Saw it today now that I am feeling better enough to sit in my chair and watch some television. Really enjoyed it. Managed to wrong-foot a few of my expectations along the way, which I really enjoyed. I like this version of Pike as well - the folksy-charm really works for him, but I think there is an interesting undercurrent of guilt and sadness there. There was a war, people he knew - peers, friends - likely died in it, but he had to sit it out. That was an interesting beat which came up a few times in different ways. I'm interested to see where they go with the character.
I was wierded out by whatever it was that Burnham saw on the crashed ship a bit - but mostly because it shares some elements of its design with Star Trek:Online's version of the Iconians. I won't turn out to be I'm sure, but just for a second my brain did a whatwhatwhatwhat?

Enjoyed 2.2. Liking what appears to be this season's theme.

That was good! _very_ traditional, but did a good job of being a satisfying episode while moving the arc on.
On the one hand, glad to see the spore drive in action again, on the other it hasn't even been an episode since it looked like it was being mothballed which makes it feel a bit cheap.
I like how the characters all seem "warmer" than last season, enjoying themselves post-war / Lorca. It's never explicit, but it's there and it's a nice touch.
Nice to see Frakes at the helm, and he does a good job.
I didn't notice it in episode 1 but the title sequence seems tweaked; this is one of the few series on Netflix where I don't skip it, the atmosphere of it and the music have grown on me enormously.

Enjoyed it too. Script so much tighter and more under control than 2.1. Much less bloating. And a 'Classic' Earth analogue 'planet of the week' episode. Very pleasing. The science/religion stuff was both ham fisted in places and nicely done in others. Wasn't General Order 1 violated by saving the planet?

Enjoyed episode 3 less... I much prefer last week's style to these moving-the-pieces-around kind of episodes. It wasn't _bad_, and I'm happy to see Tyler again, but it felt a bit shapeless, like the season opener but without the excitement.

Not as solid as the first two but decent enough. A shame that what should have been a surprise was blown in the season trailer.
A certain character had terrible hair throughout! Sort that out, space chum!

A random thought occurs: just imagine if the Red Angel turns out to be the "friendly angel" from TOS 'And the Children shall Lead'!
Though my money is still on it being linked to the creature at the centre of the galaxy that lured Sybok to it in Trek V.

Five episodes into s2 and still a strong season thus far. Only thing irking me is the feeling a certain subplot is being constantly teased rather than going anywhere.
Otherwise though I think it's terrific stuff. The tone feels more constant.

Burnham is far less annoying this season. I think they have listened to feedback from the fans.

Just caught up with the fifth episode, and again enjoyed it a lot! So now we have both Tyler and Culber back on the crew. The way they're contriving to put the s1 crew back together I wouldn't be surprised to find out Discovery's new captain at the season conclusion is Lorca, back from the mirror universe...
I'm not complaining though, I especially liked Tyler and both actors put in engaging performances. Speaking of which I'm really enjoying Pike, he's really very likable. If Spock turns out to be as good I could honestly hope for another spin-off set on the Enterprise.

2.6. That was great stuff. That was a bit 'skin of evil' like right from the first visual on the black pool. Interesting... And I'm not sure on the ethics of what Saru did to his people.

Done two episodes. Like this; feels like Star Trek now. Better than the first season.

Thought #6 was the first dud of the season. Poorly paced and someone needed to tell the director to calm the fuck down.

I enjoyed it, but it was not quite clear why it suddenly became okay for them to interfere.
Was this the first episode of the season not to unre-retcon something?

Have to agree with Ralph, especially re: the direction, it was all a bit overwrought and the camera seemed to spend the whole episode moving rapidly while tilted. The Red Angel fixing everything seemed a bit easy, too? I'm giving the benefit of the doubt as it is an ongoing mystery, but from the perspective of an individual episode it didn't work well for me.
Culber's reaction to his resurrection was probably the most interesting thing here, I look forward to where they go with that.
In fact I'm generally much more invested in the hinted character drama here than the A plot - Tyler's paranoia, how Pike feels about not taking part in the war, etc.

The constant deferment of the Spock plot is my only issue with s2. "Where is he? We don't know!" has become increasingly tiresome as the weeks go by.

Maybe he's been in sort-of-plain-sight all along The last episode, much as I found it weak, made me wonder if the Red Angel might actually be Spock? Especially now that there's some time travel angle to it, and it seems to be in some kind of space gear. The angel's apparent concern for Michael might speak to that as well.
I don't keep up with any Trek fandom and I would be surprised if this hasn't been floated and picked apart already...

I have thought that myself!
No idea what Trek Fandom online thinks. I moved away from it when Discovery launched as much of the chat was pretty toxic. I keep up with a few decent news sites but stay clear of the comments sections!

I saw the idea floated recently on some news sites who probably derived it from fan sites as Spock had *red* matter before, therefore... RED ANGEL.

I saw the idea floated recently on some news sites who probably derived it from fan sites as {Spoiler} Spock had *red* matter before, therefore... RED ANGEL. A comment in that news about Frakes directing Picard {Spoiler}They suggested the angel is Picard. Using the link as a set up for his new show.
Its ridiculous and yet....
What if Picard was helping Spock when the star went Nova and was time travelling attempting to find Spock. .... and now has gone all Quantum Leaping for some reason I guess. Its dumb and yet would certainly be an unexpected set up.

No no no. As I have said before the Red Angel is clearly related to the Friendly Angel. The whole series is a prequel to 'And The Children Shall Lead'!

The red angel will be something to do with Pike and the Talosians. They will not be able to help themselves.

I loved DS9 and TNG, and yet hated Voyager and Enterprise- so I'm guessing I'm not that typical of a Trek fan.
