Yes, the comic is definitely badged as volume 2 number 1. Must have been a late change.

That looks interesting. I do hope this UK version keeps going. I like the anthology format for the price. The Four Doctors story is really good, and the 12th one in this new issue is fun too. Compared to the tired stuff being trotted out by DWM it's amazing.

Four Doctors was pretty bad. The first misfire in the comic so far. Thankfully the regular Doctor series have resumed so the quality is back!

What the fuck, Titan? What the fuck?
This morning in Smiths I find they've started a second Who title, but at the Panini Marvel size, called Tales from the TARDIS printing the Ninth Doctor comic alongside ones from the other three.
What? two titles but different paper sizes? If that's an experiment to see if more people buy a smaller sized issue how can they tell when the other A4 sized title already has a following? That effectively makes a fortnightly Who comic. £8 a month.
What the FUCK Titan?

How odd. I had no idea that existed. News to me and no mention of it in the last regular DW Comic. Perhaps that will have Exciting News next issue and be replaced by this new thing?

Yep. There are next issue dates in the back for issue two of this, and issue four of the regular comic. They're two weeks apart. Next issue of the new one is a 100 page special.
From a collector's point of view this is really annoying. The renumbering was bad enough, but starting a whole different title just to get another number one on the stands is ridiculous. If sales are good enough to support another title, why not just make the current one fortnightly!?
It wouldn't happen on Planet Zero.

Indeed. I am at a loss to suggest what the logic of their plan is. For that matter, it seems opaque as to what the actual plan is...

I can see the sense of having two titles if there is a disinction between them, ie one title runs the ongoing 10th/11th/12th Doc stories and the other title runs previous Doctor series ie 4th/8th/9th and any special events. But...the back of the new one advertises next issue having the 10th Doctor in it...but he's already running in the original title! Aaaarrrrggghhh.
What is also odd is how it slipped out. I only know it exists because Pinwig posts here. I did not see it when picking up my regular new comics from RS McColl (who stock most titles) and there was no mention of it in the last issue of the main Doctor Who Comic! Launching a new comic the week before Christmas with no advertising is...odd. I'm the target market for this and I had no idea it existed. Not even the Doctor Who News page seems to know of this.

I knew only because it was tucked behind the X-Men issue I was after. This doesn't make much sense either, but I could see it being a different size because the A4 comic is put in the kids section in Smiths (well mine anyway) whereas this new smaller one was in the US sized comics section, which is with the SF Magazines. It's possible if you were an older Who fan you may not know the A4 comic exists because you'd never look in the kids' section. So maybe Titan are trying to pitch to two audiences and get them to cross over. It's a weak argument though.
That said, the A4 one shouldn't be in the kids' section anyway. The content is too strong to sit with Cbeebies stuff and Doctor Who Adventures.
They also must have changed their mind at the last minute as to what this first issue would contain, because the printing details say it has 12th #16, 9th #1 and 10th #10 in it, but there is no 10th. It has 9th #2 instead.

Just mad. I mostly enjoy Titan DW so will prob read both titles to keep up with the storylines but that means I must drop another title to afford it so it's bye-bye TF RID UK as that is the one comic I can probably live without.

"Exciting news inside" is code for a comic being cancelled. Which has happened with the Doctor Who one See subscriber letter here: comicsuk.co.uk/forum/download/file.php?id=3529&mode=viewBUT WAIT it is no cancelled, it is in fact being renamed, to the name of the other currently running Dr Who comic. So uh EXCITING OPPORTUNITY TO MERGE THE TWO YES.

Oh right, I see! Yes, I remember that sinking feeling being told a comic merger was a positive step when I was a kid.
I wonder if that was always the intention then from the point Tales started, or whether sales showed the US size books sell better. They've been reprinting seven US issues a month since January which was always unsustainable for any length of time. Looks like they wanted to get caught up with the US titles to make the UK comic more appealing to import buyers. I see now on the back page of this issue there's no promo for an issue 7, just the next Tales issue, but it doesn't say anywhere that this is the last A4 issue.
I don't mind that, going back to one issue a month is better. I just wish they'd gone for the US size book in the first place so the collection is uniform.

Oh yes! I didn't see that. Well it made no sense there were two comics of different sizes covering the same thing. They've caught up some slack, finished all the Year One stories and done the 9th Doctor mini & the Four Doctors, so given the next Tales will be the start of all the Year Two stories I'm surprised it isn't another vol 2 issue 1 situation.

Unfortunately, the smaller size format title is exasperatingly hard to find in Edinburger. I know of only one newsagent that stocks it - four miles away. Conversely, the larger size format (other than the first 3 issues) is quite widely sold in these parts.

Maybe if there's only one title the other will become more available. I think the A4 one was on a hiding to nothing anyway. Casual shoppers of the target audience would never find it round my way, it was always in the kids comic section and took forever to find in the mess. Totally inappropriate there. The US size one is with the Panini Marvel books, which is the right place.
