Come along to the Birmingham Informal Gathering of Kindly New/Old Buddies!
How about an informal get-together in Birmingham?
We'll gather, take in the sights, commandeer a local speak-easy and have a lovely day.
We need to agree on a date first and foremost. Before or after Christmas? Any preferred weekends?
DATE CONFIRMED: SATURDAY 15 JANUARY 2011
Let's discuss!

That's a good idea - check if FP still have the cheap trades or £1 comic packs in stock then head to Entertainer.

The comic mart is on Saturday 8 January 2011...
If that's not too close to the New Year, and if people are interested in going to that as part of the day, we could provisionally call that weekend.

The new year sounds fine to me. As long as Christmas is out of the way for me I shouldn't have any problem.
Where will the actual meet-up take place. You hinted at outside the Bullring in the other thread but there are at least two exits to the Bullring so this location could get a little confusing.

I am sure we will use our intelligence to agree on a suitable meeting place.
After Christmas would be easier for me.

Not sure at this stage whether I would be able to make the 8th of Jan. I'd like to come but I will have to see how things shape up.

I had said why Birmingham here, but then I noticed this thread came from discussion in another thread. That said, with potential Swindon talk and Transforce relatively early next year, I wouldn't personally come up to the same place I'd be going to Auto Assembly later on in the year for just for the day for an informal meet up.

We would most likely meet everyone in the concourse of Birmingham New Street train station. It's right next (I think) to the coach station as well, so an ideal meeting point. Plus there are plenty of cafes nearby as we wait for everyone to arrive.

It's usually cold early January, right?
We'll need to wrap up warm and prepare for the entire country grinding to a halt as it did this year.

My bro and I would totally be down with this, yo. After Chrimbo sounds best to me.. ut would the 8th maybe a little TOO soon? Speaking entirely for myself, I have three Birthdays, Christmas and New Year to cater for between now and then... most of them in the same two week period leading up to the 8th... But if that's the date you guys are set on, then I will definitely find a way.

Plus there are plenty of cafes nearby as we wait for everyone to arrive. New Street train station isn't exactly right next to the coach station (assuming that you're thinking of the National Express coach station that I use). The train station is only a stones throw away from the Holiday Inn while the coach station is on the other side of the Bullring (the Bullring is virtually opposite the train station but you have to effectively walk through the Bullring and out the other end to get anywhere near the coach station*. *Unless of course I've been taking a few proverbial wild goose chases for the past two years!

I shall try and save some pennies to make it for January. I may try and take a half-day off work to travel down on the Friday which would be easier for me personally.

It's my Birthday on the 4th, so I might have family / getting drunk commitments to honour on the 8th... But I'll try and be available. Typical of my timing Mx

The 8th isn't entirely set in stone, I only picked it as the comic mart was also that day.
At this stage, I'm easy as I have no plans for later on in the month. I know that the 8th is the first weekend after New Year's so may be difficult for a lot of folks.

I'd be happy to pop along. My calendar tends to get eaten up (I'm definitely away on a couple of the weekends in January) but if I'm free, I'd happily take the 30-minute train journey

Having rejigged my leave plans a little bit it looks like I will be available for the 8th after all, so I can provisionally say that I will be able to attend.
Not sure whether I would come down late on the Friday or early on the Saturday as yet, will need to have a thunk about that.

Quick way to get from new st station to NE coach is - go down those steps next to Debenhams that take you to the lower floor & walk passed the market - then you've just got to follow the road down passed moor st car park & you end up at the rear of the NE coach where they enter. just follow round the built up market storage block.

I would suggest moving it from the 8th. It would seem unfair if we picked the one weekend a local (Mr Stevenson) couldn't make!

I'm not saying I wouldn't be able to show my face on the 8th (as I genuinely have no idea what's happening). I just thought I'd better let you guys know in case it does become a problem at some point... I'm probably not being very helpful Mx

Whens the next comicmart after the 8th? If thats the reason for meeting on the 8th, then delaying it by a month or so doesn't seem like too much of a hardship.
Plus, it gives peoples bank accounts a chance to recover...
