Morons. Services are being cut because the Council can't find money yet somehow unlimited cash can be poured into a very short tram line to the airport (where an excellent bus service exists). Idiotic.

To explain how stupid this is: the original plan to have a network of several lines was long ago shelved. What will happen is one very short line along one very small route which is not designed to go where people actually live: merely to go from a train station to the airport and back (already served with an excellent, clean, reliable and cheap bus service) while pointlessly going along Princess St (because the Council will think it will look nice). £228 extra million now has to be found in two months to pay for this and I am sure it will be found. Meanwhile, services are slashed left right and centre as there is 'no money'.
This right here is an example of why I despise politicians.

Rethink? They need to start thinking in the first place!
It's become a bit of an embarrassment now for them considering every decision they make provokes further exasperation from Edinburgh residents and makes UK wide news.
Unfortunately there is no good way out of this mess, but there is a complete lack of leadership by the council over this. And I'm sure its not unfair to say the SNP are milking and manipulating it for all its worth.

This has passed the point that it can be described as anything other than colossal ineptitude. How can a project get to the stage where it can't be completed, can't be cancelled and can't be changed? By entering the stage where it becomes a political football of course.
All those cosmopolitan, modern, forward-looking european cities that keep being mentioned in this context must be unsure whether to laugh or cry when they look at the saga of Edinburgh's tram "system". Considering the years of disruption that we have had so far, to have reached the present shambles is frankly unforgiveable.

Shock news! SNP do what they should've already done but only do it when it can look like their city-saving idea?
Whatever next? (An actual network for a start would be nice at the price...)

I love the way that the Council don't want a public enquiry to make the project an political issue during the run-up to the local elections. Heaven forfend that local politicians conduct of a major capital infrastructure project becomes a political issue. That would mean judging them on their actions, and something more anithetical to what politics is supposed to do cannot be imagined.....

At least they're being honest about it rather than making up some excuse no-one would believe as to why no enquiry now!
