I just assumed it was Starscream for a few reasons:
1)It looks like him from the colours, the head design and even the transformation where the wings actually flip over. He even has an orange cockpit for crying out loud.
2)Travis Knight has said in countless interviews that this film is taking Transformers back to it's roots and that the designs will evoke their G1 selves more. Bumblebee is a beetle and those that have seen the Prime design say he is also very blocky like the original.
3)Starscream's design isn't thirty years old - he is still sporting this look now, in the comics, recent cartoons and the brand new one (Cyberverse) coming out.
4)Hasbro's evergreen designs are all set to keep the brand recognition the same across the different media. It's not foolish to assume the big moneymaking film would also fall in line with this.
If this isn't a reason to see a duck and think it's a duck then I'm not sure what is. I think people have a right to be a bit disappointed here. Or at least baffled.
If this were another Bay film than I would accept the usual name slap of Hot Rod onto a character that looks & acts nothing like him. But to make a robot look so much like the third iconic Transformer in the franchise and call it something else? And from from a director who has constantly stated he is a massive fan of the original toys and cartoon, this just doesn't make sense to me.

Matts, Phil - ta for walking me through the thought-process. I mean that sincerely - this is the first time I've felt like I've understood how people arrived at the conclusion. T'is much appreciated.

I still for the life of me can't see how that robot briefly featured in the trailer looks anything like any version of a robot called Starscream.

He...he was??? All I saw in the trailer was a robot plane thing. -Ralph What we mean by "yes he was XXX for a while" is the fandom assumed his identity was Starscream, and then also assumed he was Ramjet. Not that he was ever officially IDed as such.

Starscream made sense to me because:
A) As pointed out, it looks like a live action version of the G1 Seeker design (unlike Bayscream), and it's also actually in Starscream's colors (again, unlike Bayscream)
B) Redesigning him means nothing to continuity, especially of this ends up being a continuity reboot (which they keep being wishy-washy about)
C) it makes sense for Starscream to be the main villain in this movie.

I was totally on board with it being Starscream. The design is clearly meant to evoke his G1 appearance, and it seemed a really nice blend of G1 and Bayverse (from the glimpses we've had anyway). That said, I wonder if the sheer physical difference between this "Starscream" and Starscream as he's appeared in the previous movies meant someone decided it was too confusing, and thus the name was changed at a later stage. While Bee is different, he's still recognisable as the same bot from the previous films. The weirdest thing to me is to go with Blitzwing (as cool a name as it is), when there's plenty of other seekers to choose from. They should've just tweaked the CGHI to be more orange and called him Sunstorm

Well, it seems Travis Knight is actually paying attention to the transformers, paying attention to actual names, and giving them actual characters. In the past, most names were given after the fact by Hasbro, and were in the credits as stupid things like "wheelbot." While on screen, if given names at all, end up being called even stupider things like "Q" and "Dino." The few named TFs we have so far are actually credible, and indicate an attention to detail that Bay didn't care about. Meanwhile, over the last ten years, Hasbro has tried to convince us that this: This: And this: ...are all the exact same character. So if someone is worried about a redesign being confusing, I don't think it's on Hasbro's end.

Sticking FOC in with Prime confused the **** out of me. The designs look much more like modified Cybertron versions of the 1984-6 characters rather than Prime ones.
In that cases one suspects the toy designers may have had one intention which was subverted by those writing the backing material!

Aye. The game people and TFP people did not want to work together. The Game people wanted, and did make a G1 game, which wasn't Hasbro's intent.
It would have been clear to Hasbro well before they started revealing the details of Aligned, that they weren't getting what they wanted. They *should* have either forced the game people to rewrite/redesign, or else called it a loss and divorced War for Cybertron from Prime, and let the two stand on their own merits.
So, though with all that, and Hasbro's sudden "everything needs to be 100% G1" direction, I don't think they would have a problem with movie starscream being redesigned to be more G1.

Still of two minds about it. Not sure it needed to be so G1 on Cybertron. I do like that the Decepticons are trying some actual deception to get the humans to help them.

I hope to be pleasantly surprised. I'm just so bored of these films by now that Sybok from Star Trek V could pop up in a trailer and I would feel nothing,

Quite enjoyed the trailer. {Spoiler}Thought the G1 designs would have been part of a dream sequence myself just because they are so different from the established Bayverse designs, and Bumblebee still being more in keeping with that look than Soundwave and Prime and co.

Who are the full list of characters we see on Cybertron? Just looking at still images - red character jet or car (Thurst/Knockout)? Shockwave, Acidstorm, Starscream, Skywarp. Thundercracker or Slipstream in flight. Note all these character do not effect what happens in the film so they are just in a short clip. It's just 4 cons that have any interaction with Bumblebee (if Barricade is in it?)
How come Cybertron based pre Earth Prime has an earth mode?

We don't know because we haven't seen the scene in context.
The trailer seems to have gone down well. I think for me another reason for my continued apathy is that I just don't care about the movie Bumblebee character so a film centered around him is always going to be a tough sell for me (whoever makes it). I had hoped he would talk properly this time at least but it would appear not. Oh well.
I'll go see it to have an informed opinion about the film. I have a Cineworld card so it won't cost me extra. Maybe it will be ok. I thought the Power Rangers movie was ok and I cared even less about that going in!
