Sorted for a return to TFN. Booked for Friday and Saturday. Got a super cheap room in the Arden for Friday night.

I had the pleasure of explaining that in a restaurant recently where they had the same shakers. No one could find the salt, but I could. Oh yes. I knew.

The question does remain though why anyone would want to design a salt shaker that actively tries to hide the salt from you.

After the many problems and stress with this year's Hilton booking, I plan to defect to the Arden in 2025.

First time booking my own room at the Hilton this year, and I had only minimal issues which were soon solved by the online helpers. I assume that's a special offer for first timers and they make it difficult after that.

I'm basing myself at the Premier Inn, a short voyage across the car park away. It worked out significantly cheaper than trying to stay in the Hilton. I look forward to finding out if it is going to be full of Mormons again this year. Their determination to ignore the existence of the Heathen befouling their hotel was more entertaining to said Heathen than I think they realized. (Yes, I could probably find out by checking the NEC schedules but it is funnier to leave it as a surprise).

I don't know about any defections, I just went for the cheapest room among those five or six hotels that are in that NEC complex. I stayed at the Arden one time before, nice place. Much more hassle than the Hilton having to do that walk back and forth across the railway, but when the room is less than half the price of the Hilton and has free parking I'll happily stretch my legs.

Just discovered that the Premier Inn is not going to have a restaurant over the weekend. So no breakfast for Karls it would seem. (They are offering complementary fruit, pastries and coffee instead - but as I can't really have the pastries it boils down to coffee and an orange or something for my breakfast). :-(

Can anyone who stayed there last year remind me, does the Hilton still have a Costa or whatever it was in the reception/bar area? I might be able to scare up a late breakfast, early brunch there if the worst comes to the worst.

I have discovered that there is a Starbucks in the NEC carparks, near to the route I must take to reach the Hilton in the mornings, that opens at 06:30am (07:00am on Sundays). Thus I should hopefully be able to snag something for my breakfast from there on my way in to report for Toyfu duty. And alls right with the world once more!

There is also a Starbucks (or the like) in Resorts World. NEC has a Subway.

I've just had it confirmed that I shall be babysitting my nephew on the Sunday for his first Transformers convention. (Possibly first convention of any kind.) Well, I say babysitting but he'll be turning thirty next month! A child of Beast Wars and Armada.
I'm not doing Club Con. Anyone else? Just wondering who might be around in the bar earlier on.
Karl, there are a couple of Wetherspoons in the NEC, but I don't know what time they'd be open for breakfast. Various outlets for coffees, too.

The Toy-Fu team may well be after a long hard day fleecing the rubes but are unlikely to be in a fit state for much.
I know Nick said they were going to try to come on the call if they could string two words together

Not sure that the NEC Subway is open at the sort of time in the morning I'd be passing (Subway is very much my last resort choice) but that is a useful reminder. T Thanks! Karl

Likewise as Ralph, ta for the reminder about the NEC - I think I've mostly been regarding it mentally as the big blob on the map to be navigated around every morning and evening, and I've forgotten it also contains stuff! I'm not doing Club Con either. Whether I am around in the bar may depend on how I feel by the time I'm back from getting dinner at Resorts World. If I am there I may see you in there. Karl
