I've recently cleaned up, completed and reprolabelled my original and in doing so rediscovered how great he is. The flight mode is nifty and unique among those car robots. The Binaltech one is good, I have been happy with that, but a proper Masterpiece would be a great addition to the range. Ironhide too. Perhaps the wait to see how they handle the head is nearly over, although given the Masterpieces lean heavily toward the cartoon I think it's a foregone conclusion. That's one of very few cases where I'd be happy for cartoon accurate over toy. Whereas I am exactly the opposite there. :-) Karl It's a tough one. I would usually go toy over cartoon in any circumstance. But I think these Masterpieces would look odd with a toy faithful Ratchet/Ironhide. The problem is that the Masterpiece cars have all been homogenised to look uniform in robot mode. The Prowl, Wheeljack and Sideswipe moulds all have the same proportions which is not the case with the G1 toys. If they were more G1 accurate with size/shape then you could do a toy accurate Ironhide because it wouldn't stand out so much, but as it is I don't think it'd fit.

If there was a way of getting the animation accurate robots and still having a repair/battle bay, then I suspect that's what they'll aim for. It's what I'd hope for from an Ironhide/Ratchet.

I think having the repair bay makes it massively more easy to make a cartoon accurate robot. Make the perfect robot transform it as best as possible in to a van shape. Make the repair bay fill in the gaps.
If/when we get Ratchet and Ironhide, they are going to be cartoon accurate over toy, I don't think theres any real doubt about it, but I still hope they have a feature where the head can be sat inside the chest and visible through the window.

Make the repair bay fill in the gaps. THIS IS GENIUS!!!! I hadn't considered the 'Ratchet/Ironhide Problem' like this before! Problem solved, baby! The only question is, what's taken the designers so long?! It makes so much sense. You could have a good cartoon accurate robot mode AND have the wonderful G1ick Repair Bay to fill the transformation gap. Andy, I love you. I'd be freakin' OVER THE MOON to get a Cartoon Accurate Yet-With-Repair-bay Ratchet/Ironhide Masterpiece. They're freakin' A-Listers that have had Sh1t poor service *glares at Classics Ratchet/Ironhide in a box ready to at least sell or at worst SMASH. Ihatethemthey'veruinedmylife.*.

I appear to be a little late to the party, but it's already going the way I'd have it go. Ratchet/Ironhide is one of my favourite of the original molds, despite being pretty rubbish. Even so, I'd still like to see a cartoon-accurate robot mode. Having the vehicle mode break into both robot and repair bay modes is something I've wanted to see for years, so let's hope they don't miss the chance to do it that way this time. And I'm hopeful, because I mean it's not like they didn't bother making a cartoon and toy accurate MP Magnus by ignoring the inner robot, right?
Damn.

If the eventual (inevitable?) MP Ironhide and Ratchet come with detachable MARBs, I will explode. -Nick In More Than Meets the Eye we briefly see Ratchet's repair bay when he and 'Hauler' are rescuing Hound. So, cartoon accuracy wise, the repair bay is valid.

In which case it is with heavy heart that I have to say I hope we never get an MP Ironhide and Ratchet... ...although in the unfortunate event that we do, at least Takara can justify it as being cartoon accurate. Good job, Shockprowl! All hail Sunbow!

Normally I don't get repaints of MP figures, but in the case of Ironhide and Ratchet I think I shall need to make an exception.

Indeed - I might be likewise tempted. But only because they're actually two very distinct and very recognisable characters.

There's a surprising amount of remoulding between Sideswipe and Red Alert, and Prowl and Bluestreak are more different than their Diaclone versions with a distinct pelvis and face sculpt as well as the light bar switcheroo. From Ratchet and Ironhide I'd expect different heads and different fold-out equipment at least- like, say, Ironhide has liquid nitrogen sprayers (or one or more of his random drill-arm or back-mounted missile launcher that looks suspiciously like his MARB missile launcher from MTMTE) while Ratchet has his laser scalpel and/or other deployable tools. Of course, such add-ons might wind up as Amazon exclusives...

The repair bay section can also be used for weapons storage - & it could be slightly altered to make Ratchet & Iron hide look different when transfomred.

Ratchet was my FIRST Transformer (along with Mirage). Warrior School was my FIRST Marvel comic story. MP Ironhide means MP Ratchet and that means joy beyond words. Plus Tracks has had a fine Binaltech/Alternator and a very good CHUG figure. Ratchet/Ironhide have never had updates worthy of the name- Animated Ratchet is great but he's also a distinct character from the original. All the MP cars so far have been great so I have confidence that the MP vans will be great too. Yay! -Nick Hang on. Is Ironhide actually confirmed? The translation would allow room for interpretation. Just want to be sure before I dry-hump a lamp post. -Ralph

He is not confirmed. He is speculated because, as you pointed out, the writing is ambiguous.

Ironhide will be animation model accurate I'm sure. Nothing else makes sense. By my own genitals I hope so.

That's like... The only decent Ironhide ever made. Too bad he's almost as tall as optimus, because if he were the size of the cars, he'd be great for both MP AND Classics (which is the only G1 collection that matters to me. )

I always said that I'd skip Ironhide in favour of Ratchet for economic reasons, but... damn. I may have to have both after all.

I was pretty sure Ironhide had a thread already, he's been rumoured so much but evidentially not!

You're remembering us discussing an Ironhide thread because he took over the tracks thread from the start. The tracks thread may as well been retitled.

I don't do this deliberately to be contrary but, that MP Ironhide does nothing for me at all. I've never been a fan of the animation model being so changed from Ironhide's original appearance, mostly becausr Ironhide and Ratchet were the ones that really looked like they could be Alien Space Robots much more than most of the Autobot Cars. But I acknowledge that in this I am wildly out of step with the rest of fandom - which Is why I never expected to see an Ironhide toy done which appealed to me.
Viewed in terms of Tomy and Hasbro's intent for the Masterpiece Transformers line - of hewing to the animation model designs - this is a superb piece of work indeed. I appreciate it's existence and the impressiveness of the design and engineering.

Ta. When I'm back home I'll look at getting the Ironhide posts out of there and into here.
A quick look at it now indicates time and a proper keyboard is needed for that job!

There was a Masterpiece Tracks..?
And, wow. That's looking good. The only wrinkle was that I saw the slide that contained all his special features first, and saw that it actually had a repair/weapons bay! And then I saw the photo of them together on stage, and was less than impressed. It's more of a repair/weapons picnic table...
So yeah, I'm disappointed that the robot's not smaller, and that we didn't get a proper weapons/repair bay instead. That would have been awesome. But it's really nice looking, so I'll let it pass. Except that I won't be getting him at all - I'll *defintely* be waiting for Ratchet. Just because Ratchet was - thanks to the comics - always my favourite.
Oooh. I wonder if Ratchet'll come with a Buster Witwicky figure..? Probably not. But I can hope.

Slightly underwhelmed by that, especially if he's significantly bigger than the other car robots. That head doesn't look anything like Ironhide to me. I suppose these being cartoon focussed we weren't to expect the MARB station bit (was his called a MARB too? I can't remember) but there doesn't seem anywhere near as much fine detail in that as there is the other cars.
Also, the chest and arms are VERY similar to the Voodoo Robots one.
