That looks brilliant. I’m quietly hoping they’ve mistransformed Magnus’ shoulder missiles, but otherwise what a cracking mould. Is he still voyager class? He only looks a biit taller than Optimus there. Optimus is repainted into Ultra Magnus, makes me happy! Op's a Voyager but the Magnus is a leader. However it looks like there *might* be an Op repaint inside that Magnus with a break apart trailer to form the armour.

And his thighs are identical to Optimus' thighs. I can zoom in real close with my phone, but since photobucket went bust, I currently have no way to get screengrabs online.

With these screen grabs, I was wrong about UM's upper thighs being the same as Optimus'. I'm positive it's a voyager in super armor, but I'm no longer sure it's a straight Optimus repaint. Also, his missle launchers are in this orientation to allow his shoulders to swing out. If you swapped them, they would sit lower like the "correct" orientation, but they would restrict his arm movement.

I'm pretty sure the cab is an independent robot, and is a heavy retool of Optimus. Makes me a bit sad that it's not a straight op repaint. On the other hand, random True RiD homage. I am conflicted.

Quick catch-up scan through the last two pages makes me think the general gimmick for this line is power-ups, so it might be that the leader toys are now Voyagers with armour as opposed to the deluxes with super size robot shells that we had with PotP. I don't think the off screen recordings of that commercial is doing the toys any favours; they're not wowing me. The Magnus doesn't look half as good as the last one. The 'battle damage' from the renders also isn't as pronounced on those ones. Sideswipe's legs are white. Unless it's the lighting of course.

Twitter: https://twitter.com/toygrind/status/1020109945969299456Love that Magnus. Cab is very Car Robots, hope people aren't having flashbacks... And I *will* celebrate the Magnus, because despite my well-document hatred for Car Robots/RiD, I'm just bloody glad that they're doing something slightly different. And he's actually a smaller truck robot with armour again! This is actually good, because this version of his gimmick has not been done to death. So at least this is vaguely different to what has come before. Now I just hope that he somehow has space in his cab for the Minimus Ambus figure... Late to the party, but that Magnus is fantastic. I was sold alone on the fact we were getting a white Prime with armour as something different to the (excellent) Combiner Wars version, but to then see he sneakily transforms into God Magnus’ alt mode? Genius!

With the recent push Thunderclash has had thanks to IDW, I'd hope Hasbro might seize on this and there's at least a chance of an SDCC exclusive. I know I'd be sorely tempted to nab one.

Actually, I think a relatively mild retool could get RiD Ultra Magnus out of Siege Magnus. New chest, new head, new shoulders, add the wings if possible. Ultra Magnus looks a bit smaller than previous Leaders?

(Is Magnus a "His Own Thread" toy?) I don't think so. It's just ATM he's about the only one worth discussing. The rest are pretty straight forward. I think the UM specific conversations will die off a bit once more knowledge of other toys is at hand. Ultra Magnus looks a bit smaller than previous Leaders? Well, he's a retool of a voyager toy with snap on armor. He's not smaller as much as he's shorter.

Geeze that is obnoxiously overdetailed. It's like someone obsessively could not stand to see a "blank" spot.

The jury is still out on if there's any of Prime reused in Magnus. I'm tending to NO. They're similar, certainly, but .... I can see the arguments both ways....

It looked like a new mould to me from what we saw before. It made me wonder if this new Magnus will get retooled into an RiD Prime homage.

They're similar, certainly, but .... I can see the arguments both ways.... You may be right. Either way, I still get my white optimus cab-bot! I do kinda wish his legs were powder blue, like Classics. (Is Magnus a "His Own Thread" toy?) I don't think so. It's just ATM he's about the only one worth discussing. The rest are pretty straight forward. I think the UM specific conversations will die off a bit once more knowledge of other toys is at hand. You know though, Ultra Magnus in general is a subject that comes up all the time. While mo one UM toy gets enough conversation to warrent it's own thread, the lot of them together kinda do. Because more than other characters, every UM always gets compared to his past releases. So while Siege Magnus in the long run may not justify his own thread, perhaps repurpose the dead CW UM thread into a generalist Ultra Magnus thread?

This line is going to piss me off. The battle damage and dirt is just enough to put me off some of them and the over detailing really is putting me off even more. Little hope for Magnus unless a future RID Magnus remould isn't quite so OTT. Ditto Chromia or which ever one it is. This might sound odd... but not the hyper-detailing but not the battle damage/dirt? And where has the extracting Magnus into his own thread come from?

I'm putting my house on Jetfire and Megatron being movie figures. Certainly if there are only three leaders in this line, it makes no sense to have Megatron as a Voyager and a Leader, but conversely the Magnus is an obvious candidate to be remoulded into Prime. I'd rather have a new Jetfire, but I agree, that's a clear movie favourite character likely to feature in the Studio Series line at some point. The Optimus leader on that list is definitely Siege too. I'm curious to know what homage they have planned with cab robot and trailer, because we have had two decent cab-combining-with-trailer leader Optimus Primes already.

Armada or GTFU

Armada seems more likely than RiD because of the mould they'd be starting with. RiD would be nice to go with the Magnus but the appeal is dampened without them being able to form Omega.
Nearly bought the Armada Leader Megatron at the weekend at £25. I'll regret not doing that if it is Armada!

You're probably right. Cybertron is very close to the look of the Magnus. It just isn't as appealing as the other options.

And the mini-con/micromaster thing too.
Cybertron Prime is the better Prime though.
