But if Longtooth was the Decepticon instead of Sean it would ruin the animal/vehicle theory... Only Longtooth's shell

But Bludgeon's tank mode (and name) is unusual for the shell isn't it? (Unless it isn't actually a tank like I think it is but some form of samurai car) Tanks are traditionally evil though Apart from guzzle And Warpath. And Hardhead. And Grandslam.

Personally I think Optimus and Megatron had their names swapped. Nobody likes a Latin speaking posh snob so why name your good robot in Latin??
And don't tell me that M and O being so close in the alphabet is a 'coincidence' or something.

It stands out as the only vehicle amongst the 1988 Small Decepticon Pretenders. I think we think his inner robot was swapped with Pincher's at some point in the design process and Stranglehold's shell was swapped for Longtooth's. That gives 3 vehicles vs 3 Decepticons and 3 humans (ish) vs 3 monsters all with Skull motif. I completely agree with this theory! I've thought the same myself! IT'S OBVIOUS! The inner robots and shells were mixed up before production! And what's more I think the reason it was done is because Longtooth's shell is- TOO CUTE TO BE A DECEPTICON!!!

Some of those inner robots were clearly gang molded together. I'm not sure if that sways it any.

Yes - Bludgeon is green with brown, Octopunch is brown with orange and Stranglehold is orange with green.

Roadfire's Micromaster pal, apart from being the most impractical drill tank ever, also looks like a Powerdasher: Martin

Should have stuck vehicle mode pics in, especially for Roadfire.

Should have stuck vehicle mode pics in, especially for Roadfire. Yeah, yeah, I know - one's a tank, the other's a futuristic car thing. But we were told by the 'Reinforcements from Cybertron' catalogue that Powerdashers were always evolving! Martin

That'd be a hell of an upgrade for Dai Atlas - from dildo-headed nobody to Autobot Supreme Commander. No wonder he went over the top on his look...

That's not unheard of. That's similar to Bombshell or Skywarp being reformatted into Cyclonus, and finding himself running the Decepticons because Megatron got his ass kicked and went insane.

No, Martin. No.
The Powerdashers cannot be PoweredMasters anymore than they are Powermasters.
They were upgraded and expanded into the Technobots.

Any takers for the Powered Masters being new bodies for (or at least inspired by) the Powerdashers? Jet, drill, land vehicle. Colours not far off. Plus, the similarity in group name. Regarding the colours, the TF release swapped the blue plastic of the Diaclone releases for black [apart from Drill dasher, who was black in both, just blue on that artwork]

I ended up putting my "Red Limbed Cyberjets should have been the Autobots" theory on Twitter today. It's upthread, but to reiterate it runs that "the colour match up between original Air Raid & Skyjack, who gets repainted as Air Raid and original Strafe & Space Case, who gets repainted as Strafe looks too much to be coincidence!" Which gives us this assortment of "Air Raid", "Jetfire" & "Strafe" AndyK makes an excellent point on Twitter: https://twitter.com/andyk332/status/1148178675680067585Can we explain away the colour change for "Jetfire"? YES, WE CAN! Here's what the assortment would have looked like if Jetfre had had his original colours: As you can see we end up with two white and red jets. So the decision is taken, just like with G2 Sideswipe & Inferno, to change one of them to increase the variety of colours. Jetfire then becomes orange. You could even perhaps explain away "Strafe's" blue camo pattern as a previous attemtp to distinguish the two. AndyK then replies on Twitter: https://twitter.com/andyk332/status/1148199155128516613A good point. One possibility might be that Hasbro had the words "Harmony Gold" in the back of their minds, and went something mad for Jetfire. Another is they just painted the wrong one orange. I can also see a possibility from the group name that the Jets were meant to be Autobots all along: Cyberjets is a portmanteau of "Cybertron", the Japanese name for the Autobots, and "jets", literally Autobot Jets.

Alternatively the jets just used previous names to keep the copyright and were never intended to look similar despite Air Raid sharing a bit of black?

Additionally Air Raid is probably a black Cyberjet as Stealth Bombers are, eh, black. Nothing more to it.
