But where can I get my hands on them?

I've been thinking about Generations a bit recently..... The early CHUG years - everything up to and including T30 seem to form one unit. The Prime Wars Trilogy forms another, and this is more Generations with Gimmicks War For Cybertron is a third and for the most part, some elements of Siege aside, this is the articulated screen accurate versions many fans have wanted. But if anything WFC lets me see the CHUG years in a different light: Not so much he hit and miss on making an articuated screen accurate version, though there are occasional tries (and sometimes fails) there, but more of a "New Versions/Udated Looks" series. And some of these stand up really REALLY well. Yeah Kingdom Earthrise may be more screen accurate, but the original Generations toy is better. Blurr & Kup are great Earthmode toys. There's some superb MTMTE versions in T30. And even going back to Classics the BB, Mirage and Hotrod stand up really well and Astrotrain is a great update swapping steam engine for bullet train. Plus there's all new characters like Drift and Straxus who got done really well straight out the gate. I also note that Scourge and Cyclonus have now been done three times and never in the same line! Universe 2 Cyclonus & Generations Scourge
CW Cyclonus & TR Scourge
Kingdom Cyclonus & SS86 Scourge

Big topic this; I'll have to come back to it at the weekend when I've got more time. Who do you mean by 'Kingdom Earthrise'?

The main G1 cast done as Earthmodes in Earthrise and Kingdom as opposed to the more Cybertronian versions in Siege.

Oh right, sorry. The rest of that sentence made it sound like you were talking about a specific character.

When I got to having an income I told myself I'd never get rid of Transformers I'd bought because invariably it leads to regret later on, but I think at that point storage space wasn't an issue. As I'm sifting this weekend I'm trying to free up a bit of room which is leading me into lots of questions. I can't get a rule in my head as to what stays and what goes. Nothing from Animated backward is going anywhere, it's all the repeated character use in the last ten years. Do I need T30 Hoist & Trailcutter if I have the ER versions? Do I really want all those mediocre Beast Hunters Commanders? Then there's all those T30 legends two packs. Most of those have been superseded by better figures. I've amassed a sizable death row this afternoon but I don't want to make mistakes.

That's not me asking for advice by the way, I'm just wondering how everyone decides when it's time to move toys on. I'm definitely feeling the need to thin out the last ten years or so of toys to cut out the chaff. Really feeling now I want to focus more on Unicron trilogy backwards. Fill holes in lines and explore ones I haven't done before, like I've done with RiD. So much fun in those toys.

Some of the superseded T30 figures - Legends Tailgate, Trailcutter & Hoist, Brainstorm - might be worth keeping if you're into the MTMTE comic.
I wouldn't get rid of any of the toys from TR or CW whose characters have newer versions as those lines provide something functionally unique.
Of the POTP leaders it masy just be OpOp and his repaint who get kept for me. Maybe Rodimus Unicronus.
It's the Siege Cybertronian modes that I wonder if I need still.....

I've not read MTMTE. I bought floppies of the comics up to All Hail and then stopped, intending to switch to the hardbacks. Thing is it isn't until now that I've had a complete run, having switched to the Hachette books. So it's on the list. This is where this kind of problem comes in, trying to see where toys may come back into favour in future.
I haven't sorted the Prime Wars trilogy stuff yet, but I can't see much going there beyond legends. I don't mind keeping more than one of a character if the toy is good. Like the Club battlechargers are staying even though the new ones are better. I was looking at T30 Blitzing & Doubledealer earlier wondering if I should keep one of those just to hang on to the mould.
Pottop will be a challenge, but I'll deffo keep Leader Prime and Nemesis because I bloomin love the mould and Prime looks fab with CW leader Megs. And OpOp. Rodimus I think can go because that's all being done better with the new toys and it's too big anyway.
The Siege figures are a head scratcher. I had vanilla megs, Soundwave, Starscream, prime, prowl and Ironhide in a line this afternoon thinking, I have better versions of all of you. Why do I need to keep you? Do I want a few figures for a representative Cybertron display with the rainmakers?

My main policy when it comes to getting rid of figures is that... I don't. Which is leading to our current storage issues. The only time I got rid of a load of stuff was when Jo moved in and we discovered we had a fair few duplicates of certain characters, so I Fu-ed a load. Mostly I'm worried that I'll regret it later and then need to spend more money to pick them up again. But it is getting silly... My main driver for keeping figures is also to make sure that I have a whole range of characters available in case I do a month's worth of photos for one of the Lost Light challenges again. But I didn't take part last year due to a lack of time, so no idea if I will this year now that the Scraplet's a little older... I think the main thing really is that I spent so long (like until my early-mid thirties) having so few Transformers that I just can't bring myself to move any of them on. Although it's now been a decade of having a decent sized collection, so maybe I should try moving on...
Nah.

Actually my main problem is that I was *meant* to have storage space... once I'd built the planned extension to my house. Except that I had problems with the initial set of architects (designing an extension that was over my budget by about 100% and which no-one wanted to build), so I had to get another set of plans drawn up... and then the pandemic hit, and I got furloughed for a bit, and... yeah, it's been one set of delays after another. So the whole collection is sat in boxes in the dining room with nowhere to display, because I don't want to put up loads of shelves only to then remodel and have to buy more shelves, which is a bit depressing really, so... yeah.
It is quite a first world problem to have, mind you, so I'll not get too hung up on it. Or at all.

I'm happy enough to have one toy per character for the most part. My only duplicates are when TR and MP cross over so far, and I keep thinking the MP's might need to be at least moved into storage for a while...
The plan is to just move on the older chugs when they get obsolete, unless they are either standout toys (Hi, RtS Jazz) or are part of a collection I seem to have built up without realising (So many Mirages).
Trouble is actually moving things on, as I don't drive and have several boxes of 'obsolete' TF's. Not sure how I can get them to the boys of the Fu.

My main policy when it comes to getting rid of figures is that... I don't. Which is leading to our current storage issues. Mostly I'm worried that I'll regret it later and then need to spend more money to pick them up again. But it is getting silly... This is me completely. Having learned that I really shouldn't have sold all my Star Wars toys in the 80s, and then some major blunders as a late teen like selling Scorponok, I've always maintained I'd never sell any Transformers again. But when you're young and idealistic like that, you don't think about space. I know now if I'd sold any BW or Unicron trilogy stuff I'd be kicking myself now, but will I feel the same in 15 years about Beast Hunters Commanders or Generations cast offs? I can't see it. The line doesn't have the same attachment. I'm probably making more of this than I need to. I haven't reclaimed a huge amount of space so far, and in fact if I opened all the Generations stuff and binned the boxes I would get more space back than I would by moving on the few I have earmarked to chuck. I find myself at the moment having to open toys purely to put them in a zip bag in a tub to reduce the space they take up (hello Siege Crosshairs & Earthrise Fast Track, who got opened and bagged without even being posed on a desk, let alone transformed, yesterday). Actually my main problem is that I was *meant* to have storage space... once I'd built the planned extension to my house. This is also me. Been sitting on the fence for at least five years about either moving or rebuilding and everything is stuck waiting behind that. Architect fun is a summer holiday job. I got as far as completion selling this house and had started packing to move into one we thought we'd bought, then that all fell apart just before the pandemic and since then I've been thinking new extension instead. Snap! except mine are all melting in the loft, which is where I spent all yesterday trying to evaluate them.

This was also my plan. But then I keep looking at figures that don't fit into either of those categories thinking, but it just looks nice... (T30 Doubledealer).

Architect fun is a summer holiday job. I got as far as completion selling this house and had started packing to move into one we thought we'd bought, then that all fell apart just before the pandemic and since then I've been thinking new extension instead. The main advice I can give is to make sure that you give them a budget, and that the plans that they draw up stick to that budget. Obviously there'll be some wiggle, since costs will vary from builder to builder, but when you start getting quotes in that are double of your budget then you know the architect's gone fucked up. So definitely choose one that's recommended, and make sure that they can make commitments to time scales and costs, etc. Snap! except mine are all melting in the loft, which is where I spent all yesterday trying to evaluate them. Mine would go in the loft, if we had one. Well, we kind of do, but it's about a foot high, given our second storey is in the roof. My plan is to put them all in the basement under the house, which has required me spending a lot of money on plastic storage boxes. Again, this is not ideal... but it might be a little more temperature-controlled down there.

I like Doubledealers face sculpt, but the toy itself is a tabby mess that I can't make hold together in any mode. It's a shame, cuz I've rarely liked a face sculpt as much as his. It's almost a perfect Nick Roche page come to life.

And he is of course the First Ever Western Version of a Transformer from the Japanese G1 Franchise(TM). (I am mocking Hasbro, who labelled Victory Saber as such despite the other Japanese-series-originating characters that they'd already released.) Hasbro quite rightly deserve to be mocked but the question does have to be asked What is the First Ever Western Version of a Transformer from the Japanese G1 Franchise(TM)?Generations Black Shadow springs to mind but were there any in the main lines earlier? And what other Japanese characters have been done in the main lines? And which other have popped up in the likes of Botcon or TFCC toys?

If you’re going to count Stepper/Ricochet then he’d be the first - either in the Commemorative rerelease series, or in the Alternators line.

Magmatron was the first at full retail.
LioConvoy, Longrack, and a couple others were the first sold by Hasbro online.

What about remakes in western lines?
Anything earlier than Ricochet in Alternators?
Or in CHUG lines before Black Shadow?
