Dare I insinuate they'll pull the bus service to get people on the trams?

I wouldn't be surprised if Lothian Buses were to lose their airport link contract at the end of the current term.

I'm sure the Scots contingent discussed what ratio of Edinburgh's construction budget actually goes straight into the pockets of corrupt officials without touching the project itself. I think the number we settled on was about 80%.

The trams were supposed to be moving today. Didn't see any.

That is because they are only moving between two stops on the very outskirts of the city. They are unlikely to be in town until next year. (Don't) keep holding your breath.

I travel widely. Still haven't seen any. Did see a mouse yesterday though. It ran over my foot in the park.

GASP. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-24571752It will be nice to be able to move freely through the city centre for the first time in the four years I have lived here. Work will be significantly easier. This could shave 45 mins off my travel time for Monday work activities. Still unclear how this will give us "a modern transport system" though. All it means is that the bus network can work properly now and people will be able to walk unimpeded in the city centre. The small tram line is utterly redundant. It only goes a short distance to the airport, already served by an excellent bus link which was recently revealed to be rather cheaper than the trams will be anyway! And oh look, another organisation is mysteriously and suddenly being set up to manage this. FFS. -Ralph

I wonder if reopening the city centre includes removing the long line of cones off the tram lines on Princes Street which currently bottle necks current public transport at several strategically annoying points? I can only guess the cones are there to stop the buses using the tram tracks to preserve them!! Can't wait for trams to hit town as well. I will think of you Edinburgh folk fondly!

The tram works are supposed to have vanished from the city centre, according to news reports. I shall check myself today...

There are still tram works at Atholl Crescent but the road is open and traffic is flowing freely through the city centre. First time I have seen such a route open in the four years I have stalked the city.

I was in Haymarket yesterday to meet up with M and Karl for lunch, and can attest that the road works have gone. It looked bizarre.

I took the bus home through Shandwick Place for the novelty value. Large portions of it (i.e. almost the whole tram/bus lane) are still coned off with roadworking equipment parked nearby. Don't get too excited folks....

A two-way bike lane? Some cities have trouble with one-way bike lanes! It seems a bit excessive.

Reducing buses on Princes St is a recipe for madness as it is the main artery route through the city centre and the tramworks proved that neighbouring streets were not structurally able to cope with increased bus traffic.

Since the reopening a couple weeks ago a lot of buses which used to serve the whole length of Princes Street now turn off halfway down on to George St. This may not sound bad but these are all buses that used to effectively connect the bus routes with Waverly train station and now don't. These are also not routes the tram will replace....
It has reduced congestion at the east end junction of Princes Street but the same effect could have been had by just enforcing the parking restrictions that the hotel at that junction continually breaks without disrupting everyone else. But then that hotel's clients are the type with more money than sense...

But then that hotel's clients are the type with more money than sense... Or have power without responsibility perhaps...? Taking bus routes away from the railway station seems to be misguided in the light of the expressed intention to build an integrated transport system. You would think that this goal would be better served by making it easy to change from one form of transport to another... Karl

In an ironic twist, I'm not actually finding it any quicker to get through Princes St/Haymarket any quicker on the bus now that the streets have re-opened!

I noticed yesterday that the tram only has one entrance/exit platform along the whole length of Princes Street and that's at the far end of it.
It makes no sense!!

Obviously the only answer is a series of ziplines all over the city centre, with some sort of powered return mechanism.
