Yes, I like Vance as well! With the way Picard / Discovery are written I've not been expecting him to survive the season, but fingers crossed he makes it through. Is there supposed to be some mystery around the identity of the Federation president, or did I miss a detail earlier in the season? They seem to be conspicuously off-screen, but I wasn't sure if we were supposed to take it that Vance is all there is.
I started to wonder with this episode, when Michael sent the message to her mum, if we're going to be moving to a time jump every season as the crew watches the Federation get back on its feet and helps out in key crisis moments. Though I'm not sure whether that would be more or less interesting than hanging around in 3189.
This is the point I've gotten to. I have come to the conclusion there is no Federation President. I'm also not fond of the (seemingly) unintentionally sinister undertones to Starfleet. I get it that they're cynical and pragmatic, but it's been coming off as almost hiding a sinister secret, instead of an organization that's been deeply wounded and traumatized, weary of outsiders, and lost it's hope. And as the season goes on, I think this is unintentional.

So I finished. Apparently I had one episode left when I stopped last night (S1 and 2 puts the last two episodes on the last disk). Had I known, I'd have just finished. · I hate hate HATE that ridonkulous turbolift fight scene. Do turboluft shafts utilize TARDIS technology??? That just completely destroyed all believability. To have that much free space in between the walls and decks, Disco would have to absolutely dwarf a Borg Cube! I rationalized these weird scenes in Season 1 as basically a visual inversion of negative space to make elevator scenes look more dynamic. But I guess they really believe 300 meter Sapce-Subs have that much unused space inside them.
· I'm glad I was right about the sinister undertones to Starfleet being accidental.
· I like Vance, and I'm glad he survived.
· I'm fairly certain that the writers were prepared for Disco to be axed at the end of Season 2 and Season 3. Both endings seem pretty open ended stopping points.
· I hope Season 4 we get to go onboard the rainforest disk ship.
· I would hope that we'll get an explanation of how disconnected nacelles work (and get power) in season 4, but these are the writers that give us infinite elevator space, and parasitic ice.
· I really like the touch that it was the Romulans who didn't want to leave the Federation.

Well, in theory so long as two requirements are met, there's no reason they need to be physically attached.
Those requirements being 1. There is an energy exchange between them and the ship (we have wireless energy exchange abilities now, and have since Tesla. I don't really understand it, but it's apparently feasible enough they could do in inthe 19th century) 2. There is a believable force tying them to the ship.
I would have an easier time accepting them if they were only detached when at warp. Otherwise it seems like an excessive power drain to generate whatever is required to keep them in place while the ship is in maneuvers.

TBF it is used in a plot point at one stage.... though initially I thought they were inside the Nacelle at the crucial moment and was thinking "hang on how have they done that if the nacelle is no longer attached?"

Can see more and more of this as content settles at various streaming platforms over the next few years. Indeed. The move does not surprise me but the timing leaves a lot to be desired. Talk about pissing in the faces of their fanbase. Promote your show for months then 2 days before it airs tell your international audience they can watch it...sometime. Even just giving a date for when Paramount Plus launches here would have helped. Would have been a better way to handle it. -Ralph

VPN plug in for your broswer and a paramount plus subscription... *cough* Talk to me... -Ralph Currently using browsec on Firefox, it's how I managed to watch the Cyberverse vid from YT. To sign up to paramount plus you will need to purchase something like a digital Paramount Plus gift card from a Walmart. This will be emailed to you, and after you've connected to a US server with your VPN, you can use that to pay for Paramount Plus wherever you are. You can do the same with creating a google/apple id basing it in the US and then purchase a goofke play or itunes gift card. Bit of a faff I know.

Paramount clearly paid Netflix off and then wanted to renegoiate the distro deal.

Something is definitely amiss. Season 4 had been promoted for months as available on Netflix outside US and Canada as recently as last weekend.

I am buggered if I can find a schedule or where the 'sci-fi channel' is on the Pluto TV website, Yes, I know it's on Roku but my parents don't have that and want to watch Discovery.

It's funny, I would absolutely have watched the first episode straight away had it aired on Netflix as originally scheduled, but I'm struggling to drum up any enthusiasm for watching it several days later on some other service and might just drop it.
Even though there was stuff I liked in S3, I still find it a deeply flawed show (why are all my favourite characters not part of the main crew? why can't I even name most of the crew? why do most of the actually interesting characters get killed off?) and these shenanigans might have been enough to finally sever my tenuous connection to it.
In all honesty, the Paramount+ news irks me most because it might mean Voyager disappearing before I can finish my watchthrough.

Oh no. I hadn't thought of that. I'm still in Season 3 of DS9, slowly moving toward the point I stopped watching it in the 90s. If they pull all the trek from Netflix just as I get to the start of Season 4 and it escapes me for a second time I will...
Well, to be fair at this point I'll probably put the DVDs on my Christmas list.

I would say it's 100% likely the other Trek shows will be pulled from Netflix at some point in the near future and moved to Paramount Plus. I really should get shiny discs of some of this shows.
Don't be surprised if Picard S2 turns up on Pee Plus.
RE: PLuto TV. That website is a migraine. Where is the Sci-Fi channel on it where Disco will be??
