Not surprised what with Disney's move towards having their own streaming platform and the announcement that they would be pulling their films from Netflix. If they're going down the CBS route they need an A-grade brand to convince folk to pay for it rather than watch usual Disney channel material. This is a sensible move for Disney especially (as with CBS's new ST show) Star Wars has worldwide popularity (though much more than the likes of Trek) so the high costs of such a series could be met with international distribution. It's a smart move to draw attention to their new service.
The only downside is audience fatigue from having a SW movies every year and a TV show but then Marvel is punting out 2-3 films a year and several TV shows and no sign of decline yet so who knows. Also, back in the late 80's to early 2000's Star Trek was at times having over 50 episodes a year and a film and it took a while for general audiences to have had enough!

I'll believe it when I see it.
A bold choice for Disney and I can see the attraction of making it a draw to Disney's streaming service. Not sure if it would get me signing up.
I imagine the streaming market will be a lot more settled by then and 'studio' based ones might not be faring so well as they'Lloyd not be as nimble and responsive to audience's changing tastes.

Disney are the 800 pound gorilla of the western, at least English-speaking, entertainment industry. They have a huge base in terms of income from merchandise sales, which the rest of the company fuels. They run what is effectively an idol singer factory business almost like a hobby as a sideline which still manages to regularly produce acts who have significant chart presence...
Yeah, if Disney say that they are going to have a streaming business and are going to have a Star Wars TV series that they use to anchor it... Yeah, I'd not be surprised to see if happen. Bear in mind, Disney are institutional experts in manufacturing artificial scarcity to increase the perceived value of their product. They did it for several decades in the home video age. Heck, they might be the finest example of that particular caper after DeBeers!
I can believe that this is going to happen. Will anyone still care by the time it does? I don't know, but then I am clearly incapable of judging the tastes of the population at large going by evidence of the last few decades.

Getting excited about The Mandelorian. The setup sounds surprisingly compatible with the end of Rebels and Dave Filoni is directing an episode, this will no doubt lead to some level of disappointment on my part when it doesn't pan out, but in the mean time. Excitment.
Also Taika Waititi is directing one.
This could be really good.

That is uncanny, but perhaps it tells us that a lot of trailers are cut to a specific beat chart so will be interchangeable.
Do we know yet which channel this is on over here? We don't have Disney+ do we?

I imagine we will do in time for this. Hence why also the Marvel shows are being pulled from Netflix etc. I imagine DisneyLife will quietly morph into Disney+ soon enough.

DARK STAR WARS.
Good to see Disney have learned that pumping Star Wars stuff out too quickly was a bad idea...so let's put a series out a month before the next film! Hooray.

Boo! Dude frozen in carbonite, didn't we learn anything from Solo that obvious references to source material is not a good way to go?

Hooray. -Ralph Rebels was showing new episodes in the run up to most of the Disney era Star Wars films. I don't think that was responible for the last couple of films being divisive.

Rebels was a cartoon aimed at kids. This is live action so somewhat closer to what folk can see in theatres. I'll be interested to see how the publicity is handled so it doesn't cause issues with the promotion for Episode IX.

The sequel films don't really strike me as any sort of coherent 'era' or setting. Apparently the Mandalorian is set five years after Return of the Jedi so even with all the ancillary media they're not really fleshing stuff out.

Oh indeed. I just can't be hooped with a new show when there's a film coming out. I imagine my interest while be higher after the film has been and gone.
The film has Lando!!! Billy Dee!!!
