Well, I've finally finished the Fantastic Four TPB Phil lent me. It took me a while to get through, which makes it value for money (if I had paid money for it, which I haven't). The stories were variable, generally improving as the book progressed. Some very good stuff in the second half. And am I right in remembering Johnny's girlfriend as a Herald of Galactus in the TF Hercules back-up strip?
Final verdict after reading Phil's X-Men, Thor, Daredevil and FF = More Thor please!

Yes, Frankie Raye is indeed Galactus' herald in the Hercules mini-series.

Curious to know how that came about. Also, having read the Iron Man / War Machine 'Hands of the Mandarin' trade, I'm curious to know how Hercules' Recorder pal ended up on Earth with a bunch of Avengers.

Are you free for a pizza any Saturday in January??
Edit: Oh, so is the Hercules mini-series not in mainstream continuity?

How go the Simonson Thor volumes Martin?

How go the Simonson Thor volumes Martin? On hold, sadly, only one issue in, due to Game of Thrones season 5 coming out on Blu-ray this week, and an upcoming trip to London. I look forward to having a Thor binge on Easter weekend, however. Martin

How go the Simonson Thor volumes Martin? Just coming to the end of Volume 2. Hopefully I'll speed up now. I must say, I thought the Surtur conflict was very well paced. Lots happening on different fronts, spread over a good number of issues. Much better than the standard comic epic where a single issue is devoted to the big final battle. I love the way Marvel New York goes back to normal after an epic battle between armies of demons and Asgardians (the latter remaining at large in the city). Instead of rebuilding what should by rights be a flattened city, the Asgardians go shopping! Martin

How go the Simonson Thor volumes Martin? Thor, Frog of Thunder! I really want to see the rats lose this war to the frogs. I have just recently begun hearing something scurrying around in my attic. Can't see any droppings or anything else, but most of the loft is inaccessible due to loft insulation and lack floorboards. I've put some poisoned bait around the hatch and a battery-powered ultrasonic thing that mice apparently hate. Hopefully that will scare them off and the bait will not be needed. Anyway, up the frogs! Down the rats! Martin

Ah yes.
A classic period of comics, still the undisputed pinnacle of Thor is the Simonson era, nothing comes close.

Oh yes, when they get their groove it is fantastic, but Simonson is untouchable.

I think some of the 70's stuff is worse, but yeah JMS was not a good fit for Thor.

70's was probably just as bad but at least there was plenty of reading in them. JMS Thor had very few words. Not much happened very slowly. That's also when the bad Thor design came in with HIS GIANT THICK NECK.

How go the Simonson Thor volumes Martin? Finished! What a glorious cycle of five books! 10 out of 10. But puzzled how issue #382 manages to be the 300th anniversary issue... Martin

Thor's first appearance is Journey into Mystery 83. Journey into Mystery gets renamed Thor at issue 100 and not very much. So Thor 383 is the 300th Thor issue.
Really glad you enjoyed these, they're a favourite.

Martin is returning my Thor Simonson run tomorrow.
What should I send him away with?
The Rest of Miller Daredevil? Byrne FF? Byrne Alpha Flight?

Martin left with the remaining 2 Miller Daredevil Visionarues + Born Again and the Simonson FF volumes some of which he'd already read in a Death's Head trade.

I was hoping Volume 1 of Walt Simonson's FF would be as over-the-top bonkers as his Thor, and it didn't disappoint.
