Pacific Rim 2: no redeeming features of any kind. My expectations were low but they were not met. Possibly one of the shittest films I have ever seen in a cinema. -Ralph Charlie Day is in it, isn't he? I like him.

His turn is in this is one of the most awful pieces of acting I have ever seen in any medium. It's jaw dropping for all the wrong reasons. Was the director asleep?

Ready Player One was quite poor. Maybe good for young kids but just nothing to it. There was an opportunity here to do a film that could have worked on multiple levels and delivered an entertaining thrill ride while commenting on a very topical issue of our times. As it didn't, the last line of the film completely flops.
But...the film settled for pish. Doesn't help that the finale relies on the audience having a detailed knowledge of the games library of a console from about 40 years ago. Otherwise the nostalgia elements don't get in the way, to be fair. The racing bit was quite good fun at least.
It did irk me also how Silvestri's score kept wanting to break into the Back To The Future overture but didn't. Also a head scratcher is that the film's hero who is obsessed with pulp culture in a game built by someone obsessed with pulp culture never thinks to use HIS VEHICLE'S ONE SPECIAL AND VERY FAMOUS POP CULTURE ABILITY which could have solved the plot in five minutes! So what was the point of giving the character that car then??? I kept expecting it to do The Thing.
And don't even start me on a character being presented as 'disfigured/disabled' when it is a very mild bit of make-up which is usually obscured or strangely vanishes (it also vanishes on the film poster!). Sort of undermines the point that was trying to be made!
AGH! THIS FILM!
You can do better, Spielberg! Much better!

1. Molly's Game 2. Black Panther 3. The Post 4. Tomb Raider 5. Darkest Hour 6. Ready Player One7. Pacific Rim Uprising 8. The Commuter Ready Player One felt like a film made for a teen audience, except that the retro stuff was from our generation, and the swearing and horror stuff weren't suitable for kids. So yeah, a bit of a misfire. And I agree with Ralph's point about the supposedly disfigured girl. The hero was very lucky - in the real world the 'girl' he fell in love with in VR would probably turn out to be an ugly old bloke called Derek in real life. But I would be in favour of the whole Internet being closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Martin

It has not been a good year so far for fun tosh films. Despite being based on a rubbish 80's computer game (Ralph had the Spectrum version back in the day), RAMPAGE should have been a winner. Giant monsters + The Rock...but it was awful. Crushingly dull and boring and one of those rare films where you can see the cast visibly struggling to raise the material. Really bad.
So straight afterwards I saw Black Panther again and my faith in cinema was restored.

The trailers for Tomb Raider, Ready Player One and Pacific Rim uprising gave me sufficient hope of silly entertainment that I went to see the films, but the trailer for Rampage did not, so I won't.

A QUIET PLACE is not a film for logic but is made for atmosphere and mood. The advertising campaign even warns audiences about making noise during the film (it is silent or near silent for much of the length). Unfortunately, a disruptive and noisy audience at my screening meant the atmosphere was destroyed so I found myself focusing on the plot, which had many inwardly guffawing logic gaps of mind staggering intensity. The resolution is right up there in Stupid Land with 'Water kills them!' in 'Signs'.

Looking at Boxofficemojo, I see that in the US cinema charts we have a movie about comic characters Thanos at #1 and Black Panther at #5. If only I could travel back in time to show this data to certain teenage bullies. Vindication at last.

I just need one more like this to go with 'Solo' and 'Rogue One', and I can call them Episodes I-III, and have six good consecutive Star Wars episodes, which I will treat as the complete Star Wars saga, hurrah! And Solo definitely appears to have set itself up for a sequel of sorts.

Yeah very good with a {Spoiler}Clone Wars cartoon tie in that I never expected to see back in the movies. I honestly am wondering what the hell half the audience are making of it. I still want to see how this would have looked with the original directors but there really are no complaints with what we've got.

Enjoyed Deadpool 2 this morning. They seem to have rowed back slightly on the 'in your face' gross out moments which really helps it. My imagination is good enough to fill in the blanks myself. Less is more etc. Crosswinds and team X-Force... genius. And some good ribbing of other superhero franchises. MARTHA! The scenes in the credits were fun too, although Andy should not see the last one unaccompanied.

The Greatest Showman Pitch Perfect 3 Paddington 2 Darkest Hour Molly's Game Jumanjii 2 Maze Runner Black Panther Red Sparrow (Imax) Black Panther (Imax) Game Night - Surprisingly funny. Ready Player One Pacific Rim - a sequelly sequel Rampage - saw it twice as I needed to pass some time in Dublin. Entertaining nonsense. Infinity War - Yay!!! Deadpool 2 - a better film than the first but but maybe not as good. I can't decide. Domino is great though. Solo - A perfectly entertaining film. Totally unessential though. The disappointing box office is really disappointing as this is the first film to delve in to the new expanded universe and its easy to see the spin offs that would have happened if it had been a hit. Now that all seems up in the air. Incredibles 2 - This weeks Cineworld secret screening. Very good, but somehow... I don't know, feels like a generic sequel. Very good but could have been churned out a decade ago. Kind of expected more for something so long to arrive. Super Troopers 2 - Another sequel late to arrive. I only saw the first one on Netflix yesterday, if you liked that you should like this.

My problem with Solo (and I must emphasise, I haven't actually seen it, this is just what I've been given to understand through internet osmosis) is that if this was a film about Han Solo being dashing and zipping about the place having adventures, then yes. I am down. Sit me in front of, I will watch. But I have no interest in watching a film that's showing us the things that the OT already told us happened.
Other folks may enjoy that, but it's not for me.

To be honest thats not really what its about. Theres a few references but within the context of this story they arent that important.
Thats not to say the film doesnt have is flaws, but I dont think the film has bombed because people dont like it but because they werent convinced to go see it.
hopefully thats disneys take away from this. Just because its star wars don't assume people will automatically turn up in droves. Especially when its not an episode film and whenthe only noise about the film has been behind the scenes turmoil.

Thats not to say the film doesnt have is flaws, but I dont think the film has bombed because people dont like it but because they werent convinced to go see it. I mean, that's the simple answer but I see everyone scrambling around for a more complex conspiracy answer that 'the other side' somehow sabotaged it. No-one wanted a Han Solo film without Harrison Ford. That's it. Nothing more complicated than that. Now Disney are running about changing all their plans in a knee-jerk reaction. Which is silly I mean, I can actually see people wanting an Obi-Wan Kenobi film with Ewan. Don't cancel that, Disney!!!!

Yeah almost everyone seems to have liked ewan and would be glad to see him in a couple of decent films, especially as hes one of thw few characters who does have a genuine gap in his story.
To be fair though the guy playing han isnt the problem either, like you say people want harrison ford.
