Ironic thing about that one way system was that the main corridor the TFN people weren't allowed thorough was always totally empty. However I can see the sense in why it was there, it effectively meant the ground floor was divided in half but both the TFN attendees and the Motion City dance attendees had easy access to the bar/lobby.
What I thought was great was the sign on the divide saying 'TFN attendees who want a massage, this way' inviting transformers fans into the inner sanctum of the dance empire for a quick rub.

Yeah, the system was...not ideal. On the Saturday when I was there the footfall through the smaller coridoor (the one TFN attendees were allowed to use) was fairly large and did call for a fair amount of active queue management from convention staff (which they did a really good job of). Whereas the wider corridoor (reserved for the Motion City folks) seemed almost unused at the times I was there.
But there probably wasn't really any other way to do it - the wide corridoor passed directly in front of the halls that Motion City were using so you couldn't have really done much else.
What stunned me was watching the queue for Standard Entry to the dealer hall stretch all the way back the length of the hotel into the bar. Comparing that to the first Transformers convention I attended, upstairs in a small community hall where the entire space was smaller than the Hilton bar. Certainly made me stop and marvel.

well i enjoyed that. missed matt's presentation due to traffic, which was annoying because that was one of the things i really wanted to see. any chance of the slides / notes if such things exist? saturday was lots of fun but omg the prices of booze in that place! club con lots of fun, was sitting next to a chap who kept pulling cold beers out of his bag and handing them out... not all heroes wear capes! wish i could have stayed for the whole of today's stuff as interested in the trader talk presentation especially but not to be. good to meet matt and ralph at toy fu, nice one chaps!

My visit was pretty brief. Drove up on Sat and arrived about 1:30 on Sat thinking it would have calmed down, but not a bit; it was utterly manic! Had a drink in the bar to give it more time and then back in (it was a bit calmer). Bought some Armada from Ralph for me and my boys to play with (modern toys are too boring for them), had a brief chat with Andy and Nick R. After that I was mostly away, hanging out with people elsewhere or enjoying the very rare treat of peace and quiet with no children!
On reflection, I should have got a Sunday ticket so I could do more Con-type things, but didn't because my 24 hour parking would have run out. Will have to think about that when I next get to go.
Hoping to go to Reading minicon and to bring my boys so might see you there if you're going.

On the one-way system thing: coming in the back entrance (as I suspect quite a few people staying at other hotels did), I was quite confused by it (especially by the sign offering the free massage!). I did as the signage instructed, but I can well imagine somebody who didn't know the purpose of it feeling a bit rebellious once they'd had a drink or two. No doubt it was explained in some documents I didn't read but a refresher in the ticket collection room might have been a good idea if there was friction with the other event.
As a parent of autistic children, I thought the ticket collection room / chill-out space was absolutely fantastic. It was so calm and quiet! And the woman behind the desk was brilliant. The lad in front of me was very on edge and stressed by some things that had not gone to plan for him and she helped him beautifully.

£10 original comic art pages from Panini Armada UK by Andy Wildman was an offer I could not refuse so bought 4 of them off him.
I couldn't get off the Toy-Fu stall often due to being very busy (not complaining) for anything other than loo runs so wasn't able to see much of what folk were selling. Place was heaving!

For anyone else coming DO NOT PAY ON ARRIVAL your hotel bill to avoid the secret double charge "for security reasons". If you pay on arrival and check if you have paid everything you are told yes. Then you check your account and see you have been charged twice so you go back to reception. They THEN say this is a new policy for "security reasons" due to a "new policy" and the second charge is released when you check out. Asked for money back. Which will take days as it is a standard refund. Never come across this kind of nonsense before. Caused massive amounts of stress. I was all for leaving straight away until I was talked down. A complaint will be submitted after I leave. Can't handle dealing with the front desk again. -Ralph Went to breakfast, came back and found I was locked out of my room. Went to reception and told I had not paid full bill. I had to shout to be allowed to go up and get my belongings and then I walked out. I cannot cope with the Hilton. Stressed out to fuck. Left early so time to kill before train but I just could not cope with that hotel one minute longer -Ralph |
