The legs I think are an oddity that has escaped too much criticism because of the other more visible faults, but the feet do look like an oddly folded up collection of offcuts that don't fit anywhere else. I'm not having this business that he's bound to be an odd looking robot because his alt mode is a van, so it's hard to get a good looking robot out of what is just a box. Piffle. The amount of people on that tfw thread defending it on the basis that 'its a hard altmode to get a good robot mode from' beggars believe. It's a box! It's the easiest altmode to get a robot mode from! Damn right! Especially as we could have had a great big huge M.A.R.B. to hide cartoon accurate arms, legs, pelvis, PRETTY MUCH ANYTHING!

He looks okay, but he has a giant crotch and the face looks off. Though the fact I can moan about something like that on a Masterpiece Ironhide of all things indicates that maybe we're all a bit spoiled! Spoiled?! Spoiled, sir?!?! NO!!! NNNNOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! This is IRONHIDE and RATCHET we're talking about here! Two pivotal A-list characters which haven't had a good showing since Diacloooonnneeee! THEY, WE, DEMAND PERFECTION!!!!

Yeah that logic is ridiculous. The reason it looks funny is that its based on an animation model that had little if any relation to a physical three dimensional toy. When the models are closer to the base toy you get details like wheels on the shoulders or legs and other recognisable vehicle parts dotted around the robot mode. Ironhide and ratchet only have van fronts stuck on to a generic robot. That's the nub right there. Spot on. The animation model itself doesn't look like our perceptions of Ironhide, so the toy stood no chance.

Exactly. The Kaptain and myself had a chat about that. Essentially if you want the robot to look like the Sunbow animation model it either needs to be done at a much higher-cost (around the $200) mark or as a non-transforming action figure. As folk have said the animation model just was not designed with the thought of how to translate it into a transforming toy. I think this MP Ironhide is as close as can be got to it at the price-point. I can well understand folk being disappointed but sadly not every animation model can be replicated in a 3-d transforming toy.
In some pics the robot mode looks a bit 'meh' to me personally. Sometimes I think it looks ok. The van mode looks excellent: Diaclone brought back to life. The more I look at pics though the more MP Ironhide feels like a toy to me rather than as a collectors piece as such, which is probably why it's one of the few Masterpiece toys that I am finding myself drawn to...

To me, the MP figure looks *exactly* like the animation model, which is crap, which is why the toy looks like it will be crap. I can see that now rewatching the cartoon for the other thread, Ironhide is badly proportioned and largely improvised because when the animators created his figure they couldn't use the toy as a reference.

I love Google translate. "valuable and precious Speaking be", "seal of the face put on the seat" and "cloudy clear parts" sound like characters out of the last Grey Area story in 2000AD.

Urzu liking this so much is crazy! I can only conclude his eyesight's hazy! I'm sure the toy wont be a complete rejection. But Ironhide and Ratchet demand perfection!

It could be . I like it, and would love to get it , but there's lots of stuff I'd love to get which I won't get now and will only get later if supplies and opportunity presents itself . To me, this is fine, just not even close to the top of the list . I have CW Ironhide and he's fine . I have no Hotrods and am happily waiting on MP. This is good. Might be more tempted by Ratchet , but my Prime Ratchet - like my Prime Soundwave - is really nice.

It's kinda wierd. The only thing that stops him being 'cartoon accurate' (I guess) is the hip kibble, but no-one complained when the new Strike Plane mold had that.
I still like it.
