What's going on in Ironhide's picture no.1?
I.... I dunno.... I think I'm liking him more. I just hate his waste and crotch and hip pannels.
He certainly comes with lotsa stuff!
30 years I've waited for this toy (kind of).

I look at it this way: If you don't like it, you can always just go back to the Universe version.
I like this Iron Hide.

I think the Diaclone mould remains the best Ironhide toy thus far.

I'd be inclined to agree, but it's hard to reconcile his diminutive size and spindly frame with his hoary old warhorse personality. If you look at him that way he starts to come across as Gimli. Actually, I suppose that works. Mind you when I was a kid he was only ever in robot mode attached to his base, same with Ratchet. Boosted him up a bit.

It is an odd state of affairs. I love the G1 Ironhide/Ratchet mold, BUT, I crave a cartoon/later comic accurate toy. I had great hopes that a future Masterpiece would combine the two elements.

As did I. But alas, since he never looked like that in the cartoon, we were never going to get it...

Ratchet might though. He used his medibay a couple of times in the cartoon. There is yet hope, albeit slim

Ah! You mean Ironhide looks so rubbish because he's badly remoulded from the brilliant Ratchet one we've yet to see! I like it!

I don't hate it, and until I saw the hollow arms in the other thread was pretty happy with him.
But Ratchet needs his medibay, and I'd like it (in an ideal world) to look better than the one Ironhide has got.

I agree that the 84 Ironhide toy doesn't quite match the personality that character was given in media. I still really like it as a toy though.
I did have a soft spot for Universe Ironhide even though objectively it was pretty terrible!
The Energon Thingy Chap who was repainted as Ratchet for Botcon was pretty good. Even had a M.A.R.B.!

I think it lost a lot of value when they decided not to include the Diaclone men.

Yes it was a good Ironhide/Ratchet repaint.

Oh Lord Energon Towline is brillant and it's a CRIIIIIMMME the mold wasn't mass released as Ironhide and Ratchet. Makes me angry.
The Classics/Generations mold is a horror. It makes me really angry.

10,000 Yen, that's £55 at the moment. Not too bad. Except he's not yet Ratchet. But I shall bide my time...

It's the head, hips and crotch/pelvis. Not right. Head to thin. Crap hip plates. Biiiig pelvis. He's got a fat ass. Too lanky looking, to tall, and no M.A.R.B. Nice weapons though. And alt mode looks ok. *sigh*

What's worse? Oversized bum flap or... BUTT TYRES??
Looks good to me except for the legs which are plain blocks.

The legs I think are an oddity that has escaped too much criticism because of the other more visible faults, but the feet do look like an oddly folded up collection of offcuts that don't fit anywhere else. I'm not having this business that he's bound to be an odd looking robot because his alt mode is a van, so it's hard to get a good looking robot out of what is just a box. Piffle.

If Gobots taught us nothing else it's that you can get decent robots out of anything, even rocks.

The amount of people on that tfw thread defending it on the basis that 'its a hard altmode to get a good robot mode from' beggars believe. It's a box! It's the easiest altmode to get a robot mode from! He looks okay, but he has a giant crotch and the face looks off. Though the fact I can moan about something like that on a Masterpiece Ironhide of all things indicates that maybe we're all a bit spoiled!

Yeah that logic is ridiculous. The reason it looks funny is that its based on an animation model that had little if any relation to a physical three dimensional toy. When the models are closer to the base toy you get details like wheels on the shoulders or legs and other recognisable vehicle parts dotted around the robot mode. Ironhide and ratchet only have van fronts stuck on to a generic robot.
The end result of trying to make that in to a toy is a design that seems to have gone to extreme lengths to makes lower legs into generic blocks rather than looking like parts of a vehicle as every other MP to date does. Its why more energy has been spent hiding one pair of wheels inside the legs rather than being left as part of the robot design while the other pair has just been dumped on his backside which has no basis on either the original toy or the animation model.
