Wonderfest i think. It looks great, but i wish it had come out before they went so far towards the cartoon. Some chrome and extra detailing would have been nice. There'll be a toy colours version in a year or so... This looks surprisingly close to FT Willis in design. I'll get this one because we're in a real drought when it comes to new G1 masterpiece figures, but I'm not sure this actually looks better than Willis. It'll feel cheaper for sure. |

Glad I held off on Gundog now. I think that Gundog possibly looks better, but I feel I have to support official releases.

I have Gundog, I will get Hound and see which is better I guess. Although I still have Sunsurge as well as streaker because that is pretty awesome..

I think Gundog and this will be sufficiently different to warrant keeping both. Gundog looked more like an elaborate CHUG toy than an MP to me, whereas Willis was spot on to the animation model. I don't see me getting rid of Willis because I just love the finish FT toys have. They're so good compared to the cheaper plasticky feel the Takara carbots have.
I was about to go for the Downbeat reissue but I don't think this will stop me. I want the insurance of having a Jazz that looks right just in case Takara have some kind of problem with that one.

The irony is that although the world and his wife now want to get shot of their 3P Hounds, they still seem to think they can demand daft prices. I saw a Willis go up for £150 earlier.

I still much prefer my Willis. Much better looking than this - but if people prefer the cartoon look, then good for them (if they have £130 to spend of course).

MP's really are getting on the steep side aren't they. How much of this can we blame on the exchange rate and how much is rising cost from the manufacturer?

How can anyone be surprised by the price? MP's hit boutique toy prices a while ago. The range has been repositioned to aim at a certain class of fan. It is the Hot Top-esque TF line now. You're paying for the name.

I don't think the exchange rate is a huge factor; the reissue of Soundwave is up now for £115 on TFE. Which makes £130 for Hound a nonsense. ID are generally a bit high. I imagine TFE will undercut that by a tenner, maybe 15. |

The surprise is only in the inconsistency - new figures are stupidly high, compared to similar older figure reissues maintaining their original prices. You can get the reissues of figures like Wheeljack and Bluestreak for £60/£65, so why does Hound need to be twice that? I think this Hound is going to have to be spectacularly good now for me to want to replace Willis. |
