I understand the intent of the film perfectly well. I also find it unintentionally hilarious.

Watched this last night. I hated it. I was really looking forward to it as well and I tend to enjoy the darker superhero elements, it's a relief from Captain Americas chirpy faced optimism and Iron Man's irritating smugness, but I just couldn't get on with it at all. The transformation of them being mortal enemies to best pals in the space of 10 seconds is annoying and couldve had a short conversation between them to at least set it up. Affleck was a good Bruce Wayne but didn't enjoy his Batman. Hated Luthor. Liked Alfred, Batman being a psycho, the Batwing and Wonder Woman though. Looking back, I believe this to be BigB's landmark 1000th post.

Just finished watching season 1 of Supergirl on Blu-ray. Going into it, I had assumed it was set in the same universe as Man of Steel and BvS:DoJ, since that is the only current screen incarnation of Superman. However, the tone of the series is sooooo different to the DC movies, and I can't find any concrete on-line evidence to support them being linked, which pleases me. All the characters in Supergirl are likeable and interesting, and it is full of idealism and hope. It's very, very Buffy-esque, in the best possible way. Thoroughly recommended.

Martin Glad you enjoyed it - I kind of thought when I saw you'd gambled the money on it that it would turn out to be your kind of thing. I loved the first season - probably my favourite of the DC TV shows to be honest, ahead of The Flash. I did really enjoy the character interplay, and I thought it did the "surrogate/actual family" thing so very well. I think it had me fully on-board from the moment on the Catco roof in the opener - which really sold the Four-Color "superpowers are fun and awesome" tone. Looking forward to seeing what they do with Clark next season. Given how well they nailed Kara, I am hopeful we can get a good "classic" take on her cousin out of this. Karl

Interesting. I have no idea who that is, but as long as the tone remains as in season 1, I'm sure he'll be a vast improvement on the current movie Superman. The playful exchanges of text messages we saw between Kara and Clark in season 1 did not fit with his current big screen persona.
There's so much to like in this series. Wisecracking comedy in the office, J'onn J'onzz the Awesome, the 247th incarnation of General Morshower, even frickin' Dean Cain and Helen Slater as Kara's adoptive parents. They haven't held back on any front.

I thought it was a great series. It's the only DC series I've wanted to watch. When I saw the Superman my first thought was that he doesn't look like a Superman, but then I also thought it's important in this series that he doesn't overshadow her, so it's probably better that he isn't a typical chiseled supermodel type.

I must say Superman's appearances in season 1 were handled... imaginatively. Either shown in flashback with the sun behind him, or blurry through the eyes of someone in the process of passing out, or from a very great distance, or seeing just his boots. I think they were running out of ways to not show us his face or let us hear his voice.
Kara said in one episode "I thought they only wore masks in that other city". Although the tones don't quite match, in order to create my optimal DC screen universe in my Blu-ray collection I am choosing to interpret that as referring to Christopher Nolan's Gotham unless forced to do otherwise.
Male superheroes may still dominate the titles of movies, but between Agent Carter and Supergirl, heroines rule the small screen. Roll on season 2.

I still have Agent Carter season 2 to look forward to, and have not yet tried Jessica Jones.
Returning to DC, the Wonder Woman and Justice League trailers look as joyless as Man of Steel and BvS:DoJ.
Suicide Squad is my only ray of hope for the DC movie universe.

As someone who generally prefers the uncut director's version of a film to the abridged version often forced upon cinema-goers, curiosity compelled me to view BvS:DoJ Ultimate Edition, which contains half an hour that was cut out of the theatrical release. This version would raise the film from 14th out of 14 on my league table to perhaps 10th out of 14. The tone remains the same, but the story makes more sense, with characters' attitudes to one another given a lot more more explanation. I would pretty much agree with the following review article: screenrant.com/batman-v-superman-ultimate-edition-reviews-bluray/And here is a full list of differences between the two cuts: screenrant.com/batman-v-superman-ultimate-edition-changes-differences/Martin

I loved the first season - probably my favourite of the DC TV shows to be honest, ahead of The Flash. Picked up a free promo DVD in HMV yesterday containing the pilot episodes of Gothem, Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow, the last three of which were new to me. Based on the pilots, I'd rate The Flash second after SG, for largely similar reasons - likeability of lead character, sense of fun. Arrow would be third, followed by Gotham, which I'd already seen on terrestrial TV. Legends was terrible. Martin
