What toys would you repaint to put in the classic line ? Toy must be vaguely shaped like the original version in at least one mode. Repaint as much as you like. I'll start with the traditional Armada Hoist in Green (instead of white) and purple (instead of brown) Can I get away with also wanting (the again traditional) Night Slash Cheetor with Yellow for the Grey and Black, and clear Green for clear Orange

I think this was done for a convention or exclusive or something, I may be wrong, but Energon Towline as Ratchet and Ironhide. The mold is made to be these characters.
A red C. Brakedown would make a good Windcharger.
A red and blue E. Strongarm might make a good Gears.
I think A. Hoist would make a good Graple.
What 'bout a blue, with new head, Classics Bumblebee as Skids?
I still can't get over that horrible horrible Blaster repaint from Cyb Soundwave. Awefull.
And I know a fig that they could release as a G1 character right now without any repainting! (I infact use him as this character now!) Cyb. Landmine as Scoop!
They could also release the likes of C.Smokescreen again, E. Inferno as so on. Although hopefully we'll get a Prowl repaint Smokescreen.

I'd rather not see any repaints, thanks. But as they are going to happen, I'd rather they stick within the series. Bumblebee as Glyph and/or Tap-Out (probably as a store exclusive as they wouldn't have the wide appeal of "proper" characters); Rodimus remolded (different roof and arms) and painted blue as Blurr; Mirage as Drag Strip (preferably with a new head, which they should have done for Cliffjumper); Grimlock as Transmetal Megatron. Megatron as Browning, anyone?

*Launches computer-guided neutron missile at Doc and his love of Wheelie* *intercepts Neutron missile and unleashes an Itano Circus of mini-missiles, shooting it down* I actually agree with Nigel to a degree. There is very little from outside of Classics that would look right alongside either Classics or the upcoming Universe new molds. However, there are one or two that I think you might get away with - Autovolt from Galaxy Force might make a decent Bluestreak in my opinion. I'd actually be inclined to do an olive drab version of Movie Landmine (with a new head mold) as Hound. Gives him a more modern real-world alt-mode, and one that is suited to his forward reconnaisance role. Karl

The world of Transformers comics and cartoons are full of weird and wonderful clones of Starscream in different colours. It's true. And as we are painfully aware, Hasbro and Takara have been using a couple of those colour schemes for Starscream repaints. Be they the moulds of the original Starscream, Action Master Starscream or Classics and so on.
Since we already have Sunstorm and Acid Storm, what others would you like to see? And what name would you give it?
I would like to see the Blitzwing-coloured Starscream from the Marvel UK comics turned into a toy, myself*.
*Can you find out which issue that's from?

You g!t. I was gonna do this when I reviewed Henkei TC & SW later.
Obviously western versions of those 2.
Then G2 SS & Ramjet (obviously using the altered mold)
Then we've got the previous black and ghost (clear) versions.
There's never been a red Decepticon jet made has there ?
Anyone seen the episode that Sunstorm and Acidstorm were in ? What others were in there ?

I want the full set of Animated Starscream clones. (Not necessarily as Voyagers because of the size and cost. Activators would be fine.)

One of the Predator jets was red, I think.
Actually, Ph!l: where/how did you get your Henkei! Henkei! TC and SW from? I am interested in a set.

Starscream G1 Thundercracker Skywarp Pretender Starscream Actionmaster Starscream Actionmaster Thundercracker Starscream G2 Ramjet G2 - These two were done as entries for Botcon 07's custom contest and look awesome. Starscream Machine Wars Thundercracker Machine Wars - I agree with Phil Acid Storm works very well for this version. Skywarp Machines And throw in by association Megatron and Megaplex Machine Wars
And I'd like to see all the animated cones done as Activators.
Ok I realise this doesnt answer the original question, as I've only focused on the toys.
The Blitzwing one sounds great. Wasn't there a Bruticus and or Onslaught version in the cartoon?

I have to say that I don't really recall any of the comic/cartoon random Starscream doubles well enough to remember their colour schemes. They just haven't made any impression on me at all.
That said, there are a few real F-15 colour schemes I would love to see on a Starscream toy - the JSDF anniversay Red/White and Blue/White colour schemes from a couple of years back would be quite nice. (Hasbro actually gave a tribute to one of the real-world colour schemes I was quite fond off when they released Classics Starscream in a scheme very similar to the early F-15 prototypes right back at the start of classics.) Something like the blue/yellow scheme of the Blue Angels would be quite nice (except that Classics Treadbolt seems to have got that one).
I've just realised that I'm wildly off-topic here. Apologies, my mind tends to wander these days. I blame my age.

Yeah, I got mine from Hydra too, but not via ebay, I have his e-mail addy if you want it Graham. He's known in the fandom for his Japanese translations [did some work in Ark vol. 2 for example]. Or just go to his site, Black Gears and sign up for the mailing list. He offers all the Japanese exclusives [convention or otherwise] for decent prices through that list, well worth keeping an eye on.

So Universe did a couple of comic packs (sadly not in UK release though, ah well). You had Ratbat v Springer with a pack-in of The War Within #2, and Roadbuster V Dirge with a pack-in of parts 4-5 of Target:2006. What a great idea. If you want, these can be War Within and Target:2006 toys! And it's nice to see the UK comic get some love in the toy line at last!
I'd like to see more of these if/when Universe returns. What characters/comics combo would you like to see? What moulds would make good repaints for them?

It was such a shame the 2-packs never came out over here. Fantastic figures all of them, AND with comics. More stuff needs to come with comics or at least stories, that was one of the things that really got me into lines when I was little.
I'd rather any future packs were a bit smaller. I'd love to see an Impactor (Hero Megatron repaint/remold?) and Rack'N'Ruin (some of the energon combiner limbs maybe?)
Of course, the comcis would also need to be self-contained, or give the kids a chance to get all of them. That was my main issue with the 2-packs released, the comic choices were odd.

I agree. I am surprised the figures and comics concept was'nt executed earlier. Beast Wars only did a booklet one off, but the Target: 2006 and War Within stuff makes a lot more sense and ups the sales of current IDW comics/Marvel reprints a little.
The Spotlight comics would be ideal for single figures.

An Ultra Magnus V Galvatron pack would be a no-brainer (plenty of Marvel issues to choose from). Not sure what would make a good Galvatron toy though. Maybe the tank Unicron?

Xaaron and Impactor are musts. Not sure 'bout molds though, esp for Xaaron. How 'bout some older classic UK stories- Man of Iron: Jazz and Thundercracker, maybe the same mold as Botcon Jazz for Jazz painted right, and Uni Thundercracker. Enemy Within: Brawn and Starscream, a modified Energon Inferno as Brawn (I like Brawn large) and Uni Starscream. Aspects of Evil: Energon Shockblast with a smaller left arm as Shockwave. Repaint Energon Scorponok in G1 colours. Energon Ravage would make a great Carnavac with a new head, for a Time Wars issue. I would also love love love an Ultra sized War Within Megatron (and Optimus while I'm at it), realise that that would involve a new mold, but one can dream! Repaint an Energon Strongarm as Gears and stick him with a Spiderman figure! Yeah Baby!

Star Wars has done a few of these. The only things I can see holding them back is not having the exact toys used within. Though Universe/Classics may help cure this. I'd have thought repacks with Marvel comics would be easy enough .....

It just struck me that Universe inferno seriously blinged out in silver and gold chrome might just work as Xaron. The alt mode is a bit to earth but on the plus side with no ladder and a suitably painted hose thing looking more like a cannon along with and the shiney it probably wont be screaming fire engine.
More than enough at least half decent Impactor options.

Phil's review threads got me thinking about guys that haven't been repainted, and what repaints could come from them. I'm firing up the ol' GIMP, so shout out ideas, and also toys that are applicable. I'm just listing the ones off the top of my head first. Never been repainted:EnergonKicker/High Wire Tow Line Wing Saber Grimlock / Swoop Optimus Prime Sharkticon Alpha Q Slugslinger (kinda) Demolishor CybertronDirt Boss Unicron Supreme Starscream (hurr hurr hurr) Dark Scorponok (does he count?) Menasor Metroplex Primus AnimatedBlackarachnia Blitzwing Blurr Bulkhead (Voyager and Leader) Jazz Jetfire/Jetstorm Megatron (Deluxe, Voyager) Optimus Prime (Deluxe x2, Voyager, Supreme HURR HURR) Arcee Snarl Prowl (Original, Samurai) Sentinel Prime Swindle Swoop Waspinator Anyway the first idea was one suggested by Nick Roche at Auto Assembly, namely Jetstorm and Jetfire into Rack'N'Ruin. They can also pass for G2 Decepticon troopers

Never been repainted:
Energon Kicker/High Wire ?
Tow Line Didnt he get redone as Ratchet and Ironhide or does the new head mean it doesnt coulnt as repaint?
Wing Saber?
Grimlock / Swoop Do these guy match up at all with the any of the cassette combiners? Otherwise Swoop as Divebomb.
Optimus Prime - always thought the leader class version would have made a much better Ultra Magnus, car carrier, combines with trailer (sort of) and just has the right proportions. Open chest works to. The vehicles could have easily have been painted up to match arm and leg colour schemes. If in doubt get combined prime and blutak a Ultra Magnus helmet on in place of the prime heads. So it would need a new head but thats close enough to a repaint.
Sharkticon Alpha Q Slugslinger (kinda) Demolishor
No ideas
Cybertron Dirt Boss - Pre Beast Wars Tarantualas (Botcon 2006). Kup for Botcon 2009. Unicron - I keep thonking about sticking some legs and a litle turtle head on to MacUnicron. I suddenly want to do that to the Armada version and even to this version. More sensibly Bludgeon.
Quickmix hasnt he been repainted?
Supreme Starscream (hurr hurr hurr) Actionmaster Thundercracker. Dark Scorponok (does he count?) Doublepunch, its almost there, just add pink.
Menasor - Omega Spreem Metroplex - Had the idea of Turbomaster by adding helicopter blade and new head. Primus - A football, World Cup 2010 promotion. Imagine how many kids would break their feet.
Most of those probably need remoulding to work though.

Animated
Megatron either of the smaller two as Straxus
voyager Prime as Emirate Xaron (the vehicle mode is turned around so it sort of looks like a tank if you squint.
Leader Bulkhead Impactor
The Twins as RacknRuin
The deluxe Prime with a mouth as thunderclash
Leader Megatron - Whirl?
Ultra Magnus (I know hes done, but) Pyro
Bumblebee - Bumblejumper/sedan
Prowl - the obvious Smokescreen and Silverstreak. Less obvious Actionmaster Prowl based on the bike colours.
Samurai Prowl - Pretender Vroom
Waspinator - Buzzsaw
Ratchet - Ironhide
Jazz - take your pic, just about any bot with the front of a car on their chest

I was thinking Energon Grimlock/Swoop as Beastbox/Squawktalk. Grey is a bit hard to photoshop tohugh.
Yes, Tow Line did get repaints, I completely forgot about them. Not sure if remolded Con exclusives should count though.
Yes, you're right, Quickmix got a Cybertron repaint.
We're getting a green repaint of Bumblebee as Wasp (apparently) with no head remold so it looks a bit odd. We're also getting an Ironhide repaint from the new Ratchet, so another one seems redundant.
I did see someone mock up Animated Deluxe Prime as Kup, and it looked amazing. I will try to find it!

There are a few more Cybertron figures who haven't been repainted at all yet. The scout class Scattorshot, Backstop, Brimstone and Wreckloose have all been neglected too. If you don't count Botcon figures and Japanese releases then Snarl, Thunderblast and the Giant Planet Team haven't had Western market repaints either, nor have Energon Insecticon or Divebomb. And if you consider Crumplezone/Dark Crumplezone and Inferno/Roadblock as separate figures due the significant number of new parts between them then none of them have been repainted either (not counting the original Crumplezone's use as Botcon Primal). As for repaints I'd like to see right at the top of the list is Cybertron Dirt Boss as Gears. I think it would work surprisingly well: i441.photobucket.com/albums/qq135/celerytower/dirtbossintogears.jpgi441.photobucket.com/albums/qq135/celerytower/dirtboss.jpgI think the truck mode is a good match, the colours look good on the robot mode and the scanning eyepiece thingy Dirt Boss has nicely represents Gears' infrared vision ability. Out of the neglected list I'd also like Cyb Snarl as BW Silverbolt, E-Insecticon as Bombshell, Slugslinger as G1 Slugslinger and E-Demolishor as Targetmaster Landfill (complete with a brown paint wash to make him look really filthy). Oh, and even though he's had a repaint I'd like Cyb Quickmix in G1 Quickmix colours (Cyb version is wearing Scoop's) with his Minicon done in Ricochet colours since Cyb Stripmine was done up as Boomer. I'd also dearly love Energon Prime as Ultra Magnus with the Prime ears on the super mode hat-thing replaced with U-Mag style ear pipes and for the version of the head mould with the mouth to be used if a new small robot head was out of the question As for Animated figures I'd kill for Blitzwing in Flywheels colours as they would be so perfect for him. Blitwing turns into a jet and a tank with multiple personalities just like Flywheels did plus the colours would look really sharp on him. I'd like his missiles cast in clear blue plastic so that you could mix and match with the fiery missiles that come with the original colour Blitzwing. I'd also like Jazz done in Stepper/RiD Hotshot colours and Prowl done up as Action Master Rad as in the right colours he'd be a dead ringer for him.

Oh wow, that is a very nice Gears! Crumplezone hasn't been repainted, but he's had a remold and a convention remold, so it kinda feels like he has even though he hasn't. He'd make a good Apeface. Mixing it up a bit, how about Cybertron Deluxe Megatron as Xaaron? Maybe, maybe...
