No, Martin, no. You have gone insane. Earthforce is not the end of Marvel! It did not end with Irwin @£@*@& Spoon! *pounds ground* But nothing came after that story! So it was the first last present-day story. OK, 'The Magnificent Six' then. Martin

Some size comparisons: Marvel UK / Marvel US / Hachette Partworks Original art on the left / Marvel UK on top / Hachette in the middle / IDW Classics UK bottom right I forgot I have the Titan Target 2006 reprint too, but I think it's close enough to Marvel UK size.

They can send us a sticker to correct this one. I checked the cover artists for the issue too just in case.

Andrew - that's a great table for all the issues.

Random observations from volume one: Issues 21 and 23 of the US book are lettered by Janice Chiang, issue 22 is lettered by Hans IV - random bloke with odd name, or manny handz style rush job group credit? I always wonder with issue 22's Marvel superhero cover if it causes extra reprint licensing issues, or does anyway even notice? Bit odd to have Jetfire in the 'I'm a robot from Cybertron, we're different to you' role in issue 21 when he was created on Earth and there was a UK issue around the same time highlighting him feeling different from the other Transformers because of it. He even has dialogue about how he used to play sport on Cybertron! How long did it take Runabout and Runamuck to realise humans couldn't read Cybertronian in issue 23, and when they talk to each other shouldn't that be in Cybertronian as well as that's how they write?

Was expecting to see issue 2 in Smiths today, but they're now into week 3 of issue 1.

I always wonder with issue 22's Marvel superhero cover if it causes extra reprint licensing issues, or does anyway even notice? It did for IDW, but Titan didn't have a problem with reprinting it [or the appearances of Marvel characters], so not sure if it's mainly a problem if the primary market for the reprints is the US.

I've seen it in the shops - blue backing card. I want to have all those backing cards
The spine art is just to the left of the test run copy. Ironhide & Hotrod face.

Its more obvious here. It seems the artwork on issues 1 and 2 is scaled down about he same amount from the website image. if thats true of all issues then that and 80 instead of the website 74 issues then all the peach coloured areas will require additional artwork. From my counting v16 is in v15 position - but that is just counting 2 blank at the start. But counting the top bar it could be 18

Picked up #3 in Smiths this morning, which was something of a surprise as they've still not had #2 in. Much more impressed with the quality of the reproduction in this issue. Nice book.
More evidence the spines don't match the website image - mine has only the left half of Hot Rod's face.

Could they have made certain parts of the image wider to cover a wider spine?
I hope the Bob interview in in the issue before #17 so we have it before tfn2017

No, it's simpler than that. It's purely that the image on the website isn't the actual book spines. It's an approximation using the art with lines drawn on it to give an impression. The actual art will have been produced to fit 80 books.

Someone on twitter had a picture from previews a few days ago, unfortunately I can't now remember if it was issues 7 and 8 or 8 and 9 (I've been off work ill!) but the two books were Hearts of Steel and Trial By Fire. Trial looked like it was using a "Weirdwolf Jumps" panel from the American End of the Road for the "Below the poor stock character art" part of the cover.

Could someone please kick me awake whenever a new Marvel one comes out?
I picked up issue #3 at the weekend and loved the recoloured b/w strips - they justify this series in my mind. They don't justify the name 'definitive', but it's one aspect of the series where it surpasses all previous Marvel reprints.

I realise all these issues are being released out of order, but it does seem unnecessarily daft to put out Escalation before Infiltration doesn't it?
And if this is the 'G1' collection, why Hearts of Steel?

Jaymz got the skill to remember I lack.
I think it likely slips through on being a What If take on G1 more than not, despite the very different visial look. Mind, I'd say G2 has more right to be in the series, but no doubt I'll be saying that a lot.
It does seem a bit awkward to be chucking in-IDW continuity stuff in there as well (with the other books in the series thus far clearly being divided by timeline it could get confusing for casual fans), but I guess there was nothing else that could easily have been used to bring it up to size, presuming that Infeststion issue (which I've not read) is hard to present in isolation? Maybe a dedicated "What if?" issue with that "What if Prime didn't die in the film?" special?
On the one hand I'd agree about the oddity of doing Esca before Infil, but equally the non chronology thing is going to hurt the IDW stuff (which is more involved and often in a way that can't be easily covered by recaps than Marvel. How many John Barber continuity nods will be rendered meaningless with the series presented this way?), it might as well start early.
Really hoping we get some of the more recent stuff soon to show the full breadth of the range. Considering the chance to slap "As featured in the Guardian!" on the packaging, there not being a MTMTE book already in the line up seems strange.
But then, that seems to be the opposite problem to the Trek one, where fans are moaning it's all very recent stuff in the issues announced so far and damn it, they want some Marvel and DC.
Oh, and the website finally knows who Jazz is.

I checked the contents of 6 & 7.
#6 Escalation #1-6 #7 Perchance to Dream - Marvel UK #240-260, Marvel US #76-77
Interesting that those b&w strips are being placed so near the end of the run. Maybe it will end with Irwin Spoon.

Hmm, so presumably Earthforce (and the last Annual?) will go with the final US issues then? They could call it End of the Roads.

Got my parcel today with the wallet (Geoff Senior art on it). The spine for v17 must only be about 1cm wide to fit with the art. Half Hotrod face on v16 & Hotrod shoulder on v18.
Invoice dated 27/1/17. Money to be taken out the day after #4 comes out. 9/2/17 - so should be every 2 weeks from then.

Phew. Actually got to the stage of having an email sent from Hachette saying they'd gotten my Direct Debit details. Will it go all the way this time? Books came today anyway. Hurrah. I'm thinking the new colouring works better on Survivors than Race. I think with the later Wildman left a lot of the backgrounds for the colourist to sort out (his close up art is great though, Starscream in particular), but Bove is a bit too faithful so there's still lots of empty blank voids, they're just sometimes pink rather than white.

Really enjoying this series. It's a great opportunity to re-read some classic stories, find out more behind the scenes stuff, and share the experience with my two Transformers mad kids
