primal that is far superior to the original...
Namely Beast Wars Reborn Optimus Primal - available in the exclussive Takara BW Reborn Two-Pack with Megatron.
It is the same Ultra mold, but with chest and head sculpt altered to perfectly match the CGI animation.
Naturally - he is the Optimus Primal I have.
Second place goes to Robotmasters/BW reissue Takara Primal - all of the fun of the original version, with even BETTER remoulding than even the Reborn version - note that Robotmasters/BW reissue Primal has accurate shoulder missiles.

It is the same Ultra mold, but with chest and head sculpt altered to perfectly match the CGI animation. Naturally - he is the Optimus Primal I have. I'll admit I've only glimpsed the BW Reborn version, but what I saw of it didn't feel like enough of an alteration to warrant owning it along with the original version. The minor tweaks were decent, but not worth the investment I felt. Actually, Ultra Primal is one of the few Beast Wars toys I have retained through three instantiations of the "Great Purge". He pretty much is going to be a keeper I think. He looks quite spiffy standing next to Big Convoy as well (hmm, think I need to get Ultra Primal out and back into the shelf rotation in the near future...) Shoulder missiles on my Ultra Primal are fairly accurate - more so than on most Transformers. They'll reliably hit an Alternator sized target at a metre and a half anyway, which is as much accuracy as you really need.... :-) Karl

Well - all I can throw in is once you taste BW Reborn Primal and Megatron - there's no going back. They are perfection and beauty. I highly recommend them - worth every penny I mean - even the monkey face actually looks good - a real face - nice calm eyes- basically the face of Optimus Primal as Monkey that lovers of BW expect... and Megatron's robot head is just oodles better. Robotmaster Megatron however one-ups BW Reborn by having a removal tail unveiling a robot arm - which I just love. As for the accuracy of RM Primal's shoulder rockets - I meant accurate to the CGI and not accurate as in they shoot straght (actually they don't shoot at all) dyrl

Well - this is offset by two other benefits to the RM Primal mode:
1. Rocket Thrusters on his back - well molded detailed rocket thrusters.
2. Proper Double-Barrel Guns that come out of his lower arms in the CGI correct way - aka you don't need to split his arm in half to get at them - not even BW Reborn Primal has this.
All in all, I must say that Takara have done a marvelous job with RM Primal and Megatron - a pity the same was not done in the Ultra class.

I have to disagree with you there the Ultra class is a phenomenal toy. The changes were made due to limitations in budget available to the cgi. I think the arm splitting apart for the guns is a great feature.

The Ultra is better for having a proper Prime faceplate too.

I think the question is mute - I agree with those who have noted that re-inventing the brand is not the norm. Plus, the brand has expanded. Beast Wars was a radical departure because it was a totally "new universe" - miles away from G1, although...technically in the same Universe... but now we have Multiverse and the shows don't even PRETEND to try to tie together save a few loose references... I think we've come to the stage where you have to just pick the Transformers line that you prefer and the aesthetic and story outline that you prefer. Hasbro/Takara are being smart by giving us variety. There will always be a kiddie line and a collectors line and a number of in-between things and that is as it should be. personally though - I would LOVE to see Beast Wars continued. But then again - I would love to see G1 continued - literally - just pick up from where it left off. Sadly - I doubt this is going to happen dyrl

I need 2 sets of Beast Wars pictures and I'm hoping someone has them or knows where I can find them !
1) The photos from Toyfair of the first full year of Beast Wars that show the Orange Tigertron. They appeared in either Lees or Tomart. I've got the mags but they're in my Mum's loft in London.
2) Prototype images of the grey (and purple ?) Cheetor repaint that was going around when Universe was happening.
Much appreciated !

Yes the Tigatron is nice. Well worth a release one day I feel.

Thank you.
Now I've got these I've managed to complete my updates to my Beast Wars Deluxe reviews for Cheetor, Dinobot, Rhinox, Waspinator & Tarantulas. It also covers all their repainted characters (Tigatron, Shadow Pather, Grimlock, Buzzsaw and Blackarachnia) and all of the repaints of both of them - Japanese BW, Fox Kids, 10th Anniversary. I knew Dinobot was prolific but the real surprise for me was how many times Cheetor had been used !

What the smeg is the "Wikia vs David Willis Debate" and who is David Willis? Oh, wait, you said not to get into it. I just googled the toys and ended up at those pages. There are two Transformers Wikis?

David Willis (author of webcomic Shortpacked) was one of the main contributors (and presumably admins) of the Transformers Wiki. As Wikia grew they started messing with the layout and started disrupting user content with adverts. Obviously a site needs a source of revenue to survive, but the layout changes were apparantly too much and hence prompted the move. See Willis' Live Journal for more info.

TFU claim that Spittor was sold in Europe as a Maximal with a Maximal rubsign. While I'd agree the first point I'm not so sure about the second. Anyone know for sure if Spittor was sold with a Maximal rubsign ? Or even has one ?

Is this the red one?
I had this for a time, and he did indeed have a Predacon "Energon Chip". I remember checking/verifying at the time as in 1998 (when he came out) there was a lot of Internet-based wonderingness that he'd have a Maximal one. But he didn't.

Unless there's a variant (I've never heard of one), it was a Maximal card with Predacon rubsign.

A quickie for you guys...
Longrack and Buzzsaw Beast Wars figs had Amarda/Energon/Cybertron homage figs done for them.
My question is: Where there any other Beast Wars characters that had this treatment?
Ta!
