I think it's Rom.

Hulk is accepted by superherodom! A happy ending! Surely nothing bad can happen to him now, and I don't need to read the next one and a bit trades...?
Seven issues into Rom, slow going.

Progress now being made on Hulk: Regression. I have just had my first encounter with... MODOK!!! Criminy, what strange substance had the creators been taking when they cooked up this handsome fellow??? And now... MS MODOK?!?!?
This series is packed chock full of colourful characters, all with moral strengths and weaknesses, none of them totally unsympathetic... and a lot of humour too. Love it!
Alas, poor Abomination. So how long does he stay dead before Marvel bring him back?

Not long.
The Ms Modok issue was one of the first marvel comics I read from a batch my dad brought me home from work. You'll have read Uncanny X-Men 176 from the same batch, Cyclops vs the Octopus.
It is absolutely barking mad. The double page spread of Ms Modok's reveal is amazing.
One of my favourite Marvel comics ever.

The Mantlo era Hulk is one of the two golden ages of Hulk material. The other being the Peter David run. I only wish PAD had managed to hold onto his artists for longer than he did. The Hulk ended up being something of a launchpad for artists to go on to bigger and better things - McFarlane, Keown, Frank, Deodato...

Now got to Hulk #298. It's all brilliant storytelling, but AAARRRGGGHHH! Stupidity of stupid human laws. Only ten pages of issue #296 are printed, because Rom appears on the other twelve pages! AAARRRGGGHHH! And the text feature telling the reader what happens on the missing pages can't mention Rom or the Dire Wraiths by name, and just refers to them as an alien cyborg and his shape-shifting enemies. And it's such an important part of the Hulk story arc that we don't get to see! And then in the next issue, to add to the absurdity, Rom (the comic) is mentioned twice by name in editorial notes. And I'm _sure_ I've read other Marvel trades where the Dire Wraiths are mentioned by name. AAARRRGGGHHH! HULK SMASH!!!

Oh bum, did I forget to give you my copy of Hulk 296 with that trade? sorry :-(
And you have: X-Men late 180s, Avengers: Kang Time & again. Though the recent lawsuit may have an impact on Marvel's ability to reprint these in the future.

Oh bum, did I forget to give you my copy of Hulk 296 with that trade? sorry :-( No need to apologise, Phil, it's all a bonus to me. I haven't paid money for these trades - I'm just raging on behalf of those who have paid for them, for the stupidity of laws that result in such a blemish on what is otherwise a superb book. Martin

Yay! Looked up Hulk: Crossroads, and as it's what comes after what I've just read, it's exactly what I want to read. If it is to the same standard as Pardoned and Regression, that's a bonus.
No idea about the Vision books.

The Vision books were published last year. Superb stuff. Just as long as you don't mean Vision Quest / Darker Than Scarlet as I got them as pocketbooks. Martin

Oh yes - Mantlo is one of THE two Hulk writers. Him and Peter David.
The character has never been as impressive in the hands of others.

If all is well (tummy, teeth, general standing up) I'm hoping to have lunch with Martin on Saturday. So it's time for another round of "what shall we get Martin to read?" So far we have forced on him Miller Daredevil Simonson FF Simonson Thor Vision Mantlo Hulk Mantlo Rom (to 66) and off his own back Claremont X-Men New Mutants Stern Avengers So what should he read next?

Phil, do you have Ro-Busters? I think Martin would like that. Or 2000AD Dan Dare?
