What 2000AD does Phil have to expand Martin's comic horizons? Do you have The Ballad of Halo Jones? Ace Trucking?

I Have:
All the Case Files an all the floppy Rebellion trades
I have the case file equivalents for Robo Hunter, Rogue Trooper, Strontium Dog & Ace Trucking Co.
I have floppies of Halo Jones (Liz's, tea stained), Harry 20 & Future Shocks/Time Twisters. I have the old Titan DR & Quinch's Totally Awesome Guide To Life.

My Excalibur Epic Collection has arrived! That's another possibility which would fit with his X-Reading.

If you have it then I would second The Ballad of Halo Jones if Liz is amenable to it being lent.

Very interested in your thoughts on Excalibur. Probably one of my favourite superhero comic series. Andy Only read the origin special so far. Captain Britain has yet to justify his existence to me. Martin

Captain Britain is grand, in Excalibur he's slightly different, but then when solo characters suddenly becoming part of a team they should be awkward and not a good fit at times. Something too few comic writers really do when random teams are assembled.

Have finished reading Excalibur Epic Vol. 1. Sorry to say the series hasn't really grabbed me yet. I like some of the silliness, but the characters who aren't ex-X-Men have not yet made me care about what happens to them. I can't work out what the team's purpose or long-term plan is either, or even whether it has an agreed leader. From his origin story, it doesn't even appear that Captain Britain is a mutant.
Finished Rom. Glad I stuck with it to the end. Hit and miss in places, but a satisfying story in the round. Can't believe I've read 75 issues plus annuals! Wow.
Beginning Alpha Flight now.

No, Cap is not a mutant, and the lack of a defined leader is a story point that will be addressed over the course of the series. Cap clearly thinks he should be the leader.
As for it's purpose - it's the X-Men equivalent of the Giffen/DeMatteis Justice League (which if you haven't read we need to sort you out with) where it realises there is an inherent absurdness to superheroes and has fun with it. Given we were in the grim n gritty post Dark Knight Returns era and Watchmen was just ending when Excalibur started iirc it makes for a nice counterpoint.

Remind me when you visit and we can cure that.
Martin has the three Byrne volumes, th first tn issues of which were in Secret Wars UK. The best stuff. Which issue have you got to Martin?

On issue #11. I thought 'Snowblind' was a cunning one-off comic device. Easy money for the artist!

I remember being angry at the time when it was printed in Secret Wars UK. Why were they blank panels in my comic? It was only when I re-read it a few years later that I got the joke. Even the 'next issue' preview in SW UK had pointed out the gag which had flown over my head at the time.

Some doubt over whether Phil's going to get them back, if our diaries fail to yield an appropriate date for handover...

I had already selected my four volumes when Phil stuck those ones in my hand and ordered me to pose for a photograph without any explanation. I thought maybe I was being taken hostage and the TPBs were the Phil equivalent of holding up a newspaper with a particular date on it to show when the photo was taken... or something. Only afterwards did he explain the significance.
Next time, perhaps!
