I can only think of maybe four occasions when I've paid three figures for a TF, and in at least two of those cases it was the TR/Legends red haze. And I was getting more than one robot in those boxes.

I remember when Unicron was $60, and I had to put him on layaway.
Now I paid almost that for Legacy Blitzwing.

I hummed and hawwed for months over getting MP Grimlock when TRU had it as £60 felt like an ourtageous price for just one robot toy.

I remember Jetfire being £80, so it's not much of a jump, all things considered. But even £80 was too rich for my blood. To be fair, I'd probably be willing to pay £80 for Jetfire, simply because....it's Jetfire! Also, looking at some of the old reviews of the Siege Jetfire mould it's a nice, heavy, solid, chunky figure. The cab for Armada Optimus is the same size as Earthrise Prime, and the Armada trailer is ALL Parts-forming for his Powered-Up mode - so I'm guessing most of the cost of the figure is in the trailer. I'd take Earthrise Optimus and trailer anyday. (If I could find one now for less than £100!) |

I didn't enjoy Jetfire at all, really didn't hit the spot. Bits on mine round the chest/cockpit were reluctant to go into the right place when I transformed it.
SkyLynx was OK but didn't feel worth the price.
Rodimus was more like it but the robot wasn't that big.
Motormaster was interesting, especially how they produced a Menasor robot that nearly worked without the car limbs
Optimus feels the first time they've done a largeish robot out the box since Jetfire

It's not without issues, especially comparing the Combat Deck to the original but it's still good.
It is also 3 years old now!

I'm just puzzled. Not commenting on the quality but it's been out twice, plus repaints and none of them are that old. I would also presume the Earthrise and Kingdom releases had a decent production run. The market also seems saturated with G1 Optimii.
I am genuinely surprised it is £££ so soon.

Generations Primes seem to rocket in price when they become unavailable. That chunky CW one did. The Galaxy one did too, just after I decided I wanted it. I don't really get it either. Must be the status of the character.

Thanks for pointing this eBay Optimus out for me, Philip. I popped it on my 'watched items' list yesterday and today the seller offered it to me for £80 (plus £5 for 1st class postage) and, as luck would have it, my Cost of Living payment arrived today, so I jumped at the chance to grab it! |

Brainiac 5 won't finish his anti-lead serum for several centuries yet, so they won't be able to come out until then. Ralph 7 might well come from the Legion's era or afterwards and have travelled back by Time Bubble, been thrown back by the Time Trapper or Glorith... Karl |
