It's a very good package. Each of the three strips feel very distinctive and dense, giving the comic a sense of variety and value for money in the current market. The art looks nice at 'magazine size' and it's cheaper than grabbing the issues on Comixology. I actually prefer this version of the 12th Doctor to his on-screen counterpart, the 11th Doc tale is a lovely 'done in one' piece with an intriguing sub-plot that I did not see coming (both the Doctor and the reader hit a lamp-post at the same time when they spot it) and the 10th Doc one feels distinctive for that 'era'. It's either sold like hot cakes or has poor distribution in the Edinburger area though: I haven't seen a single copy in the wild and only have #1 as Andu found me a copy. If #2 is as hard to find I may have to subscribe!
Sorry, Panini Hulk book but you're being dropped so I can get this.

I've been looking for a issue six for a few weeks, thinking it had been delayed for some reason. Then I discovered Smiths have moved this from the 'fantasy/sci-fi/panini' section to the 'poly-bagged free gift no-content' kids section. Someone's not actually looking at the content in the magazine.
Issue six then - possibly the best yet. Loving this comic. So much better than the DWM strip. The characterisations are so much better.

Cheeky Titan! Cheeky! Issue 7 is a bumper issue with four reprints in it instead of the usual three, but unlike when panini do this with the marvel books Titan have put the price up a quid! Same next month too!

Yes I thought that was a bit cheeky. I'm losing patience a bit with the 12th Doc series but I think that's down to them emulating that version of the character so well. He is just an unlikeable prick. Still enjoying the 10th and 11th Doc runs though.

I'd agree with that. I think the 12th stories have been the weakest. 10/11 are really good though. This current Weeping Angels bit with 10 is really quite impressive.

Yes, I would say the 10th Doc Weeping Angels tale has been the highlight of the comic so far for me. Doubly impressive as I feel they are played out on TV and I wasn't convinced they would work in other mediums. Plus it has Scottish soldiers from areas I know!

The 'next issue' blurb in the current edition notes that Cornell's Four Doctors crossover event story starts next issue! A surprise. I didn't think the UK title would get to that for a while. I hope they run the 9th Doc mini too.

Nice surprise that. I was listening to a podcast review of that series this week and musing on how long it might be before the UK comic reprints it, then wallop! it's here next month.
But what's afoot? rather than being Issue #9 - November, it's shown as being Issue #1 - Winter. £3.99 again though. So it's a soft relaunch after just eight issues to tie into the new TV series launch? and Winter maybe if it publishes 13 times a year instead of 12? just guesses. Annoying though.

Nice surprise that. I was listening to a podcast review of that series this week and musing on how long it might be before the UK comic reprints it, then wallop! it's here next month. I've enjoyed the 4 Doctors crossover so far. I have to admit it's the first time I've bought a Doctor Who series on a monthly basis. I tend to wait for the Titan/IDW trade paperback. What was the podcast? I'd be interested in hearing what they think of the series.

Surely it must be selling well enough. Doctor Who is the hot property in the newsagent. Doesn't DWM sell more than every other genre magazine combined or something stupid? I would bet it's like Panini's Marvel resets that coincide with film releases. It'll be so when Who comes back into public conscious in a few weeks' time the next new issue is a jump on point #1 launch.

What was the podcast? I'd be interested in hearing what they think of the series. Oh it's an offshoot from an American general comics and pop culture podcast I listen to called Major Spoilers. Two of the presenters from that do a podcast called Duelling Review where they spend half an hour each week going over a new comic in detail. I got into it because they also do a real play D&D podcast called Critical Hit which really is excellent. majorspoilers.com/category/dueling-review-podcast/It's one of those things that makes more sense when you've listened to the main show for a while, and it can be frustrating because the guy who reckons himself to be a Doctor Who 'fan', Matthew, is consistently wrong about things, while sounding authoritatively right because none of the other cast know enough to doubt him. During this review he labels the 'Keys to Marinus' (sic) as being an early lost story. But the flip side is they do know their comics and the main show is always interesting to listen to. Matthew is also a devout Transformers fan and periodically tries to push IDW's books on the rest of the cast. He got them to review LSOTW a long time back, which went down like a lead balloon because not being Transformers fans no one else understood any of it.

I would bet it's like Panini's Marvel resets that coincide with film releases. It'll be so when Who comes back into public conscious in a few weeks' time the next new issue is a jump on point #1 launch. The last ABC numbers showed a drop in DWM down to circa 25K physical sales with circa 1k digital sales. Despite a big drop in numbers it remains the best selling 'genre' mag in the UK though. Doctor Who Adventures has now slipped under 20k (it was selling well over 100k at its peak) with the change of publishers not making much of a difference sales-wise. Still a good number for the current kiddy comics market though. There may not be a market for a third DW newsstand title ie the Comic and now a 4th title (the Hachette partwork) has launched. I am doubtful the market can sustain them all. The Four Doctors story is running early in the Comic with several issues of the ongoing series skipped over. Makes sense to pull it forward for a sales boost at this point though. -Ralph

Has this reboot issue not come out on time? It was supposed to be out Oct 6th but no sign of it in Smiths today. But then Smiths have this annoying tendency to keep moving it to different places in the shop so I may just have not seen it.
Similarly, but unrelated, I quite fancy the Essential Thunderbirds bookazine that was advertised in the last DWM, but that doesn't seem to be out either - has that been spotted?

I have not seen the latter but I have seen the former in RS McColl. It's a jumping off point for me though. Need to cut the budget so this and the Dredd HC's dropped. I can always get the DW comics in a Comixology sale at some point.

Found this in Tesco along with Thunderbird 3. This issue is presented as Vol 2 Issue 1 and reprints the Four Doctors 1-3. Next month is part 4, along with the next issues of Doctors 10 and 12.
