Thor 4 was...not good.
Tickets booked for Mrs Ralph and I for the new 4k version of the directors cut of Star Trek: The Motion Picture and 4k Wrath of Khan for late Aug/early Sept.
Got next Wednesday off work so booked for Bullet Train and Minions 2.

Not bad for a day off.

Takings have recovered well enough it seems. Its the debt from buying up various chains around the world pre pandemic thats hurting them.
will probably survive in some form.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture! Magical on the big screen! Our first Saturday night cinema trip since before Covid.
Cinema in general was very quiet. No wonder Cineworld is in trouble if the Saturday night crowds haven't come back.

The Motion Picture felt really different on the big screen.
Honestly it might just be that its the first time Ive ever watched it when it was my sole focus.
I also realised just how close it feels to TOS if you ignore the beige bits of uniform. Some of the shots of Spock in his blue uniform against some of the sets could have come straight out of the series.
And of course Deckers horniness saving the day is right out of TOS playbook.

1. Spider-Man no Way Home 2. Moonfall. 3. Death on the Nile 4. The Batman 5. Morbius 6. The Lost City 7. Dr Strange ITMOM 8. Everything Everywhere All at Once 9. Sonic 2 10. Chip and Dale 11. Top Gun Maverick 12. Top Gun Maverick 4DX 13. The Lion King 2 (disney+) 14. JP: Dominion 15. Lightyear
16. Thor: Love and Thunder - Seems to have split opinion. I enjoyed it, but slightly too much going on or the script not being quite as tight means it doesnt top Ragnorak. Even though Bale, Crow and Portman are fantastic and Darcy returns.
17. Bullet Train - Kinda great. Visually cool and the script kept me guessing (far more than it needed to to keep my attention) and right till the end.
18. Star Trek The Motion Picture: It is hilariously paced. How much of the run time is made up of slow fly bys? Love it though.
It, Insurrection and Beyond really are the closest the movies came to big screen episodes.

Top Gun: Maverick gets its streaming release today and every YouTube movie-reaction-poster’s head explodes.
I’ve put in my steelbook pre-order and will try to resist the temptation to see it a third time in the cinema while I wait.

Feck me sideways. I did not expect Spider-Man: No Way Home to be *that* good. I was expecting disposeable gimmicky nonsense but it had a proper story and great dialogue. I even get a bit teary during certain scenes.
Now I understand how it pulled it in the crowds during peak covid when it was first released.
Couldn't tell what was 'new footage' as a first-time viewer as I didn't detect any fat that needed to be cut.

Watching Uncharted. Narratively very similar to the games; I see it's based on Uncharted 4 - the first half hour is almost exactly the same. It works, my only problem is that all of the characters are about ten years younger than they are in the games and I can't get past that. Tom Holland is just too young to be Nathan Drake. He comes across as a sassy teenager with a chip on his shoulder in this, whereas one of the more endearing characteristics of Nathan in the games is his world-weariness.

1: Star Trek: The Motion Picture (2022 Director's Edition). 2: Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (2022 Director's Edition re-release): good but seeing it in a cinema setting after seeing TMP does show up how cheap it is in comparison. 3: Top Gun: Maverick (IMAX). 4: Spider-Man: No Way Home (extended re-release) 5: Minions: The Rise of Gru. 6: Bullet Train. 7: Jurassic World: Dominion (IMAX) 8: Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (IMAX). 9: Thor: Love and Thunder. 10: Everything Everywhere All At Once.
Ten films! Usually I would have seen ten films by the end of January in a typical year, but still more than in 2020 and I saw none at all in 2021. Covid and all that.

Thank goodness for Top Gun: Maverick. I really wouldn't want the best film of 2022 to be 90% identical to a film released the previous year. But the (improved) extended cut of Spider-Man almost does that.
Most of the extra stuff felt like it was in the first act, pre-spell. Pretty much all the Betty Brant stuff was newly added, some new J.J.J. and Flash stuff, a bit more pre-finale chat atop the Statue of Liberty, and there's a new end-of-end-credits scene (where there was previously a Dr Strange 2 preview).
Intrigued by the three-actors introduction that the start, which assumes everyone has already seen the previous version, as it completely spoils what was the main big surprise last time around, when most of the audience didn't know _they_ were in it.

Extending MCU films is new for Marvel isn't it? I bought the Blu-ray of this, do I now need to buy another one? I note doing a bit of digging that there were five deleted scenes listed as Blu-ray extras on the initial solicits for it, which then weren't on the actual release.

22. Spider-Man: No Way Home more fun edition - That was more fun.
And Ive seen it in Imax, regular 2D and now ScreenX.
ScreenX was fun, I was the only on in the cinema. Sat central and just the right distance back to take in all of the side projection bits.

Martin At this point I would guess most people know what they are going to see. The extra footage improves an already good film, but I can also see why it was cut originally. Especially on first viewing, you don't need it and it kept the run time down a little bit. But the more Ive rewatched it I did notice how you really dont get to see a lot of what Peters life has become. They go from May/June to early November very quickly. Those extra few minutes kind of explain why Peter is so willing to go to Strange. The rest is just fun to see.
