Most of our crops were wiped out during the heatwave. Even the potatoes look poorly.

The freezing weather of a few weeks ago has turned my previous thriving Tomato plants to mush. I really thought they might survive this winter outside thanks to climate change.
The two I brought inside are still hanging on as are a couple of the pepper plants.

Similarly, I had a bunch of geraniums in the shed which seemed set fair to survive the winter but not gonna happen.

The gardening fell by the wayside. Hope to get back to it when Spring comes.

Got a little (JLM type) grow light and built a little grow box from a cardboard box some bubble wrap, tinfoil and a plastic tub for the top. Much to my surprise it seems to be keeping the last of last years tomato and chilli pepper plants alive.
Think I'll start planting seeds this week or next.

Got around to trimming the dead stuff off a hydrangea and discovered it was already sprouting! Global heating in action surely? Hope this week's cold snap doesn't harm it.

Our hyderangea sometimes looks utterly dead but then suddenly springs to life.

This thread is the height of middle age. I love it.
Our very mature cherry blossom tree probably died last year, which I'm utterly gutted about. Last year it only had a few blossoms on it and some very small weedy looking leaves. Lemon tree borer beetles did for it according to a tree surgeon we got out in summer. He said it might come back if we chop it back this winter but he thinks it's done for.
I've been researching if we can replace it with a mature one, which looks possible but will probably be difficult to get the current one fully out.

2023 is The Year if the Pond, in the Shockprowl garden. I've been on a mission of re-wilding for a year or so now, and to be wildlife friendly a pond is a necessity. I identified and half-cleared an area last autumn. Soon it will be time to dig. Dig! DIIIIGGG!!! I want to get it as established as I can before spring. Which is what you're supposed to try to do according to the books. I WANT AMPHIBIANS.

I even tried saying we could get a ready-made one on top of the gravel rather than digging a hole but I was still told no.

I suspect he may have been subject to orders from a power greater than he..... It was more me. It was in the way of a landscaping plan that will be deployed once the building plan has been completed.
