Im gonna have to agree with Jetty that ending was a little bit iffy. It could have been so much worse though. Spoiler As it is it felt like the show quickly shooing Spinel off stage, but at least they had Steven point out how difficult the diamonds are. If not for that he would have been behaving almost as badly as his mother.
As it is, its doesnt feel like Spinel is best off going with the diamonds or that Steven should believe that it is. So felt a little iffy still Otherwise it was good. I thought the story was pretty strong, songs weren't bad but the series has probably had better. Spinel had the potential to be a disaster of a character, the 1930s cartoon character vibe can be grating even if the character isnt as over the top as Spinel is but thankfully she ended up working well. Her animation capturing that old school style was great.

I've seen some pretty well written breakdowns of the movie on why it had to end the way it did for Spinelle (don't ask me to quote or find them because I don't remember them). But even still, I just doesn't leave me feeling good about it. it just feels to me like shipping off someone who is now just starting to struggle with figuring out who she is, with a bunch of former fascists who up until recently didn't believe gems had any right to individuality, and want her to perform her traditional role.
Like... She's not Steven's problem, nor should she be. But staying on Earth in Little Homeworld with other gems also trying to figure out who they are, would have been the healthiest choice for her. I mean... Human kids would just go bananas for her. She could work for Mr Smiley and make real friends with the visiting kids.

So are the Diamonds. That doesn't mean they moved to Beach City.

To be fair, I have no doubt she'll reappear. This show doesnt like leaving any loose ends.
But that still doesn't mean the ending of the movie suddenly sits better for me.

First four episodes of Steven Universe Future... Without spoilers, I feel like the 11 minute format no longer works. Rarely did SU ever feel condensed, but these sure did. And it made the moral and/or plot of each really on the nose.

First rewatch since the series ended. It's amazing how tight it is in the beginning. And the biggest complaint most people had being how slowly it moves, when that's really not true.
