Um..... If it's a different size it ain't a repaint.
Hasbro have been working with the same character in different size classes for a few years now:
Mega & Supreme Cheetor Dlx & Ultra Jetstorm Leader & Spychanger Optimus & Magnus ? & Spychanger Scourge dlx & Spychanger X-Brawn Superbase & Supercon Armada Optimus Leader & Dlx Energon Optimus Leader & Mega/Ultra Energon Megatron Supreme & Voyager Cybertron Starscream
at that point the Legends size comes in making smaller versions of characters and then nearly every leader class Movie toy has had a smaller version made.

So, we're asking which characters should be rescaled? I'll let Shockprowl field this one!

Largest in the same mould i can say is Classics Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus.
Next after that would be Encore Skywarp and Thundercracker along with C-22 Starscream.
After that i would have Classics Starscream, Skywarp, Acid Storm, Generations Starscream, and Thundercracker (preordered). If you count slight-deviations, Dirge and Thrust as well.

But should Hasbro make sure they have a difefrent picture ion the box if its draw art - or is it ok if they just recolour the original image of the character they are repainting.

Thinking some more about this and the only reason I don't own so many multiples over deluxe size is that most of the time they get repainted as the same character. What was the last leader or Supreme to be repainted as a new character? (besides Megatron to Galvatron)
Omega Supreme to Sentinel and was that the same Character still? Leader Primes don't even become Magnus or Nemesis.

Leader Primes don't even become Magnus or Nemesis. I've often wondered that! Maybe it's to do with Dreamworks owning the designs, and they can only be attributed to that particular character? Who knows!

Who knows! I would imagine due to the cost of the Leader price-point, they want to make it a recognisable, marketable character rather than something else, hence 'Nightwatch Prime' rather than a different character.

That, also.

But that then begs the question why they don't try to make larger toys bigger parts of the show/supporting media?
The movie has fewer chances to do that, but Animated seemed to go actively against such logic. One of the arguments fans were using against Ultra Magnus repainted as Motormaster was that in the show it was stated Magnus customised his own body so it was totally unique. They had the elite guard they could have introduced Roadbuster as Magnus' brother of bodyguard or double or something and made a whole new character.

So, we're asking which characters should be rescaled? I'll let Shockprowl field this one! HA HA!!!! YES YES YES!!!! Well, the Classics Strike Planes are tooooo small. Stand one next to, say, Classics Jazz. Only the top of the strike plane's pointy bits (correct name for the pointy bits please Karlos) come to the top of Jazz's head, not the Plane's actual head. They just look too small. Classics Optimus Prime is a smidge too small also. Classics Cyclonus and Scourge could have done with being voyager. Grimlock, in both MP and Classics worlds, should be much larger, pref as large as Optimus and Megatron. Straxus should have been a voyager. The list goes on. I think baaaaasically what I'm trying to say is that different characters fit a certain size in relation to other characters, for the purposes of interaction (ie fighting). To go back to the Strike Planes, the G1 Decepticons were always outnumbered in the early years, quite dramatically in the '84 line, by the Autobots. But the fact that the Planes were larger seemed to go some way to offset the numerical disadvantage. Oh, not every character should be larger, Bumblebee should be smaller, it fits his character. Er, what was the question again?

I am presuming that you mean the leading edges of the two air intakes, rather than the V-stabds, H-Stabs, wings, or nosecones....? :-) Karl

Air intakes! Gotta be air intakes, at the sides of their heads.
You always come through for me, Karlos.

We only seem to get
Dark Convoy, Nemesis Prime etc
black repaints of Hero toys but what about if we had [forgetting shatter glass here - which was convention done story line while Dark Convoy has been toy store release in Japan] Decepticon charaters repainted has heroes?
the only close we have been to this is the Rescue Force.
this is a line where we get to buy the toys in UK toy shops not convention only line.
Which characters would you pick?

They should have reapianted Beast Wars Waspinator as Bumblebee. Swap the purple for black on BW Buzzsaw and you'd be there.
BW Megatron was repainted as BM Dinobot T-Wrecks.
All 3 Cyberjets had Autobot repaints. Three of the BM Vehicon basics + dlx Jetstorm re-emerged as RID Autobot toys.
I'll have a think for some more.....

Machine Wars Cyberjets? G2 Cyberjets, as mentioned above but haven't the MW Flipchanger Jets always been Decepticon?
Aquaspeeders: 8 in Europe, 4 Autobot, 4 Decepticon. The Decepticon moulds weren't released in the US and 3 of the Autobots became Decepticons.

philstfreviews.site11.com/#RID and scroll down to deluxe <broken record>First UK RID case was 3 lots of Car Brother 1, 3 lots of Car Brother 2 and 2 lots of Car Brother 3. Surely 2 of each of the car brothers and one of each of the vs packs would have been better? </broken record>

I'll give you one that should have been done a few times over: Armada Wheeljack. Mend the Autobot symbol and swap the black & white for: Red & Black as Sideswipe Yellow & Black as Sunstreaker White & Red as Red Alert White & Grey as Armada Autobot WheeljackArmada Cyclonus was done in green as a Springer hommage but was still a Decepticon. <broken record 2>Stunticons should be Autobots </broken record 2>

There's your problem right there, the molded autobot symbol. They could either mend that, OR they could give someone else a new head, and I think the new head wins out every time.

If Shockwave was coloured blue - could it pull off being a Whirl toy? Also G2 Megatron.2 could make a good Guzzle instead of Bludgeon. I forgot about the cyberjets.

Or flatten it like they did to Hoist's Autobot symbol when they made Ransack. Whatever there's a mine of repaints in that mould which is better than many Armada toys and has never had a generally available repaint.

The earliest on I can think of is in 1989 where Micromaster Tailwind becomes Hothouse & Whisper becomes Grounshaker (the first Autobot repainted as Decepticon is at the same time). There's a few Action Master faction swaps after that: but only Axer becoming Circuit is a decepticon to autobot one.
