Until recently, I have never had access to a garden in my adult life though now find myself in the exceedingly privileged position of having one. I never thought I would have one. I therefore have had new and strange thoughts about planting things. Got some seed potatoes on the go and the sweetcorn shoots are starting to show today. Went out last night to get more seeds!

Gardening is very good for the soul.

Best thing about a garden is making it friendly to wildlife, notably birds. Feed them, give them something to drink and somewhere to build their nests, and sooner or later they'll take up residence and you'll never be bored looking out of the window.
I have a small garden but a massive colony of sparrows in permanent residence in the large hedge I planted. I can hear them constantly. Very welcome sounds during the first lockdown when I was mostly in solitary confinement.

Yes we're bird friendly, pollenator friendly, and amphibian friendly, although no amphibia have come yet.

Planted spring onions, runner beans, spinach and lettuce today. Carrots to follow once I have finished some ice cream so the tub can be used.
Bird feeders at some point.

Im tempted to regrow my Tomato forest again this year. I have many tomatoes left on the vine from last year late crop.
I'm trying to grow runner beans from the last of last years crop too, but that doesnt seem to be going so well.
Orange and Lemon trees seem to have been half killed by the February freeze which is annoying, but the wild Bramble bush has been pruned back so Im hoping to make jam this year.

Just sunflowers, tomatoes, green beans, and sweet pea for us. Keeping it simple.
(Sweet pea isn't even a type of pea!)
Once tried carrots. But they warped beneath the earth into grotesque lurid shapes that were totally inedible so disturbing and malformed were they.

I "planted" some small potatoes that had started sprouting at the bottom of a sack last October. Yesterday I noticed some had started growing.
Im not sure I feel any better about these year old tatties than I do about the 2 beetroot plants that survived the winter. I guess they'll at least grow new potatoes unlike the beetroot which is just a year old beetroot.
3 of my four dead Orange or Lemon trees have new shoots growing from the base of the trunk, They'll take years to grow back and are going to be freaky deformed trees, but yay!
And my Christmas Tree has decided that loosing half its bark around the base of the trunk is no big deal and has continued it plan to grow upside down (its wider at the top than the bottom)
And finally a decent number of the hedgerow that was dug up front way late last year continue their recoveries.
Garden of death no more.
