Some Lawman of The Future perhaps...

40 years ago this week in 2000AD, nothing happened at all. Zip. Zilch. Nada. The great journalists' strike of 1984 finally caught up with the Galaxy's Greatest and Pinwig will have nothing to read for the next three weeks!
Prog 376 - 7th July 14th July 21st July 28th July Prog 377 - 4th August
Instead I will console myself with the Sci-Fi specials of 1984 and 2024.
The Eagle however survived the strike and has an unbroken publication run right through it. No missing issues. Scream of course had bitten the dust the week before, June 30th, with its fifteenth and final issue.

John Wagner & Colin MacNeil back for Dredd: Machine Rule this coming week.
Not got all of this year's data on the Dreddsheet but I think this is the first Wagner Dredd since 2279 and the last part of The Citadel

1984 Sci-Fi special has a lot of reprint in it. I liked the new one though, fun diversions.
I can't decide if I need to back this romance special kickstarter. I'm also not sure why I'm even thinking about it. If this is like a newstand special I'd get it to go with the other treasury specials, but is it actually a graphic novel?

No, the Misty one.
Oh! 1984. Yes, these days I read this week's 2000AD, along with the issue that came out 40 years ago. So now is the time to be reading the 1984 sci fi special. But it's a bit naff.

You're not missing anything. One new mediocre Dredd story, one Rogue, and the rest is filler & reprint.

No he isn't, the conversation has just moved on.
I have the 2024 special, read it, enjoyed it. I have the 1984 special, read it, didn't enjoy it as much. I was looking in Smiths yesterday for the Misty special but they didn't have it. Fortmax commented he'd seen it in his Smiths, so mine must be lagging. Not uncommon.
If they don't have it by next weekend I'll order one off the shop.

Forty years ago this weekend, 2000AD and Eagle both featured a colour advert for The Transformers for the first time. You know the one: the enormous blue Bluestreak standing between buildings while the featured toys were Sideswipe, Bumblebee, Thundercracker and Rumble. The marketing begins!

We're needing new windows and doors this year, so at some point soon I will have to gut the hobby room to allow for work to be done. This will be an opportunity to rethink the space for when it is reassembled.
I'm thinking 10 years plus of Tooth and Megazine will have to go*. I keep them out of habit and I am thinking maybe just to be more ephemeral with them and pick up trades of the good stuff. This would also make that material more accessable and save a lot of space! Then purge the floppies every six months (like I have to do with DWM other than key issues/Specials). Just keep Tooth Specials.
Can't keep everything!

I keep specials and recycle the rest as I read them. Keep thinking about switching to a digital subscription as I have read a few issues that way and it isn't dreadful and then I could keep them all.. but I like the printed copy in hand.
Have found that I don't miss the recycled copies. Some stories I have bought the collections for but generally very few. Some Dredd, Dreadnoughts, Future Shocks collections and Lawless mainly.

I appeared to have injured my calves doing this. Ow. Ow.
Ow.
The likes of Lawless, Brink and some Dredds were be reacquired in due course in space saving collected editions.

One of the side effects of our recent house remodelling (still ongoing, utility room appliances going in this week) is that I've gained the airing cupboard, which is in my office room, because it's no longer needed. That in time is going to become my Thrill Power containment unit, so fortunately in my case the complete collection is staying. I'm happy with that as I'm really enjoying the dual weekly read of this week's prog and the week's issue from 40 years ago.
