This one should be easy: Cyclonus looks like a futuristic plane, Scourge doesn't.
Cyclonus all the way

I'm dismissing Cyclonus's Targetmaster tech-specs, because they give him speed 11, courage 11 and firepower 5, and I'm dismissing Targetmaster Scourge because it gives him endurance 6, which does not make much sense in the 'Target: 2006' context.
So, going with the sensible ratings (original Cyclonus and Scourge), they have nearly identical tech-spec ratings. They both have strength 8, intelligence 8, speed 9, courage 9, firepower 8 and skill 8. I think Cyclonus pips Scourge on rank (9 rather than 8) and possibly also on endurance, though without a tech-specs decoder I'm not 100% sure on that.
Anyway, they are both eights and nines on everything and pretty evenly matched.

This one should be easy: Cyclonus looks like a futuristic plane, Scourge doesn't. Cyclonus all the way Scourge the toy doesn't claim to turn into a plane, it's only the catalogue that classes him as such. His instruction leaflets describe him as an "attack vehicle", his Transformers Universe entry says "He can transform to a scouring vehicle, a marauding automotive mode which handles any terrain and scans for 'survivors.'" His Targetmaster tech-specs describe him as a hunter-seeker, land-scouring vehicle with a maximum speed of 260 mph. But the cartoons and comics have decided that he can also fly. I don't know who to vote for. I like both their vehicle modes but don't think much of their robot modes. Martin

Tricky one. Cyclonus the better plane, Scourge the better robot...

Tricky one. Cyclonus the better plane, Scourge the better robot... I'd agree with that assessment. Cyclonus's head reminds me of the Duchess's hat from Lewis Carroll. Good for hanging washing on, not so good for low doorways. Martin

Having just missed out on Target: 2006 and not seeing the movie young Gavin thought Scourge was a land based hovercraft until his next comic appearence had him zipping about the skies.

Pretty sure in the original movie script, Scourge was a hovercraft

SCOURGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
Loved mine back in the day. FAB TOY AND NO ONE WILL SAY OTHERWISE OR DIE.
I recall many years later finally seeing a Cyclonus out of a box and being so disappointed. Robot mode looked rubbish and the arms fell off if you looked at them.

Ah, a bit more of a challenge this week. I like both. I remember getting Scourge from a secondary school fayre, no idea when I got Cyclonus.
Think I'm going to level the playing field by going with the pointy one. He's much more poseable.

Scourge is the first Shellformer so an easy vote for the other option here. Plus Cyclonus has the better vehicle mode.

SCOURGE HAS AN EVIL BEARD AND A DEATH RAY ON HIS HEAD.
And he can store his gun in vehicle mode!

Scourge was the one I had as a child, and he was supurb. But Cyclonus's jet mode inspired much envy in me. I've never owned an original Cyclonus, but when I saw the toy for the fist time the robot was very disappointing. He had no hands!
It always bothers me when a toy has simply molded the shape of the top of the fist in place of hands.

I'm torn also. I had Cyclonus, and he was a great figure, apart from the arms think. But I always liked the look of Scourge, and I always considered him as some kind of a space-going vehicle. They've both got fantastically evil looking faces. It's funny, how these futuristic vehicles I have no problem with, whereas the futuristic Autobot cars did nothing for me.
I may have to vote Cyclonus. Both great toys, but he just pips it.

Putting all hysteria aside for a moment when I finally got some hands-on experience with a Cyclonus toy I found it to be mindcrushingly disappointing. As well as falling apart easily it was utterly awful in every way. It has no redeeming features. I like the character though!
It may be the worst 'G1' mould of all.
The Generations Cyclonus was fab though! Great mould.

As much as I absolutely love Cyclonus' character and design in the comics, movie and cartoons - the original toy is rubbish. He is very flat and transforms by tucking his legs and making his hat bigger.
Scourge is the much better toy in my opinion and he was the first toy to have a beard.

Agreed I remember fandom used to wax lyrical about how wonderful the Cyclonus toy is, but it only is in spaceship mode. sure the legs are neat, and the arm transformation is cool, but you're left with a flat head and big club arms. Scourge is far superior.

It's weird - he looks great in pictures and everything - it even looks good on display. But in hand the actual toy in both modes is just not that good. If the face were hidden in jet mode and the cockpit windows a little more pronounced it would be better.

Both are about as disappointing as g1 transformers of that size get. Scourge is probably the better of the two, but thats not saying much.
And what was going on with cyclonus arms? Are they meant to come off?

Are they meant to come off? I've always assumed that this was in keeping with the other Decepticon jets, in that their wings were always removable. Cyclonus' just happened to transform into his arms. Speaking of which - did anyone ever switch their original Decepticon Jets wings etc. to create their own designs? I haven't - but I've never actually thought of it until now.

I know one man here who almost inevitably... wouldn't have.
Whether he knew the wings were interchangeable or not is another thing.

I owned both Cyclonus and Scourge, and 'tis true, Cyclonus's hands are a bit rubbish, although they do distract from his silly two-pointed head. His instructions ( botchthecrab.com/archive/instructions/decepticon/1986/instr_cyclonus.jpg ) note that his arms are detachable, but give no reason as to why anyone would wish to detach them. Riddle me this. Cyclonus's TF Universe entry ( www.ntfa.net/universe/english/index.php?act=view&char=Cyclonus ) says "Cyclonus is capable of an additional transformation, trimming his wings and tail back to assume a space-worthy rocket mode for interstellar pursuit and warfare." What does this mean, toy-wise? There is no third mode in his instructions. Martin
