I actually liked that long run of one-off silly stories, though I was reading catchup at the time. I imagine month-on-month it may have got a bit wearing.
I think half of it is IDW's own marketing (again, marketing it as an event showdown that still hasn't taken place 2 months after it was supposed to start) and half the fact that there doesn't seem to be any danger given that pretty much every single death with the exception of Ambulon was a fakeout or undone.
I mean it's nice that Rewind is back and that Cyclonus didn't die when everyone shot him at once, but even if next month has Tarn rip off Swerve's head and eat his face I still wouldn't be shocked to see Swerve turn up a few issues later.
(Yes I know COMIC DEATH is such an ingrained joke by now, but still! Just because everyone else does it, doesn't mean you should start smoking, little Timmy. God, look at Nightbeat. The doors of death mean nothing if you're a fan favourite character).

I think we might be going somewhere with Cybertrons reincarnated as humanoids.

I'd agree that they've definitely cheapened character death in MTMTE. It doesn't take anything away from the moment itself - but you learn to recognise the pattern and distrust it - which they may play upon, I don't know. There's just so much going on - and 80% of it is great - it's just a lot of weird pandering the rest of the time.

I enjoyed that last issue.
I wonder if they will have the balls to properly do something game-changing by the end of it. I know James would, but whether Hasbro would go for it. You could make an argument for Megatron being somewhat akin to Sinestro as portrayed by Geoff Johns in Green Lantern. The resolution to his character arc cannot be pretty one way or another. It's will they allow him to be potentially taken off the table, or we end up with some awkward justification for him to survive past the end of MTMTE.

I think 'Dying...' has been excellent so far and I enjoyed the fact this issue zipped along. James has said it himself: action eats pages and so he avoids it, but this story deserves action and so far it's delivering it in my opinion.
If you look at most narratives following a 5 part structure of: set-up, rising action, climax, falling action and denouement then it's perfectly normal for the first and second of those five to take up a disproportionate amount of the page/ word count. So I have no problem with the setup getting 2 issues (I avoid previews and solicitations so perhaps the avoidance of marketing helps).
That said, if I've had one thing I've been consistently a bit unsure of with mtmte it's been that some of its endings (particularly during the short stories discussed above, which I didn't always enjoy) didn't really have enough payoff or explanation. It's later emerged that this was usually because James was holding things back but to me this story feels different. I think the denouement of this story is being set up masterfully and, a few mysteries aside, I fully expect it to feel final and done; I expect death to become permanent (as far as mtmte is concerned anyway) very shortly.

My review of today's issue:

Okay, but more seriously: I just feel a bit... argh. I mean it was okay, but it was yet another set-up issue where the big confrontation is delayed once more. The DJD have major villain decay. I remember when they murdered the entire Lost Light and now Ratchet and Drift can school them all and carry around a sparkeater like it's no big thing. I liked the bit where Armada Sureshock rescued Megatron (I think) but I'm confused as to why the Autobots are all worried. I mean it's not like anyone's surrounding or watching the fortress where they're holed up. Why don't they just leg it in the opposite direction? No-one stops Megatron going back or forth and Drift and Ratchet both arriving and flying to the fortress. No-one even notices Megatron, actually! No-one notices Overlord arriving on the planet. What sort of an outfit is Deathsaurus running?? I think this whole thing will read a lot better in the trade!

#52 was pretty great. That said my enjoyment level of MTMTE rarely drops below 'tickled'!

Ah but Overlord! And if he's there in fine fettle then where's original Rewind ?? I can see us sitting back and watching the hilarious consequences when he meets Chromedome and new Rewind . Can anyone say Eject who has yet to appear in IDW? (IIRC I mentioned this upthread on a previous occsion)

That would be good if it was #60 then you could tell us how long the renumbering lasted.

54: Convinced Overlord is lying when he speaks to Chromedome. Skids :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-( :-(
But I think they might be going somewhere with Transformers who've dies so, just like Trailbreaker, I don't think it's the last we've seen of him.
Really not sure who fired the shots at the end

Last night I read #36, 39 - I haven't got #37.38 so don't know what happens but reading #40-49 next. Has it been revealed who Tarn is? How much Rollers chin in #36 looks like Tarns chin in #39

I'm trying to remember when the "Tarn is Roller?" thing started ..... No they haven't revealed who Tarn is yet. But it would be a big surprise if he wasn't Roller at this stage Also: FFS Read 37 & 38 before going any further!

I think James should be doing a bluff on us & that at the end it isn't Roller but someone who thinks he is better than him & trying to be him like a Nemesis Roller (ie Leobreaker in Cybertron cartoon)
I can't remember what happen to take friend of Hotrod in Primacy - i think it was Slinger - he could be Tarn if he didn't get killed.
I need to find #37,38 but hopefully get them this weekend. I stopped re reading IDW in order at ongoing #6 while reading New #40 onwards then going back to the Bumblebee #1-4 ongoing #7+

I think it'll be easy to get the tpb instead of trying to find #37,38 - none at Nottingham today.
