I don't even notice who writes papers I use! . But...but...that makes no sense. Don't you have to include a Bibliography? How can you quote writers? -Ralph

I don't even notice who writes papers I use! Not knowing actors in entertainment franchises I can understand. Especially if it is one that isn't really your thing. After all, I couldn't tell you who played whom in The Walking Dead. Or who the voice actors for the Digimon Dub were. But I'd have thought that you'd need the names of authors of papers - especially if you need to track down past or future work by them in regard to something... Also, how do you make sure that your Referencing Software is actually ingesting the names properly so that they are right when it comes time to do referencing and bibllographies? Karl

I remember by topic/title not author. If I need to reference them I look up the name and put it in. Otherwise it is irrelevant.

How can the name of the person who wrote the work be irrelevant???

Because it's the quality of the work and it's conclusions that matter. Science should never be a fan club.

But the quality of the work is the result of hard work by a person not an anonymous robot. Surely taking note of their name accords them some respect? I am genuinely baffled and dismayed by your attitude.
Noting who wrote something doesn't make it into a "fan club".

In arts etc yes but it's just not something to my brain picks up on easily. I equally have problems when people discuss musicians or writers with me.
In science it annoys that certain labs create buzz because it is someone's lab or group. Irrelevant. If your doing good work in a field I'm interested in I'll come across it and value it accordingly. 'Buzz' around individuals or groups (and journals actuallt) is rampant in much of the medical science community.

*parrys blows with Ferasan Falchion* *separates warring parties*
I can actually see both sides of this one. In a creative environment it absolutely matters who creates something, because part of the package is their style and approach. In scientific snd technical writing you are supposed to stamp out individual voice, so that the work and the results are presented in a neutral manner which is the same no matter who creates the written record. (I am not as good at this as I should be. There are several dryly sardonic sentences in my Masters Thesis that rally shouldn't be there except that I am incapable of making those points without sliding into a slightly dry, withering tone).
Different disciples, with different aims. *steps aside* But by all means, continue with the mortal combat.

Trailer was good, little bit more spoilery than it needed to be really.

I think its close enough to go into spoiler mode now so I'll have to skip the trailer. I thought it would be too, but got convinced otherwise so just watched it. It still isn't giving too much away! And it's looking really good as well. (I don't usually watch trailers past the teaser for the same reason, and have avoided the Thor one for example)

Honestly, I am indifferent to them at best. I fail to understand the obsession with them, especially when Ewoks exist.
