Not a complete list of pre-"chug" (god i hate that term):
LioConvoy and a handful of unique BWN molds were available through HasbroToyShop. This is the earliest thing I can recall, but these are just straight up imports, or reruns.
Magmatron was brought over through Beast Machines Dinobots
Half of RiD was Car Robots
MegaZarak was a Botcon exclusive
I Dai Atlas was in Universe 1.0 ala King Atlas
Stepper appeared in the Commemorative Reissue line as Ricochet
Stepper appeared in Alternators as Ricochet
Longrack appeared in Cybertron
Deathsaurus was the centerpiece to the first FP Botcon in 2005

I'm sure that Hasbro would argue that he doesn't count because in Beast Machines he's a different character who just so happens to have the same name and same physical appearance as the Japanese character, or something, though.

Where the BM Dinobots released in the UK? I know T Wrecks was, but have no recollection of the rest.
I got the 2000 release deluxes while in Florida I think so probably wasnt paying a lot of attention.
Sadly i dont remember seeing Magmatron.
And I must have missed the two 2001 releases while on holiday the next year. Or just didnt care as I wasnt much of a fan of either mould.

What do we think the plan is for Generations and Armada, plus the wider Unicron Trilogy? There's 4 specialist Armada moulds in play at the moment Optimus Prime
Megatron
Hotshot
Starscream Plus there's a retool of Siege Sideswipe as SG Sideswipe yet to appear in it's Armada Wheeljack colours. We've seen Hotshot's recolour as Powerlinx Hotshot, which come with Minicon Jolt and some weapons & Blast effects. We know there's an Armada Galvatron on next year's lists, obvious repaint, product number F8552 see tmukhub.proboards.com/post/498430/threadThere's a number of other Unicron Trilogy toys on the runway tmukhub.proboards.com/post/491407/thread Tra Gen Legacy UNI Core Energon Megatron Product Number: F8517
tmukhub.proboards.com/post/487078/thread Tra Gen Legacy Uni Voyager Cyber Starscream EAN # 5010996192165
tmukhub.proboards.com/post/498430/thread TRA GEN LEGACY UNI VOY CYBER VECTOR PRIME Product Number: F8546 Cybertron's had three toys already Siege Leader Galaxy Optimus Prime
Selects Cybertron Defence Hotshot
Legacy Titan Cyberton Metroplex Like the Armada toys Cybertron Metroplex should have a Minicon, Drillbit, who is so close to Megatron's Leader-1 that nobody would object if they shared a mould with Leader-1's guns exchanged for for Drillbit's drills. So that's three uses for that mould: Armada Megatron's Leader-1, Armada Galvatron's Clench and Cybertron Metroplex's Drillbit. The Whisper mould, with SG Sideswipe, will give us Armada Wheeljack's Windsheer. PL Hotshot's Jolt is in a cartoon accurate Orange so that could be done again as Toy Red and PL Toy Yellow. Starscream has a Minicon Partner Swindle. Swindle is repainted as Zapmaster with Armada Starscream's repaint Thundercracker. As yet Legacy Starscream hasn't been repainted as anything but that one seems obvious down the line Which leaves Optimus from the existing moulds. Optimus has two Minicons: Sparkplug, the car with the Superbase, and Over-Run the plane/gun with the deluxe. While I can't see a separate deluxe Armada Op coming I'm wondering if the Cab from the Commander could be released by itself as Voyager? Nemesis Prime and Ultra Magnus. Interestingly this may be in Hasbro's thoughts as the red plastic on the trailer/legs parts of the commander is a different sort to that on the cab body. While I can't see Nemesis Prime & Ultra Magnus warrenting a full Superbase repaint it would be nice to see what they would go for for trailer colours for those. If they did go Cab only release could Nemesis Prime & Ultra Magnus get new Super Mode Heads? Is Final Battle Optimus loved enough to warrant a full Commanmder repaint? So what else could we get? I've long thought the unrepainted Jhiaxus would be a good base for Armada Thrust but the PL Hotshot box appears to show Thrust as a standard Earthrise jet repaint. Earthrise Double dealer remains criminally unreused - Cybertron Defence Red Alert? Legacy Prime Arcee as Energon Arcee?

Armada Prime got a repaint in Energon in mustard colours so that's always a possibility.

I'd like to think there will be more figures but it does seem now that Hasbro have got into the multiverse idea and are just chucking out a lot of figures based on how they can see moulds being reused. I don't think there's a game plan beyond 'a bit of everything'.
It'll be interesting to see if this design team keep the trilogy idea or if we're now into ongoing legacy iterations.

While typing the above, another thing Legacy UNI could stand for occurred to me.... Unicron!

I think it's Universe, though. Mainly because I don't think they could do a whole line with Unicron's name on it, without Unicron. And we're still too soon after the $600 Haslab toy for them to even consider a retail priced one. I mean hell, I didn't buy one and even I would be upset on their behalf if that happened. Not to mention there's not even been a rumor about the line having anything to do with him.
As for it referring to the Unicron Trilogy, Hasbro doesn't formally call it that. So far they've been going with specific franchises and adding "Universe" to it.
So given that Hasbro loves to just reuse titles, and we've already had two separate toylines called "Universe," I believe we're about to have a third one. Because why not make it more complicated?

Switch it up and call it 'Transformers: Universal Streams'. A bit more clunky, but at least it's kinda distinct.

There's a difference between redoing a $20 retail toy for $20, and redoing a super exclusive $600 toy for $200 retail.

"As far back" as Siege..?! That's the new line!
But this does strike me that the danger that Generations was going to sink into Black Series territory is more real and pressing than I would have thought. It took them a while to start doing their "Archive Series" figures (i.e. repackaged reissues). I was kinda hoping that Transformers, with its masses of characters, wouldn't hit the point of being creatively bankrupt so soon...

Although yes, some figures like Skywarp could do with a reissue. Just so that people can get a hold of them. Maybe Hasbro are actually being kind, and my cynicism is unwarranted. If these reissues end up happening as Wal-Mart exclusives then we'll have our answer...

It's a good point thinking about it. Black Series does it's archive line for reissues of popular figures but none of the other big properties Hasbro have do the same. I wonder why. That said, the archive line has been a way for them to update the paint jobs on the faces to the newer more accurate method.
Is the archive line a way for Black Series to make more use of moulds? We get a lot of repaints in Transformers but I'd have thought most Black Series figures are unique.

I don't think there's quite the need for standard action figures to be reused so much, as with Transformers. They're nowhere near as complex, and probably nowhere near as expensive to make the tools.
On top of that, a line like Star Wars is composed of at least 50% troopbuilders. They make one Clone Trooper, and can give it a dozen slightly different decos as a dozen different characters, as well as a generic that the hardcore collectors will buy ten of. If that in and of itself doesn't help cover the cost of several unique one-off molds, then I dunno.

I'd be interested to know how much part reuse there is in Black Series, thinking about it. There are the troopers, but there is also a lot of reuse through things like the same toys coming out on anniversary card backs as well as the BS boxes. Then I guess all the various versions of the same character in different films are the same base moulds with minor changes. It may even be more than 50% reuse. And you're right, the tooling and design must be much cheaper than Transformers. I wonder how much cheaper a $25 BS figure is to make compared to a deluxe Transformer.
