Captain America: Civil War
It's Howard v2 again. This time with a de-aged Robert Downey Jr. Marvel really have made great use of this effect.
How did they manage to make this single (admittedly long) film work as Iron Man 4 and Avengers 3 while never forgetting it was actually Captain America 3?
And just for fun serving as introduction for probably the biggest name in Marvel Comics and the lead of what would become the biggest Comic book movie ever.
Not just that, all 3 films and 2 intros are damn fine films.
I mean .... how?
Alright the exact plan of the bad guy is convoluted in ways that make my brain hurt and oddly, the Avengers are suddenly being blamed for Aliens invading New York and a secret facist organisation hiding inside another secret organisation since the 1940s.
Still the conflicts resulting from all... that is engrossing.
Tony Stank. hehe!

Marvel needs to do a movie starring Michael Pena, and Kat Dennings. I would absolutely be behind a bunch of films starring all the non superpowered, brainiac, secret agents of the MCU. Hogan, Darcy, Luis, er Peter Parkers friends.... er... we might have to dip in to the Netflix series here. But yeah a Romcom, a roadtrip movie, buddy movie, action movie, something a bit more serious, a Napoleon Dynamite oddball effort. Basically its time to bring back Edgar Wright and have him bring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost with him.

Doctor Strange I like the ending for being something different, but the rest remains ever so slightly underwhelming for such a visually spectacular film.
Exemplified by stans guy on bus cameo.

Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2
Despite watching it less frequently than volume 1 I do still think volume 2 is better in most respects. Its not just because Karen Gillan is in it more this time. Not that that fact hurts it at all.
Though it does have a bad habit of dragging out jokes longer than it should.
Double Stan cameo.

I really got tired of drax constantly telling mantis that she's ugly. That honestly is my only real complaint.

GOTG2 By far the weakest of the MCU films for me. Felt like one overextended gag that had already outlived its natural lifespan.
Loved Doctor Strange.

It does seem to be the Marmite MCU film.
Spider-Man: Homecoming Aside from the weird continuity glitch they opted to created by putting "8 years later" in there (why? why do that? Anything from about 3 to 6 years could have ben accomodated without much hassle, but 8?), theres not a lot to complain about.
Nice that it provided a neat little wrap up for Tony's story.
Friendly Neighbourhood Stan.

Nnnnnughhhh! I'm running out of time!
It's my own fault I should have realised that not being able to finish a film wasn't a good enough reason not to start it.
But its also Bill Baileys fault for putting on a show just when I should have been watching Winter Soldier.

So much joy. Nothing to dislike here.
Creepy Old Man Stan cameo.

Black Panther
no legal way to rewatch prior to Infinity Wars start time, but I only watched it recently and made sure to recap it.
I'm still a little torn on just how good the film is. Its great, but best of the MCU great, I'm not sure. Can you seperate the cultural importance of a film from the physical mechanics of the film? I don't know, probably not.
Angry long lost heir to throne claims throne and must be stopped is pretty by the numbers and I still find the traditions of Wakanda strangely at odds with what is shown of their wider society. Trial by combat for the throne however ritualistic it has become just seems out of place. Pacing is also not quite perfect.
Non of that detracts from either the enjoyability of the film or its many positive messages. Still top 5 of MCU I just dont know if it's actually as good as the box office suggests.
Largely regulation low key stan cameo.

Thor I cant believe how different Asgard looks in this. Its very serious and thor is very blonde. I love the look of the first Thor. It's Asgard feels like it deserves the name of The Golden Realm, gilded buildings glistening in the sun. It is probably one of the most Kirby-esque things I've seen so fat in a Marvel Studios film. Interesting that you see it as very serious, because one of the things that strikes me is how funny it is. Considering that it has as its central spine Odin finally accepting that his son is arrogant and a bit of a %$^* and exiling him until he learns better, there are a lot of funny scenes in this. Thor getting stunned by things (taser, Chelsea Tractor...), Thor bringing the blind-drunk Selvig home, "one of those big enough to ride"... It strikes me as a much funnier film than Iron Man or Captain America Jane might not have been that well served by the two films but its still a shame Portman hasn't been back as she puts in decent performances both times. Can she be the next Thor please? Good excuse to bring back Darcy too. Portman is now out of contract I believe, and if that is the case they haven't got any way of forcing her to return so I doubt that you'll see her return. Darcy it would be fairly easy to bring back, indeed - just having her return because she is in the wrong place at the wrong time and tumbles into an adventure wouldn't be out of character for her. As to Hawkeye: I kind of feel sorry for him. He is rather the overlooked Avenger to be honest. The actor is perfectly good - heck, I'd have preferred another Bourne movie with him instead of getting Matt Damon back - but the first two Avengers films haven't really been that kind of him in terms of giving him something interesting to do. (On the other hand, that also means that he didn't get thrown something excruciating like _that_ scene that Scarlett Johanson had in Age of Ultron either). Karl

Angry long lost heir to throne claims throne and must be stopped is pretty by the numbers and I still find the traditions of For me I would say that it has taken the joint top position along with Winter Soldier. Both of them have something they want to talk about beyond Super-people fighting each other, an actual issue that they want to engage with. I find that this gives them a little bit of heft to them that some of the other films don't quite manage. They also both have some of my favourite fight sequences in the Marvel films too - Batroc vs Cap in Winter Soldier is great in terms of character statements and showing Cap as a quick study who learns from his opponents, which helps sell the elevator fight later on. Likewise the ritual contests in Black Panther are used to make statements about the nature of the combatants as people. Karl

Thor getting stunned by things (taser, Chelsea Tractor...), Thor bringing the blind-drunk Selvig home, "one of those big enough to ride"... It strikes me as a much funnier film than Iron Man or Captain America I compressed a few different thoughts in to that one sentence. Mainly that it was not an out and out comedy like Ragnorak. But also that Thor himself is played is being played straight. Thor (mostly) doesnt intend to be funny. Thats very clearly changed by the time you ge to Ragnorak and Infinity Wars, even though the stories themselves have gotten way darker Thor is no longer as serious. I do perfer later Asgard, it looks more lived in. Though in part it may be down to the 2010 CG looking just a little overwhelmed by what its trying to bring to screen. Jane might not have been that well served by the two films but its still a shame Portman hasn't been back as she puts in decent performances both times. Can she be the next Thor please? Karl Yeah they had to drag her back to do Thor 2 and even then pissed her off by sacking /replaceing the director she wanted to work with if I remember correctly. Even so if they went female Thor she'd still be great. I don't know if Renner is under appriciated by others or if I just over appriciate him. I've liked pretty much everything Ive seen him in including The Bourne film and Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.

And post 9999 brings me to the end of my rewatch.
Avengers Infinity War
Wow! And I thought Civil War did a great job multi-tasking. Loved hearing some of the reactions in a pretty packed theatre.
Stans cameo was pretty funny.

Just watched Avengers 3 - & seen Mark Ruffalo post about filming for Avengers 4. It seems they are filming extra stuff to even confuse the actors so they don't know what is being used in the film with filming lots of extra stuff.
