I know for a standard show nothing you said would be overly spoilery or at all(except to people like me who want as close to zero information about a show as possible beyond the most basic premise) but they clearly made the choice not to reveal a lot of that information right away. For me anyway, if its backstory or story arch stuff not revealed in the first episode its spoiler territory. Having recently rewatched "The Return," I been thinking a lot about this and come to the conclusion I think you're correct. I appologize

So I got the Steven Universe Monopoly. There is a lot of care in this. The cards consist of storyboard art instead of standard artwork, and some pretty deep meaningful references. This game was either put together by the crewniverse, by hardcore fans, or they *really* researched the hell out of it. I'm actually thinking it was put together by the crewniverse, given the storyboard art, and some exceptionally advanced references that weren't common knowledge until a month ago Fusion Card: Malachite is attacking the Watermelon Stevens! Advance to Mask Island. If you pass GO collect $200." Oh i wish i had someone to play with

So I got the Steven Universe Monopoly. Oh cool! It's a shame the main image looks like generic stock imagery though!

Are you talking about the box art? I don't think it is. I've not seen these images anywhere outside of this game (not that SU has strong representation in merchandice. Stock art would be uncommonly seen). And the Property images are backgrounds from the actual show.

I watched the first two episodes last night. I see a glimmer of something that could develop, and will continue with more. I'm listening to you saying I need to push on through the early episodes.

Hurrah!
Seriously consider Blueshift Order though! I really had to be pushed through some of the early ones, especially 3-6!

I will do it the way you suggest, then go back if I get hooked. I kinda see the potential so I'm not going to stop yet.

Most people apparently got hooked on 'Giant Woman', I was on 'Steven the Swordfighter' which whilst isn't a great ep overall has a fantastic bit which sort of lays out how the show is going to deal with things. But that's ep 16!!

Also a lot of early episodes contradict more established things from later episodes. They weren't quite sure of their mythology or character portrayals yet.
About half of "Too Many Birthdays" no longer even works. (That's not to say it's not still a funny episode). But Pearl states she likes pie, which goes to say she likes to eat. Which completely contradicts later that she can't stand eating. At all.
But yeah, the early episodes are more enjoyable once you're hooked.
My opinion, it's Connie's introduction when the show starts to kick into gear. And Giant Woman is about when it starts getting good.

Episode one does seem odd in that there's no real introduction to the concept or characters. It feels like there's a pilot missing. All you get is that Steven doesn't know how to use his jewel without the cat biscuits triggering something in him.

All you get is that Steven doesn't know how to use his jewel without the cat biscuits triggering something in him. Apparently episode two was the one made first, and it feels much more like a 'first episode' to me. Actually there was a pilot, but it was more of a 'proof of concept' thing, with completely different animation style and designs. It wasn't broadcast, and the plot later gets reused in the series proper. Really interested to hear your thoughts on future eps, as long as no-one spoilers you!!

In a followup to Pinwig's earlier query about a pilot, here's the pilot designs. So glad they got revamped for the actual show!

I wouldn't mind seeing Amethyst in that look. It really works for her (a past version. Maybe when she was hanging out with Vadalia). But the rest, even Steven's are rubbish.

Hmm. Interesting. I watched the lion episode the other day, will do more this weekend. Yaaaay Yeah the Lion ep is okay. Mainly you need to watch it because otherwise you'll be 'where did this pink lion come from???'later. Jetty is right in that you probably need to watch ep 7 Bubble Buddies too, as that's the introduction of Connie, though it's really another 'monster of the week' that plagues the early ones!

You know, Steven views fusion as this wonderful, intimate thing between two people who love and trust one another. He's aware of bad fusions (malachite), and fusions that don't work well, due to bad matches even if the people in it love and trust each other (sugalite), But he's never experienced such a thing first hand. Stevonnie and Smoky Quartz have been exceptionally perfect fusions, because Steven and Connie, and Steven and Amethyst complement each other so well. I think an interesting story would be Steven trying to help Lapis, trying to convince her that not all fusions are bad, and talks her into fusing with him. But we know that Lapis was the abusive one in her fusion. Malachite turned her into someone she doesn't want to be. She liked controlling Jasper. She liked the power of the fusion. She's said as much, and she hates this part of herself. Steven, wanting to show her fusion isn't really like this, fuses with her. And it's great. ...at first. Until Lapis won't let them unfuse. She likes it too much. Steven sets out to show Lapis that not all fusions are bad, but instead finds out that not all fusions he's in will be good ones. And not because Lapis is terrible, or that they don't care about each other, just that they're not as good a match as Steven thought.

New theory: Blue Diamond will be the Diamond Steven manages to sway. That, or she will be the the final villain to overcome when she finds out Steven is the reincarnation of the Rose Quartz that shattered her beloved. But she seems swayable, and like she almost cares.
