And escaping by means of a sausage roll. Martin Should any of these moves end up putting you on your face on the floor then you need to swiftly utilise the apple turnover. Karl And deliver a painful kick upwards at your standing opponent, also known as a butternut squash. Martin

I said "such as", not "including". The examples I gave may not have actually appeared in the script... and my memory is hazy as to whether there were any Kung-Fu Penguins. Edit: I can't believe you're nitpicking my Penguin Elbow but letting Goldfish Kick pass without comment. Sorry, that was a bit more deadpan than intended. I didn't think you were being serious. For Kung-Fu Penguins, see the Madagascar films. Lethal. As are fish. One Cat and his Cod in Thundercats teaches us that fish can kick hard.

Sorry, that was a bit more deadpan than intended. I didn't think you were being serious. Whew! That's a relief. Interesting, I was unaware of either of those. I was thinking of the original Kung-Fu Penguins that appeared in the Transformers comic (and before that, Action Force): Martin

I see! One Cat and His Cod was the half page humour strip in Thundercats UK. It started out being drawn by Lew Stringer but written by Ian Rimmer, and it wasn't anywhere near as funny as Combat Colin or even Robo Capers. Not long into its run the art was taken over by Nick Abadzis because I suspect Stringer had enough on his plate with Robo Capers and Colin. It was rubbish really. The Madagascar penguins were the funniest thing in the films. Breakout stars who got their own TV series. Espionage and martial arts experts.

I'm guessing there was no trip to the cinema this weekend at Swincon and thus the infamous Hot Dog Kick could not be properly deployed on or by anyone.

I dunno, 85 issues in and I don't think I've taken a serious dislike to any of them. Even the Hercules filler issue has a certain charm. Anyway, it beats overly serious Iron Fist!

Yesterday I read Defenders #62-65 - the Dollar Bill documentary and its aftermath. Every time I think I've read the silliest Marvel superhero story out there, it seems there's an even sillier one waiting just around the corner...

This week I read the Avengers: Infinity War Prelude trade ( www.amazon.co.uk/Marvels-Avengers-Infinity-War-Prelude/dp/1302909436 ) containing two MCU stories, one linked to Civil War, the other with Wong giving Dr Cumberbatch the lowdown on all the Infinity Stones, together with some other stuff - Infinity #1, in which I was surprised to see the Spaceknights make an appearance, and a Thanos annual in which the big T meets himself from the future. Back to Essential Defenders this afternoon. Martin

I've finished Essential Defenders 4 at last, Leaving Volume 1 still. I'm going slow, not fast! The Mandrill is a super-villain who Would struggle to find favour in the MCU.

Sub-Mariner is incredibly annoying. Later team much better.

Martin is due to visit Saturday: what shall we lend him?
Since he has just read Avengers/Defenders I am tempted to inflict the Epic containing that and the following Avengers stories plus Celestial Madonna which follows that.

Have you got (presumably in black & white Essentials) the Avengers run #197-211, which I don't think has been reprinted in colour trades? I've got and read TPBs containing 50+ issues either side of that run, but never those 15 issues, and I'm curious as to what they contain...

Ooh, thank you, Phil. Have you read Avengers Annual 10 which is roughly in that run? It doesn't appear to be in 'Heart of Stone' or 'The Trial of Yellowjacket' (the TPBs on either side of the run) so probably not. Martin

Somewaht significant, an event in it is rather critical/pivotal in certain characters lives. You may well have seen it referenced from time to time in footnotes. We'll do the mad backstory behind why after you've read it, remind us please. I've stuck that in the pile in what I believe is the correct position. Written by Chris Claremont, of X-Men fame, with fab Michael Golden art. My first copy of it back in the 80s cost a few quid IIRC! Don't anyone tell him what happens in it!
