Imagine if LP Soundwave actually was one of those rather than just looking like one. You could eat a Decepticon.
That figure was a massive missed opportunity for me. My missus is a LP fan club member. She's massively into them. She was genuinely interested in the fact that there was going to be a Linkin Park transformer, and it turned out to be so rubbish I couldn't bring myself to buy it. The one time she'd have endorsed a toy purchase!

Having had some time to mull this announcement over, I think I can safely say that I really fucking hate silhouettes. Again.
As for the idea itself, though... Eh. I mean, yes, I don't see a problem with another version of Hot Rod - the existing MP Rodimus is not without flaws. However, there are also plenty of other characters I'd rather see first. Even if you're just going with the '86 movie cast. So, yeah, it's not unnecessary, but it's also far from the front of the queue...

As someone who's very much involved in many real world issues - I campaign for the Greens, raise funds and support for food banks, and my more Wild half took aid directly to Calais herself - I like to moan about silhouettes just to let off a little steam. I am painfully aware that the world sucks - which is why I like to also spend time hiding with my toys. (Although, damn that Roberts for bringing politics to my robots!) ;-)

galvatron, cyclonus and scourge MP would be class! If you don't mind going Third Party, the people at KFC/X-Transbots have already shown monochrome prototypes of their takes on Scourge and Cyclonus in the style of MP figures. They'll be out... at some point. They usually have looong lead times and their pricing is not bad, but as ever for XTB, wait for the reviews. I'm quite chuffed about a new MP Hot Rod coming out. Well for balance then... I like silhouettes! It's nice of Tomy to give us info on upcoming figures before colours and mouldings are finalised.
Also, I ran out of milk and missed my train meaning I had to get one a full 20 minutes later. #reallife

I don't have any Hotrods. MP is too big, classics too ugly rare and pricey, g1 too stiff, animated too animated. If this guy is voyager generations size - I'm in for it.

I have fond memories of the G1 Hot Rod toy as my brother had one, but due to the UK comics have more attachment to Rodimus Prime as a character. Sadly I am absolutely terrified of transforming MP-09...
