Legacy:
Core: Swoop
On the one hand, Core Dinobots!!!!!!!!!!!
On the other, Core Dinobots hampered by a combining gimmick that fatally flawed two of them and disrupted at least one more.
Deluxe: Needlenose
Shrapnel, Bombshell and Beachomber also good but my feeling is this was not Deluxes' best year
Voyager: Tarn/Bludgeon/Vector Prime
Voyager on the other hand played a complete blinder. Loved Tarn, cos I am a pervert, and Bludgeon is the best Generations Bludgeon yet - we may still see better and I'm still VERY fond of the RiD version. And Metalhawk was so much better than t had any right to be: Even Martin bought one! The Lions were nice and Twincast is a major tick off the list.
Possibl the best year for Generations Voyagers in a long time
Leader: Megatron
This was difficult. Ultimately Megatron gets it cos he works out the box, but is inevitably compared to the original. Skyquake OTOH needs modfication to make it work right and I've lost the end of the sword. But, once modified, I've enjoyed Skyquake a lot
Larger Toy: Armada Optimus Prime
Not got Nemesis yet, waiting for sub £100. The Armada Op is REALLY good though, my favouite Commander so far.
Legacy Exclusive: Powerlinx Hotshot.
He has a minicon.
Comics Origins Nova Prime
Fab recolour & remould.
Toxitron
Deluxe: Sideswipe
If in doubt etc He is really good though, they all are, especially Mirage and Staunch.
Voyager: Cloudcover
Slightly surprised at only on Toxitron Voyager TBH
Leader: Grimlock
Toxitron is good..... But Grimlock is pure G2 Juice.
Generations Select: Antagony
Slim pickings from Select this year
Shattered Glass Sideswipe, Whisper & Rodimus
A Sideswipe remould with a Minicon? I look forward to the Armada version down the line.
Buzzworthy Bumblebee:
Legacy Exclusive Deluxe Towline
Multipack: TroopBuilder
STUDIO SERIES 86:
Core: Red Frenzy
STUDIO SERIES Gamer Edition:
Deluxe:
Voyager: Gamer Edition Optimus
Not bought any of these but tempted by the Op. Maybe if it hits sale price.
STUDIO SERIES:
Core: Bumblebee
I await a version in a better shade of yellow and the non battle mask head. We know it'll happen
Deluxe: 86-22 Brawn and if I'm not allowed the single 86 deluxe as a choice, Airazor
Airazor is the closest I've come to buying a proper SS deluxe this year: The only reason I haven't is she's too close to the Kingdom toy. Brawn I did buy and he's very good but hasn't displaced the TR Basic + Titanmaster as my Brawn.
Voyager: 86-23 Autobot Ratchet
Leader: 86-19 Dinobot Snarl
Larger: 86-21 Ultra Magnus
An 86 toy wins over a 2007 Movie Multipack any day but Magnus isn't sparking a lot of joy. Bit too wide, TF looks a nightmare and I think I'm Magnused out over the last ten years
Rise of the Beasts
Battlemaster: Airazor
They're all good: he's superb
Weaponiser: Scorponok with Sandspear
Of the regulars the Primal is the best. The doube scorpion exclusve is better
Deluxe: Airazor
SUPERB. Amazing toy
Voyager: Optimus Prime
Not got one, waiting for right price. Primal and Rhinox look too plain.
The ROTB mainline was the surprise of the year, some superb stuff in there. Best Movie line?
Transformers Crossover: VNR Op
Though I've gt to be honest it didn't blow me away like I thought it would :-(
Transformers Reissue: Hot Rod
Just superb. Love it.
GENERAL:
Worst Toy: & The Buyers Regret Award For The Worst Toy You Bought: SS Core Arcee
Best Toy: ROTB Mainline Airazor
The Pinwig "If I Could Only Keep Five Toys From This Year They'd Be" award ROTB Mainline Airazor, Voyager Tarn, Metal Hawk & Bludgeon & Commander Armada Optimus
Best Older Toy You Bought: Energon Omega Supreme, followed by RID Megabolt Megatron
2023 Toy You're Most Looking Forward To: Tidal Wave

I bought eleven TFs that were released this year, so I will only complete the general bit.
GENERAL:
Worst Toy: & The Buyers Regret Award For The Worst Toy You Bought: All of this year's toys that I bought were good, but I did pick up a 2022 Skullgrin that wasn't very good.
Best Toy: Tarn. Oooh I liked it.
The Pinwig "If I Could Only Keep Five Toys From This Year They'd Be" award: Tarn; Junkheap; reissue Skywarp, Thundercracker, and Shrapnel
Best Older Toy You Bought: A vintage Star Sabre bootleg that made me giggle with glee playing with it.
2023 Toy You're Most Looking Forward To: at the moment its Missing Link Op. I am looking forward to seeing what new ways Hasbro and Takara find to make me buy new versions of toys I already own. G1 Megatron in cartoon colours? G1 Megatron Missing Link version?

All toys released in the UK, US or Japan in 2021 are eligible. Ah, almost caught me out there! I was combing the categories for the mistake, not the preamble!

I'm going to have to leave a lot of categories out as my purchases this year were a bit light on contemporary releases.
Legacy:
Deluxe: Bombshell. I got him cheap, but am actually very taken with him, moreso than with Kickback who I found a bit boring. If I'd bought Beachcomber this year I imagine he'd be in this place, but I didn't so he isn't.
Voyager: Leo Prime. Again, bought cheap in the Pulse clearance, but he's good fun and I never tire of that design.
Toxitron
Deluxe: Sideswipe. A very familiar mould somehow made to bring yet more joy.
Leader: Grimlock. Those colours at last! I haven't even opened my SS86 one yet, but couldn't wait for this one.
Generations Select: Magnificus. Couldn't really be bothered with SS86 Perceptor, happy enough with Titans Return who has colours I prefer, but Magnificus looks fantastic in black with the retooled head.
STUDIO SERIES 86:
(also Leader)
I got Brawn, Ratchet, and Snarl this year but have yet to open any of them.
STUDIO SERIES:
Deluxe: Mirage. Purely by default because apart from looking quite nice if you catch him at the right angle in robot mode and you're in a good mood he's absolutely terrible and is my one and only purchase from this line.
Masterpiece: Dia-burnout. MP Skids is already amazing, but these colours take it to another level, it's gorgeous. I would always choose Skids if it came down to it, but that's for historical reasons.
Masterpiece MPG Yukikaze. Annoyingly, though I bought all 5 releases this year, the first two are from 2022 and the latter two are awaiting shipping from Zenmarket, so I have to give it to what is certainly the weakest of the bunch.
GENERAL:
Worst Toy: SS Mirage.
The Buyers Regret Award For The Worst Toy You Bought: SS Mirage.
Best Toy: MP Dia-burnout.
The Pinwig "If I Could Only Keep Five Toys From This Year They'd Be" award
I'm taking this to be five toys released in 2023, and I'll keep it to ones I actually have in hand.
1. MP Dia-burnout 2. Toxitron Grimlock 3. Toxitron Sideswipe 4. MPG Yukikaze 5. Selects Magnificus
Best Older Toy You Bought:
In the year I picked up BW Optimus Primal for the first time, RID Scourge (my first hands-on experience of that mould as well), reacquired most of the Superlink toys I foolishly sold (Landmine being the stand-out), and completed all of Fuzors this is a tough one to call!
Primal takes it, I think. So many features, so much fun, a nice proper chunk of plastic.
2024 Toy You're Most Looking Forward To:
MPG Kaen.

I've bought so few this year and quite a few were 2022 releases in sales, so I'm going to be my usual contrary self and do smaller categories. This is based solely on toys I've bought.
NEW Figures
Best Original Mould 1. HISS Tank Megatron 2. Armada Megatron 3. SS86 Snarl 4. Origins Jazz 5. Shrapnel (Technically Menasor should be top here because I didn't complete him until this year).
Best Exclusive 1. Troop Builder set 2. Velocitron Scourge 3. Galaxy Shuttle 4. Hero is Born set 5. Origins Jazz
Best Remould 1. G2 Cybertronian Troop Builder 2. Alpha Trion (Hero set) 3. Axelgrease 4. Buzzworthy Towline 5. Autotrooper
Most Effective Repaint 1. Toxitron 2. Velocitron Scourge 3. Galaxy Shuttle 4. G2 Mirage 5. G2 Sideswipe
Most Desired Figures Still on the Wants List 1. Armada Prime 2. SS86 Ultra Magnus 3. Nova Prime 4. SG Grimlock (this has to be the rarest recent release, only ever available on pre-order from Pulse) 5. Bombshell
If I Could Only Keep Five Toys From This Year They'd Be: 1. Menasor 2. HISS Tank Megatron 3. AWE Bumblebee 4. Armada Megatron 5. Velocitron Scourge (Armada Op and Magnus would be in this list if I had them)
Biggest Disappointment 1. SS Gamer Bumblebee (robot looks great but the transformation is an uncompletable nightmare) 2. Skullgrin (boring) 3. AWE Striker Bumblebee (love it, but it's a wobbly mess in robot mode)
Best Value for Money Troop Builder set - a steal even at RRP
Best 3P Toy Only bought three this year on the path to completing the early G1 masterpieces 1. FT Variator (Gears) 2. FT Parkour (Cliffjumper) 3. FT Warthog (Powerglide)
Best Other Toy 1. MOTU Origins Battlefield Warriors Pack 2. Star Wars Retro 3.75 inch New Hope Six Pack 3. MOTU Skeletor & Screeech 4. Black Series R2D2 5. Sixth Doctor and TARDIS set
Most looking forward to in 2023 Thundertank Soundwave (yes I know it's out but I don't have it yet)

I did think we needed a category for the Hub figure of the year, in the tradition of Gnaw and the like. That would have to be Hauler. He's caused so much amusement.

Ah yes, but the amusement Hauler caused was very much this year even if the toy came out last year. I get the reasons for the poll rules but I think Phil is pretty much the only Hubber who buys toys on release now. Trying to do a best of 23 is very confusing when half my 23 toys are 22 releases.
However, Dead Prowl has caused as much fun as Hauler for sure.

I found doing that list quite hard because I've bought so few. My total for the year was 50 exactly, but only five of those I paid full price for.
Toxitron I'm chuffed with. The leaders were about £32 and the deluxes £15, and most of those I conned people into giving me as Christmas presents. I think the Toxitron line in total cost me £20 for Cloudcover.
It is a gamble though. Most things seem to hang around now, but occasionally one escapes. Shattered Glass Grimlock annoys me, that sold out before release and never reappeared. I had every SG release up til then.

I did try to find a resource with a proper breakdown with what was released in 2023, and so far I haven't had one. You'd think that would be the sort of thing that would be easy to do for a wiki, but the only thing I could find there lists Hasbro releases in 2023 as "tba" (so presumably "to be arranged"?), and as TFuinfo gave up nearly a decade ago that isn't terribly useful either... Leaving me with no real way of knowing what came out this year, beyond the few things I have seen and the even fewer I've bought.
As UN Spacy Embassy staff, and former member of staff charged with Benerit Group consular affairs I'm probably not eligible to vote anyway.

There is that, then there's also fine details to decide - Legacy Evolution is the 2023 Generations line, but the first wave was out in 2022, so Phil would count those as 2022 toys, but I'd say they are the 2023 line.

Only choosing from what I have Legacy:
Core: My only choices are Bombburst and Thundercracker. So Bombburst.
Deluxe: I have almost all the deluxes. Except Strongarm who looked terrible. But AniProwl beats them all hands down.
Voyager: Skipped Bludgeon. Of the rest, it's a toss between LioConvoy and Metalhawk. But BW always beats japanese G1 for me. So LioConvoy.
Leader: So much harder. There's no way the highly flawed and TFP based Skyquake mold will qualify. So it's down to TMII Megatron and Armada Megatron. The best TF character of all time verses some other Megatron... Who actually has the (slightly) superior toy.
Larger Toy: Armada Optimus
Legacy Exclusive:
Comics Origins Nova Prime
Toxitron
Deluxe: Sideswipe I guess.
Voyager: Why bother listing? There's only one release.
Leader: Grimlock. Love Toxitron, and the reprolabels fix even more, but Grimlock is so weird.
Generations Select: Antagony
Shattered Glass Meh
Buzzworthy Bumblebee: Troopbuilder set, despite it having the alicon, the laziest mold ever made.
Legacy Exclusive Deluxe Didn't we have this category already?
SS Exclusive Voyager:
SS86 Deluxe:
Multipack:
STUDIO SERIES 86: Pass
STUDIO SERIES Gamer Edition: Don't have any
STUDIO SERIES:
Core: RotB Arcee. Not a lot to choose from.
Deluxe: RotB Bumblebee or G1 Brawn. Almost all of it is gamer shlock.
Voyager: Ratchet, then Rhinox
Leader: Optimus Primal
Larger: Only Ultra Magnus qualifies
Rise of the Beasts
Battlemaster: Don't have any
Weaponiser: Scorponok is the only one I have
Battlechanger: Don't have any
Beast Combiner: Don't have any
Smash Changer: Don't have any
2 in 1 Mask: Don't have any
Beast Mode: ? Deluxe: Airazor
Voyager: Optimus Prime
Earthspark
Tacticons Don't have any
1 Step Flipchangers Don't have any
Warriors Only have Thrash and Jawbreaker, and opened neither
Deluxe Nightshade
Spin Changers Don't have any
Transformers Crossover:
Transformers Reissue:
Masterpiece: Don't have any
Masterpiece MPG
Movie Masterpiece: Don't have any
GENERAL:
Worst Toy: Any version of the Scraphook mold. The Buyers Regret Award For The Worst Toy You Bought: Earthspark Deluxe Shockwave
Best Toy: Pass
The Pinwig "If I Could Only Keep Five Toys From This Year They'd Be" award Pass
Best Older Toy You Bought: Pass
2024 Toy You're Most Looking Forward To: Silverbolt
