Many of my criticisms must now be retracted now I know that a character was in fact the KGBeast!!! That had passed me by when watching.

Using this film I have introduced a colleague to the concept of the KGBeast. I may have broken him. My work is done.

Ah the KGBeast.
A classic. Such a camp costume as well.

Finally saw it. Really, really liked it. A few quibbles, but it delivered very much for me. I just wish that the ending hadn't been spoiled by the 2nd trailer.
I'm just wondering what the deal with the horse wandering in the dust cloud was about, seemed like a really strange directorial decision.

I have still not found an explanation for the random scene of Superman pulling that boat on the unbreakable chain.

Probably another Bruce Wayne dream sequence thrown in. What's one more going to hurt?

I have still not found an explanation for the random scene of Superman pulling that boat on the unbreakable chain. Have you forgotten his fishing exploits in 'Man of Steel'? Probably some wanky metaphorical reference. You'll believe a man can fish! -Ralph

It's not a 'good' film as such but enjoyable tosh. It's so serious it tips over into parody at times.

I doubt it. The film he's in currently passed $800m worldwide this week. It's not a flop!

The issue is that despite being the 5th biggest comic book movie, there was an insane amount riding on it due to everything it was setting up. Also a huge chunk of the box office take was during the first week, it fell off dramatically more than that, indicating future films may not see nearly as much success. But I guess we will really tell once Suicide Squad comes out!!

I'm unclear how any film with a box office tally of at least $800m (and still in theatres) can be considered as anything less than a financial success (leaving aside any opinions as to quality). You can only get those kind of numbers if lots and lots and lots of people really want to see your film.

What I mean is re. Jersey Girl is that it got panned by critics and Kevin Smith reacted by saying that it was not a movie for them or the mass market. In the same vein, I don't feel this movie is for the comic book movie crowd that has developed starting with Raimi's Spider-Man films and into Robert Downey Jr's Iron Man... It's trying to do something very, very different and a lot of people wanted more of the Disney/Marvel formula.
It's not without problems, I would have had no issue with Lex - it comes across as an act to me (although this would have been better if during the helipad scene Eisenberg had played him straight), and Lex's motivations towards the end aren't really very clear... That really should have been left as something for another movie. And the setting up of other franchise characters was really very forced. We didn't need the videos, the logos were enough. I also feel it could have been helped with some more Batman/Superman being hero's in their own right earlier on. All we got was one Batman scene, a burning building in South America and a Superman montage and this would have helped with those people who wanted more action and superheroiness.
Batman's collateral damage fits with his arc. He's becoming harder on criminals and losing control, becoming the very thing he has issue with. He comes to this realisation during the fight with Superman, hence not branding Lex at the end. Or maybe I'm reading too much into it, but it's certainly a point that seems to be lost on a lot of reviewers who simply moan about it's just the mention of a name that turns things around, rather than what that mention may help Bruce realise.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to the garage to work out with some tyres.
All that aside, allegedly they're reshooting some Suicide Squad scenes to make it a little less serious in places after some of the reaction to BvS.

That $800 ticket sales, in the US most of the money goes to the studios, in the rest of the world its something like 10 or 20% of the ticket price. Throw in promotional costs and they are probably only just past breaking even. The biggest problem is that most of that money was made in the first week, ticket sale dropped off quickly after that which is most likely because people aren't going back to see it and people who didnt rush out to see it are seeing at best mixed reviews and opinions of it so are passing on it. They've barely passed Deadpool which was R rated(and hasnt passed it yet purely in US takings) and GOTG a film about character no one knew anything about. DCs top tier characters should be doing considerably better than this.

It's in line with drop-offs from similar films (Box Office Mojo runs excellent analysis on this type of thing). Like it or not it's a financially successful film. I doubt anyone at Warner Bros High Command is weeping into their cocktails.

Massive, massive opening numbers and sharp drop. This film is a success, but it's supposed to be the first film to tentpole a cinematic universe, and it was only a success before people started watching it. And looking at the Box Office Mojo articles, they all talk about what a massive drop the film has had week on week.

Saw Christopher Reeve Superman on ITV this afternoon. It puts right all that is wrong in the new Superman films.

I'VE FINALLY SEEN IT THIS VERY DAAAAYYYYYYYY!!!!!!! IT'S GOING TO BE THE BEST FILM OF ALL TTTTIIIIIIIIIMMMMEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well.... it's not, perhaps, the "best film of all ttttiiiiiiiiimmmmeeee.... BUT I BLOODY LOVED IT. Yes, it has plenty of flaws, which I will explore in many posts to come ('cos I'm busy preparing curry at the mo), but I really liked it. I smiled several times during it. It's was great. I left Star Wars feeling -aphuew-, I left DOJ feeling, "Okay, yeah!" And I like the dark! I like it. I liked it in MoS (hated the ending and ridiculous lack of interest to collateral damage). Dark is... ok. Moody. OHMYGOD. ARRRRGH. YIKES..... BATMAN V SUPERMAN RULES!!!!

I thought Batfleck was endearingly awful. The least convincing cinematic Batman yet. It was like watching my dad trying to be Batman.
He is so bad he is mesmerising to watch though, especially at the end. It was a great bad performance.
