Well for me (and despite being another prequel) Rogue One felt much fresher than TFA so I am hoping the folk behind the films have got the nods back to older films out of their system now!

Indeed! One of the things I really liked about Rogue One was how much it stood on its own feet. Sure, it's outcome is pivotal to the events of the first Star Wars film, but as a narrative it is primarily concerned with its characters story, their actions and their fates. As it should be.
It occurs to me this morning, that "The Last Jedi" is, strictly, accurate as of the events of "The Force Awakens" and its ending. Luke is the last Jedi - his students are all dead, and Ben Organa/Solo fecked off to join whomever the Knights of Ren are and by definition left the Jedi Order. Rey, having not yet been admitted to the Order isn't a Jedi either. So...until events occur to change that situation Luke Skywalker is indeed "The Last Jedi".

JJ Abraham whole thing is redoing something old with a bit of a twist. Sometimes its great sometimes it ain't.
Im confident Disney got exactly what they wanted from him with TFA. It defined what Star Wars for a new generation by heavily leaning on ANH, but importantly he doesnt seem to be/have been involved in the long term direction of the franchise.

Having not really thought about episode VIII, I started getting excited just prior to the trailer. Then I saw it and went back to indifference.

Oh come on! It's a teaser; it's doing what it's supposed to. Look at that first Rogue One trailer - it gave a lot away and then they changed it all. This is just starting the ball rolling. There'll be at least three proper trailers before Christmas. In days gone by this would have been a ten second single shot of Rey standing in shadow with Luke's voice over saying 'There is no try'. I'm surprised there was so much in this, it's great!

Ach it was fine for what it was a teaser.
It's nice that this exists but for me the Thrawn Trilogy and first Dark Empire mini will always be my sequel to the trilogy.

Well my self imposed exile of the internet begins today then I guess. Not watching the teaser, not reading reactions to the trailer, not nothing. See you all in December.

Oh come on! It's a teaser; it's doing what it's supposed to. Force Awakens teaser blew my pants off. Rogue One teaser got me very excited (amusingly none of it is the finished film). Last Jedi teaser inspired dull surprise. I literally felt no emotion! Not judging the film obviously. Just a thunderingly dull teaser. -Ralph

TFA had 35 years of expectation driving it, along with Harrison Ford. Rogue One also had Star Wars to make it exciting. This teaser is only 16 months after the last film and focused on the new story. Last time, that one shot of the Falcon had me in tears, but I barely noticed it this time because we've moved on. It seems flatter because we're more familiar with this new world. The TFA teaser gave no more of the story than this has, but they don't have the trump cards to play any more.

I see what you mean but I don't agree. New SW is still enough of a thing to get me excited and I loved Rogue One so have a higher anticipation for TLJ but I watched the teaser and it did not fulfil the mission all trailers should do: make me want to see the film. Looks boring. Some pish about breathing while folk hang out on an island.
But then I thought the trailer for Thor 3 looked like lowest common denominator shite and The Internet loved it so maybe I am out of step with popular opinion.

TFA didnt need 35 years of anticipation, it had the Millenium Falcon loop the looping. The Last Jedi had no loop the loops at all, Falcon or otherwise and so it failed me.

Yeah, but the Falcon doing a loop the loop *was* the 35 years of anticipation. Or 33, or whatever it had been since ROTJ.

With the film so far off I guess it is OK at this stage to just show us some images of things... and yet the other first trailers for the other films have excited me more. This one was closest to the first AOTC trailer which as I recall was just a series of clips of things with Vader breathing over them. Whilst this one told us something about the film (Luke thinks it's time for the Jedi to go away) I enjoyed and rewatched that Clones one quite a bit whereas with this one it didn't really do anything for me.

For me, you can't beat the Star Wars Special Edition trailer, seen on a cinema screen, with the X-Wing flying out at you from the TV set. Who needs 3D?

Cripes. That is 20 years old now!
The opening with that square tiny telly would utterly confuse the kids of today!
FFS. I am old.
Fucking Numb Nuts is in that trailer but no Ackbar, the hero of the trilogy.

I'm not a big fan of Star Wars.
I don't even notice who writes papers I use! Actors stand little chance.
