Looking great! Definitely going to be getting one; the nay-sayers have lost even more currency with me given how many complaints there were about Tracks and yet in hand he turned out to be a great figure.

Does linking direct to facebook images work? This one actually makes the figure look pretty neat: With five new MP figures coming in the next five months now is not the time to get behind. I may have to bung in an order for this during the week before the preorders close down.

I hate Ironhide, he is one of my least favourite characters of all time and I don't get the obsession fandom has with him.
Also he lost his nipples.

Not lost, replaced with nipple tassel windscreen wipers! He can swing 'em right round you know.
I've no problem with Ironhide as a character, and he's one of the 84/85 elite, so I need him for the MP display. I agree though in terms of enjoyment as a toy he's probably the least desirable of the original cars. I had one once, no idea where it went, and he's bottom of the rebuy list in my G1 quest. In fact I might just make do with an encore for him as I have an original Ratchet.

Regret not buying them when there were mountains of the reissues at £10 each (I'm sure I'll hate it and want to immediately get rid of it so I don't particularly want to go paying more!!)

I find G1 Ironhide quite high on the list in terms of enjoyment! The sled adds some play value, and once you've got past the non-standard robot mode it's quite appealing, adds some variety.

Ratchet was my first Transformer along with Mirage, so I have a certain fondness for him. Ironhide never left much of an impression on me barring his rock-clearing session in Target:2006 and his suddenly being able to fly as fast as an F-15 and shoot missiles out of his back in MTMTE (the cartoon, not the comic).
Quite looking forward to this guy coming out, but not as much as I would be for someone like Skids, Jazz, Trailbreaker or Inferno. Or Cosmos. You never know.

The original Ironhide/Ratchet toy is great fun. This looks ok though the sled makes me sad.

I love the original Ratchet/Ironhide mold. Unique and full of play-factor. And I like the character very much, lots of scope, he has, in terms of interaction.
That pic of him actually does make him look not-terrible. But yes, Doc's right, the sled/MARB is just frakking pathetic. Oh Dear God.

Yeah. In a way I think the sled is what's killed it for me. If they weren't going to do it properly, I'd rather they'd not bothered at all. Rather than doing... that.

Glorious!! The original face homage is an unexpected bit of awesome.
Not sure why they left the tracks off the sled and didn't paint the front rampy bit though?

Because it's a cheap gimmick and not a proper sled. It's just a plastic tray to keep his bits in.
Definite 3P op to do a proper one, even if it wouldn't actually fit in van mode.

Actually, sod it. Let's have a full blown proper 3P go at a masterpiece of the original toy.

Is there some sort of cultural divide that says Japan loves the cartoon over the toys so much that having a sled come out of the van mode would have been so awful? I just don't get that part.
I mean, when they put the toys original head behind the windscreen anyway...
I still like him, but, what with Ratchet losing the medibay (A big part of the original toy for me) too, I just cannot wrap my head around it.
I guess it could be scale.. they needed the extra plastic to gain some height and he is only a minivan after all.

I think '84 Ironhide and Ratchet suck so much that they are permanently left in van mode, riding around in Metroplex

Dez' is one against many with talk like that. '84 R&I are so wonderfully alien and robotic with a ton of play value. I'm so gutted they couldn't fathom a cartoony robot with a full sled. Best of both worlds. The sled would have hidden a lot of the robot parts for them! I wouldn't have minded loosing some of the robot height.
I'm destined to be left wanting where R & I are concerned. Forever. Fail every time.
