ANDUUUUU!!!!!! HE INSULTS THE BATFLECK!!!!!!!! D E S T R O Y H I M I don't insult him. As I said I don't think he's believable in the role but is very watchable in a rubbish sort of way. Sometimes I can still enjoy what I think is a bad performance. -Ralph

You need to bear in mind that the character has been Batman for years. It's taken its toll on him mentally and this spills over to his behaviour as Bruce Wayne.
This is not a film like many of the MCU ones where everything is laid out for the audience (except for the forced JL stuff), you need to infer character and their past experiences from the dialogue and behaviour we are actually shown.
Similarly in MoS... There's the whole thing of how Clark was raised and his reaction to bullies... And how one bully then changes after being saved, those childhood experiences shape Clark's response to Zod and friends who are now bullying the earth.

Yes I had worked all that out from the very obvious plot. I am capable of inferring things. I just didn't think he played it well. I always thought I was watching Ben Affleck being sad rather than a world-weary Batman.

Saw it. Visually gorgeous. Gal Gadot has made me a believer in her place as Wonder Woman. Like Batfleck, but not the general writing for the character. The rest is pish.

What? There's another version? How on Earth can there be an R-rated version of a film with Superman in it??? That makes no sense!

New perspectives...
Batman is so mental because of Robin's death at Joker's hand.
The whole mother thing, Bats realises that if Clark's mum dies at the hands of criminals, he may have as large a personal vendetta against crime as he does... But with Supes' powers it would have worse consequences than Batman's actions.

I like that, Stom'.
I think the film lacked a moment where Superman had a realisation about why Batman does what he does. It need just a moment of understanding from Superman.

So the Blu-ray version of the film is apparently half an hour longer than the cinema/DVD cut. I've seen extended cuts turn previously bad films into good films (where the cutting for cinema audience attention spans turned an otherwise good story into a rushed one) though that's not always the case. I have to say I'm curious.

At least they're playing fair and not releasing one version first and then when that's sold all it's going to releasing the uncut version, like the Middle Earth films and Days of Future Past.

Pretty much, but the reason for stopping the fight runs much deeper than just the name, which is all most detractors seem to focus on.

Oh I know they were attempting something far deeper but (like the rest of the movie as well) it was dreadfully executed resulting in just comedy instead.

And therein lies the great irony. Batman vs Superman is not a good film. On a technical level the flaws in the execution of it are legion. But nevertheless it is also a far more ambitious film than any of the other superhero movies I have seen this year. Whilst X-Men Apocalypse wisely disregards the botched Huxleyist overtones of Apocalypse in the comics, Batman vs Superman is primarily driven by an attempt to view superheroes through a Nietzchien lens. The "The World is introduced to the Superman" caption at the beginning of the film is a very clear statement of intent. As is the discussion around whether Superman is to be bound by the wished of the US people, or does his power give him the right to do as he wishes. But it isn't just Superman who that logic is applied to . The film is attempting to portray a Batman who has believed that his superior moral certainty puts himself beyond human morality and laws - that he has the right to define morality. Likewise Lex Luthor actually tries to explain the fact that his superior intellect makes him Nietzche's Superman in the library dedication speech. But he falters because the existence of Clark makes him doubt himself - the entirety of his plan in the film is driven not so much by jealousy of Superman's power, but a need to demonstrate that it is irrelevant, that Lex's intellect makes him his superior and therefore beyond the moral constraints of Humanity, Kryptonians or Dieties.
It is why Batman vs Superman is such a frustrating film. The things it wants to explore are quite interesting, and - if we must deconstruct Superheroes, probably a very valid tack to take - but it has no real idea of how to portray them and give them weight. So we end up with a treatise that starts its thought, can't finish it and ends up losing itself in pastiche of Western Christian religious art without actually being able to adequately make the link between that and what has gone before.
By contrast Captain America: Civil War, which suffers from a similar inability to carry through its own much smaller philosophical debate, is far more coherent in its evasions and so gets away with more. And X-Men film just plays the "we're a family" card early in and steers mostly clear of having anymore depth, achieving a glossy but fundamentally empty shell.

Watched this last night. I hated it. I was really looking forward to it as well and I tend to enjoy the darker superhero elements, it's a relief from Captain Americas chirpy faced optimism and Iron Man's irritating smugness, but I just couldn't get on with it at all. The transformation of them being mortal enemies to best pals in the space of 10 seconds is annoying and couldve had a short conversation between them to at least set it up.
Affleck was a good Bruce Wayne but didn't enjoy his Batman. Hated Luthor. Liked Alfred, Batman being a psycho, the Batwing and Wonder Woman though.
