Twenty years of Beast Machines! TWENTY!
Hmm. Another conversation to be had there. This year's and next year's dates coincide with a certain Mrs P's birthday. Can I pull it off twice?

I enjoyed my Thursday night last week so will probably do the same again next year. However I think I might either bring or borrow a wheelchair. The walk round the lake was a bit much.... If so then I might need a pusher. However .... tmukhub.proboards.com/post/331958/thread

Do you think we are going to get Beastmachines guests next year? This year was G2 style logo but we had no one who had worked on G2 there. (apart from fanfiction)

I saw thursday and Sunday drop to £38 each, but Friday and Saturday were ridiculously priced at £200+ last I saw. But prior to that, like 2 weeks ago every day last weeks was over £200 so I guess an event might have cancelled or lots of people cancelled rooms for one thing or another as they worked out that people who planned to share a room had each booked one. (or something)
Morale of the story, book early, but not too early.
And if that doesnt work, book a refundable room nearby and keep checking the hilton nearer the time.
Oh and hi everybody. I made it home.

Maybe they could call that group who were bizarrely officially the band of Auto Assembly for one year and very quickly found something better to do the following year?

Best known in the Transformers fandom for the original leader of the Dinobots, Berger has reprised the role in the Devastation video game, and more recently in the Machinima Power of the Primes web series. Beyond Grimlock, he has also been the voice of Skyfire (Jetfire), Long Haul, and several others across the franchise's media span. You may also remember him as multiple characters and voices from sibling series to the Transformers - G.I. Joe. Berger's voice can also be heard across the 1980s, 90s, and 00s cartoon series in the likes of Garfield (as Odie), Rugrats, The Angry Beavers, Men in Black, Duckman, Johnny Bravo, Batman Beyond, and Spider-Man, among many, many others. As for video games, he is best known for the Final Fantasy role of Jecht, Eeyore from Kingdom Hearts, and Hunter the Cheetah in the Spyro series. Gregg Berger will be attending the convention all weekend. We look forward to welcoming him and all of you to TFNation 2019. Stay tuned for more updates! Peter is best known in the Transformers fandom for his role in the 2001 Car Robots / Robots in Disguise animated series as the Predacon general Sky-Byte, fond of poetry and held dearly in the franchise. He is also extremely well received by the fan community as a facilitator of comedy, acting, and improvisation workshops, and has attended several conventions across the USA and Europe. You may also recognise his voice acting skills from franchises such as Digimon, Gurren Lagann, Naruto, Bleach, Code Geass, Ghost in the Shell, Trigun, and Street Fighter II - and the man himself from screen appearances in TV series and movies the likes of In The Army Now, Men in Black II, The New Adventures Of Superman, Perry Mason, NYPD Blue, and A Nightmare On Elm Street VI, among many others. Peter Spellos will be attending the convention all weekend. He will also be taking centre stage for a certain special improvised... something… more details on that soon! We look forward to welcoming Peter and all of you to TFNation 2019, as more updates are released from here until August! Calling all convention-goers. It's time to talk accommodation!
This year, the process for booking a TFNation room at the Hilton has changed a little. Please take a moment to read this post, which explains the new system.
1. Discounted rates The Hilton has again offered some brilliant discounts to TFNation attendees:
£72.08 per night for single rooms, including breakfast. £82.38 per night for twin / double rooms, including breakfast
Rooms at these rates usually sell out quickly. So be ready to nab yours when they are released!
2. Family rooms Family rooms are provided at the discretion of the Hilton. Please only book these rooms if you really need one, as many families depend on them.
3. When can I book my room? TFNation tickets will go on sale at 12:00 PM GMT on Saturday 9th February 2019. As soon as you have booked your ticket, our website will give you the option to click through to the Hilton hotel booking page.
4. NEW! Deposit - please read. This year, you will need to pay a deposit at the time of booking. This will be equivalent to the price of one night in your room.
This deposit will be non-refundable, and non-transferable. So it's really important that you only book the room if you are confident you will make the event.
5. Why is the deposit non-refundable? In recent years, both the Hilton and TFNation have noticed some "room blocking". This is where a person reserves a room (or sometimes LOTS of rooms) and then cancels a day or two before the convention. This means other attendees miss out. We're sure you will agree, this isn't nice.
The non-refundable deposit will hopefully deter people from booking a room unless they definitely want it, meaning others will have a better chance of getting their first choice room.
6. How does the booking system work? The Hilton computer is smart, but it's no Teletraan-1. Think of it like a game of connect four. If you want a room for four nights, and all four nights are free, then the computer will be happy. But if ANY one of those four nights is not free, you'll get an error message.
The trick is to start small. Try one day at a time. By process of elimination, you'll see which day is the culprit! Book the nights you can - you've got six months to fill any gaps!
7. Will TFN get any more rooms later? No. They all go on sale at once. But historically, we have always seen some cancellations in the first couple of weeks. So keep checking back because if somebody drops out, you may get lucky and find that room!
8. Alternatives If you're not lucky enough to grab your preferred room at the Hilton, don't panic! You can still have a fantastic time! The NEC area has lots of hotels, all within a short distance of the convention. We will have some information on our website to help you.
Pro-tip! Hotels usually reserve some rooms for public sale. So join Hilton Honors as a backup. Just remember to check the terms of any rooms you book, as they will be different to the TFN deal.
9. Parking We've obtained a great discount for our attendees, with overnight resident's parking for just £9.00 per night. Think of all the Action Masters you'll be able to buy with that saving!
10. Finally... please be nice! Sales day is usually a very busy time, so our team will be working hard to answer all of your questions. All we ask is that you are understanding if there are any difficulties. Bedroom availability and the Hilton website are outside of our control, but we will try out best to help you. But the most important thing is to try not to feel anxious. Even if you don't get your first choice room, you've got plenty of time to plan your trip to TFNation and our lovely community are always happy to provide helpful tips, as are we!
TFNation 2019 will be held at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel from 16th - 18th August 2019. We look forward to seeing you there!

i think its a good move, most of, if not all the rooms that are resold or come on later are people cancelling so you can see the scope of it!

As long as theres still some flexibility for modifying bookings it fine I suppose. Everyone booking rooms will already have purchased non refundable tickets for TFN so for the vast majority it should make much difference (other than finding the extra £70-80 next month). But considering the stress people went through last year I don't know if this change is going to makes things better or worse.

What were the stresses last year?

|
|
Post by blueshift on Jan 17, 2019 21:34:33 GMT
It was mostly that rooms vanished pretty much the second they became available.
Half is due to the sheer number of people booking, but a chunk is due to people block booking a load of rooms (as it is, or was, basically zero risk to do) and then cancelling them later)
I remember in the AA days I forgot to book my hotel once until a few weeks before and still managed with zero issue! That's the price of getting bigger (and better!)

Oh right. I didn't realise. I booked my room on the day the tickets went on sale and didn't have any problems. I'll make sure I don't forget the time!

There is an awful lot of people unhappy with the extra paying out on the olde Twitter.

Post by Andy Turnbull on Jan 17, 2019 23:12:09 GMT
They aren't paying extra though, they are paying more upfront, but nothing more than they actually would by the end of the weekend.
As we stressed every year only book the rooms you need, as they are limited as we won't ever get access to all the rooms the Hilton has no matter what we want to do. They won't do that for any event. It doesn't make any sense for them at all. Problem is people did it anyway, as Matt said there was no penalty for doing so, so why not?
