Bumblebee Bumblebee is as different from Bay Bumblebee as, say, Budiansky's Grimlock is from Furman's Grimlock, or one James Bond or Doctor Who is from another James Bond or Doctor Who. It's like a character suddenly getting a different (much better) actor, writer and director. And of course he's not even the main character in the film. (Charlie is.) It redeemed TFs for discerning cinema-goers after six duds.
But I realise many fans prefer the epic struggles in space stuff to the befriending an alien robot in disguise stuff, so it's good that they are catered for too. It was just such a relief to see the Earth-based story done right at long last, so that people realised the Bay approach wasn't representative of how TF stories with humans had to be.

You WHAT! You haven't seen it either?! Put the fucking baby down and go and get the Bluray. Now. I'm not Paige Sterling anymore so I don't have to carry the baby around with me! And I'll see it when it comes on the telly! ...I don't have a Blu-ray player...

The first ever really good Transformers film is on Channel 4 tomorrow at 5.45pm. Okay, let me rephrase that to accommodate fans of TFTM: Easter Sunday 2020 will be the first time in history that a really good Transformers film has been broadcast on UK terrestrial/Freeview television. That's a big deal in my opinion. Martin

Ah yes, but Martin's saying terrestrial TV, like proper TV.
Actually, I suppose given back in the 80s it took four years for films to get to TV, by 1990 no one would have wanted to show a transformers film.

They did cut it up into three parts, and show it as part of the cartoon. I think during the Powermaster Puppet Prime run.

I am sure it was on the precursor to BskyB back in the day. I can sort-of confirm. I borrowed a VHS TV recording from a friend during the early 90s, who claimed his uncle had recorded it from BSB (the main competitor to Sky, before it was bought/merged). They did cut it up into three parts, and show it as part of the cartoon. I think during the Powermaster Puppet Prime run. Did the UK see a 3-part movie/Puppetmaster Prime? I thought that was US only.

I must admit that I have absolutely zero baseline knowledge of what cartoons aired on British television during the eighties.

Martin It did air on I believe ITV4 back in 2007 when the first live action movie hit cinemas. I did watch it but rather than a remasterd version that were about then, it was the darker VHS looking version.

I'm not really following this thread, but I'm hoping people aren't labelling the Bumblebee movie as Bayverse. It deserves better than to be categorised as such. Martin Not seen it. But I have learnt to trust the words of The Grand Moff. I will give this 'Bumblebee Movie' a chance... when it comes on the telly....

Is it extraordinarily sentimental 9 year old girl who loves Sunbow Bumblebee friendly? It's perfect. It's basically about a teenage girl's friendship with a yellow Volkswagen. It will make her cry in places, but in an E.T. way. It has been on Freeview. Edit: Not so good for 9 year old girls who love Cliffjumper, mind. Martin
