'The critics' are not a monolithic entity. The film has received mixed reviews. Some love it, some don't, some are in the middle.

Fair point. I exaggerate.
One week in and all the souvenir cups they had last week are gone.
Sometimes they over-order and shelfwarm for months.

And now I've seen the D+W trailer and listen to that, it's another remix of an 80s song with orchestral/percussive hits.

I almost bought the D&W soundtrack but I lost my enthusiasm when I saw that 'Like a Prayer' isn't even on it! www.amazon.co.uk/Deadpool-Wolverine-OST-Various-Artists/dp/B0D81KR459So many cover versions of it suddenly on YouTube now though. Not played the Borderlands games, I wonder how true to them the film is.

Having enjoyed the recent French-language Three Musketeers films, I'm going to give The Count of Monte Cristo a go when it opens on Friday. I think it's the best Alexandre Dumas novel. Like the book, the film is long.

The Count of Monte Cristo is one of my top ten books of all time. The 2002 Guy Pearce movie was rubbish. The Gerard Depardieu 1998 TV mini-series (in French) was much better but flawed. The movie released in cinemas this week is as near-perfect as I could ask for. I'm not surprised, as it's made by the same company that did The Three Musketeers films with Eva Green last year, and Monte Cristo is a much better story than Musketeers.
For me, the three hours flew by.

'The Terminator' is currently back in cinemas. I was most amused by the intro before the film where James Cameron claims it was the first film he directed.
Ah ha ha, no, Jimbo. We haven't forgotten your directorial debut, 'Pirhana II: The Spawning'.

Twister (1996) is being released in 4DX. Booking seats in that format was a red-haze no-brainer. We are doing a showing on the 21st. Mrs Ralph has not experienced 4DX before...

Mrs Ralph has not experienced 4DX before... -Ralph It did not go well for Mrs Ralph. This had *by far* the most violent chair movement I have experienced at a 4DX screening. I genuinely had to hold on tight with white knuckles to stop taking a tumble during the tornado scenes and several times my ass left the chair as I was thrown upwards. Brilliant fun for me, but too much for Mrs Ralph. Also saw Star Wars (1977) again. Perhaps putting SW back on the big screen is no longer the draw it once was: only 9 folk at the screening. -Ralph

Was it the proper 1977 version or whatever iteration of remaster we're on now?

The current version. There is zero chance of the 1977 release being screened again.

*checks local listings*
Blimey. Is that a thing now? There are more old films on at my local in the next month than there are new ones. Star Wars, Empire, Carrie, Gladiator, Elm Street, Back to the Future II, Interstellar, Return of the King... The list is endless!

Yeah. Most of the films I have seen in the cinema this year have been re-releases. Many weeks there just hasn't been anything new to see. Covid + writer and actor strikes = less new films this year.

There are more old films on at my local in the next month than there are new ones. More films, not more screenings. Most of the screenings will still be of the new films, as the old films only get shown once or twice each. And it makes sense, as there are so many old films available to be re-shown. I should go and see more old films in the cinema, but this year so far it's just been Demolition Man, which I don't own in any form. I know the cinema experience is better than any small screen experience, but I'm too lazy to go there to see something I own on disc. Hmmm. Martin

I'm tempted by Elm Street. I have all those films but it was a big moment for me when I was old enough to get into a cinema to see the later ones.
